Rock of Freedom: The Story of the Plymouth Colony (Uncovering the Seventeenth Century) Kindle Edition
Perfect for readers of Allan W. Eckert, Paul C.R. Monk and fans of the television series Jamestown.
They have escaped persecution, now they must survive in the New World…
9th November, 1620, aboard the Mayflower.
William Bradford and over one hundred other men and women stand on the deck of the ship that for the last ten weeks has sailed across the breadth of the Atlantic.
On the horizon they can see land … it is America.
They have come to this untamed place with few supplies, inadequate tools, and little experience in wilderness living, but what they do have is an unbreakable desire to build a new life for themselves and their families and faith that whatever may happen is part of God’s divine plan.
But how will they survive their first few months in this strange world as a brutal winter begins to envelop them?
And will the harmony of the Pilgrims, embodied by their newly signed Mayflower Compact, survive as relationships fracture and the stresses and strains of hunger, disease and death begin to take their toll?
Rock of Freedom: The Story of the Plymouth Colony is a thoroughly-researched fictionalized account of the Mayflower voyage and the settling of the Pilgrims in New England. It is a dramatic work of historical fiction that brings the lives of the men and women who made this journey to life.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2021I had to reject three other books, which were much too wordy for nothing, before I found this gem of a tribute to the Pilgrims. For a concise look at their separation from the Church of England and subsequent founding of Plymouth, it was a wonderful Thanksgiving read. Get a copy today!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2020The Mayflower is not only an important part of our history it goes much deeper. As a descendant of three Mayflower passages we have a great interest in the story. Only a handful of pilgrims were mentioned. By 1623 many of the first to arrive had passes but no mention of the Tillies little of the Hollands and more that were active and survived were left out.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2021Timely to hear of our founding fathers’ hardships, struggles & sacrifices to form our admirable country....Everyone who is fighting each other for ridiculous reasons needs to read this book and remember how blessed we are to live in America. Wonderful storytelling.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2020ROCK OF FREEDOM by NOEL B. GERSON is the story of the founding of Plymouth at Cape Cod by the Pilgrims who escaped England and King James' intolerable and intolerant religious laws, and went to build a colony in the New World where the government of church and state would be separate.
It is a story about courage, discipline and the importance of good leadership.
As the settlers work incredibly hard to stave off starvation, we see the miracles the Lord brings about on their behalf, which lead to many of the unbelievers among them turning their lives over to God.
This book spoke to me especially as I am a descendant of the Huguenots who came to South Africa, many of them via Holland, from France where they also suffered religious persecution.
The book is well written, well researched and easy to read, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Sapere Books. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
