4.0 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

He’s a battle-hardened soldier. She loves him, but will he ever be able to claim her for his own?

The chevaliers are coming home to Longueville after another battle, and Rohesia can’t wait to see her older brothers again.

What she isn’t expecting are the friends they bring with them, including the handsome, worldly-wise Richard Fitz Gilbert. When her disguise as a boy is uncovered, she expects Richard to be angry, but he is amused by her ingenuity. She falls in love with the skilled warrior, living for a word or a look from him.

But Richard has other matters on his mind, and his friends’ younger sister is still just a child in his eyes. The battle-hardened soldier is forced to leave Longueville to protect the lands of its ruler, and it is some time before he returns.

When he does, he discovers that Rohesia has matured into a beautiful young woman. But will he ever be able to make an offer for her hand? Or is he destined to go on living the life of a soldier, fighting one battle after another, never able to settle down?

    Three and a half stars.

I enjoyed this book for the historical information and strong characters. I understand that the plot needed to follow the path it did, but found it a bit drawn out for my taste.

It is fun to follow the family members of the House of Clare through history.

I look forward to reading the next in the series.

This story is about Rohesia, it starts with her as a young girl whose friends with a young squire named Thomas. Thomas will soon have to compete in a tournament but Thomas isn’t a fighter. Rohesia helps Thomas by training with him in secret, but Thomas wants to be a priest. At the last minute, Rohesia convinces Thomas to allow her to compete in his place. Reluctantly, Thomas agrees. Rohesia, as Thomas, is fighting Richard, the Chevalier and holding her own. Richard is impressed with the young squire. Then Rohesia is injured in the arm. Richard attends to the wound and now Thomas must have a matching bandage. At the hall in the evening Rohesia, as the oldest daughter of Gautier, a senior Chevalier and owner of the hall, was at the feast and Richard sat next to her along with her brothers. At one point, Rohesia’s sleeve goes up her APRN revealing her bandage. She hoped Richard hadn’t seen it but he did. Later Richard lectures her about the danger she was in masquerading as a squire and makes her promise never to do that again. So starts the romance between Rohesia and Richard, but Richard has a duty to William, the Duc to help him secure the lands before Richard will be free to settle down.

Kaitlynn Clarkson’s “Rohesia” Lady Of Longueville | Clean Medieval Romance Novella (House Of Clare Book 2)

Another battle ends and Rohesia is glad to see her brother come home again. She wasn’t expecting his best friend and comrade, the handsome Richard Fitz Gilbert, a man she’d loved since she was a young girl. Richard can’t believe the girl had grown into womanhood so beautifully. But do they stand a chance in their turbulent times?

The characters are wonderfully written, courageous, kind and noble. The story was beautifully written. It’s a sweet love story of two people who face the times they live in with utmost courage and character. Serving at the pleasure of his king Richard and Rohesia must get permission to marry. The story had a realistic feeling to it, a wonderful bond between the main characters and trials to go through. I enjoyed it immensely and have to mention how much I loved the cover, it’s lovely.

Thank you so much Ms. Clarkson for this sweet story of love.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Rohesia is a very relatable girl when we first meet her. She soon falls in love with a Knight of the relm. The woman of this time married young at 14. Because the Knight serves at the pleasure of his king Rohesia has to wait for him to be able to marry. Can she wait? Will her father let her wait? Read this wonderful story and find out.

This was very interesting story and I liked how it was written a great deal. It is a bit different perhaps more realistic then some historical I have read. The main characters had to wait such a long time before they could start a life together so many challenges. Even at the end all the struggles were perhaps not done. It is very well written and I enjoyed it very much. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
