Rules to Break (Davey's Rules Book 2) Kindle Edition
Bryan Miller is satisfied with his uncomplicated life. He’s a discipline Daddy who’s not in the market for any kind of permanent relationship. And why should he be? Like the waves he surfs in the small beach town he calls home, there’s always another body available to warm his bed when he tires of the current flavor of the week.
Preston Wallace is a snotty rich brat with enough attitude to keep all the Daddies from giving him a chance. He gets it… people are jealous of him for being rich, hot, and fit. It would take a strong Daddy to take him in hand.
A casual conversation on the night of Preston’s twenty-fifth birthday ties these two stubborn men together in a bet right out of the musical My Fair Lady. Can Daddy Bryan turn the obnoxious brat into a dateable boy within a ninety-day timeframe?
Strap in for a roller-coaster of emotions as Bryan takes firm control of a brat who might just need to know someone cares enough to try.
This is the second book in Davey's Rules; a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Possible trigger for the death a background character.

About the author

I’m a happily married mom whose kids are grown! I've always written stories, but only found the courage to publish in my 40s. This midlife career change has been amazing and proves it's never too late to follow your dreams. I plan to keep writing for as long as my readers want my books. I love sharing the stories of the different people who live in my imagination. My books are filled with humor, a few tears, and the underlying message to never give up and keep hoping, even in the darkest of times, because life can change on a dime when you least expect it. This theme comes from a lifetime of lessons learned on my own hard journey through the pains of poverty, the loss of more loved ones than I’d care to count, and the struggles of living through chronic illnesses. Life can be hard, but it can also be good! Through it all I’ve found that love, laughter, and family can make all the difference, and that’s what I try to bring to every tale I tell.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2022I'm an absolute sucker for two things: Daddy/boy stories and musicals! This book combined the best of the two and came out with a wonderful story about a bratty boy who really must needs someone to believe in him, and a hot, surfer Daddy who's commitment shy but falls anyway. Add in a wager in the vein of "My Fair Lady" and I couldn't help but be completely entranced by this book. I love how characters from previous books are interwoven and how new characters are introduced with just enough to tempt you. There is a bit of sadness in this book but if does end on a HEA and teases of things to come. I'd highly recommend reading the books in order to best get the full picture. A solid win!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2021I enjoyed this tale of a bet, a brat, and a commitment phobia involving hot Daddy Bryan and entitled, pretty boy Preston. Even though this is a lighthearted, almost no angst tale, there’s was a surprising amount of depth in the storytelling. I had a few teary-eyed moments, who knew! I especially liked the quirky, bitchy, and sometimes funny banter between the MCs. This was an interesting, a bit emotional, and fun read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2019Preston is looking for the love his parents never showered on him. But he's going about his journey the wrong way. He shows the world around him an intense bratty side but that's not the real him. Bryan is a structured daddy; obey his rules and your satisfaction is guaranteed. Preston has sooo much to learn about being an adult and Bryan is the man for this job. Preston's naivete about real life is really quite cute.
In Preston Bryan sees a challenge. A bet is made; both believe their side will win but can there be 2 winners--not one. In the end even a death assists Preston in his maturing. References to "My Fair Lady" by Davey are hilarious and so apropos. Read on and find out. I got an ARC of this story through the LesCourt ARC Team.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2019This book will make you laugh until you cry. And then it will make you cry. It will pull you into the growth that both Preston and Bryan do. It will just pull you in, and you won't want to leave until the story is done.
In the first book, Preston was a side character you wanted and did dislike from the first time he opened his mouth. This story tells you why. And you want to reach in and wrap him in hugs.
This book, read it. Just read it! It is one of the best I've read this year.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2019This is an awesome book. You may cry multiple times. (Don't worry, there's a happily ever after.)
Two men so afraid to be vulnerable.
One acts like a brat to push everyone away. Preston figures if he rejects everyone first, they can't reject him.
One won't cuddle his partners, share his bed, or create intimacy in his relationships. If he doesn't make promises, Bryan won't end up with a string of failed relationships like his mother.
This is such a ride. H/c, anger, and so much loneliness. A boy who has no idea how to function without servants. I highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2019I really didn’t want to read this book when I realized the boy’s character was going to be Preston. We were introduced to him in Book 1 of this series and he was SO bratty, obnoxious and just down right nasty that I didn’t think he was redeemable. But then Bryan takes him on as a challenge and we start learning about Preston’s life. As in all life’s lessons, never assume you know a person until you discover all the facts about the person. Preston had some mighty big chips on his shoulders that caused him to lash out like he did. The repeating theme in this series is the snarky, hilarious dialogue, of the boys. This author belongs on a comedy stage. I had tears in my eyes and belly cramps from laughing at times. I look forward to the next light hearted romp with this cast of characters.

I didn’t particularly connect with Bryan’s character so it skewed my understanding and enjoyment of the book. That said, the other characters in the book were solid and some were unbearably delightful. Victor and Branson were great. Preston, while mega bratty, came by his faults honestly as he was spoilt his whole life. Bryan’s discipline did him good, I just didn’t appreciate Bryan’s approach.
I found the story to be more Domestic Discipline D/s than Daddy/boy.
Voluntary ARC review.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2019Another great addition to the series. Preston is known for being a mean brat and Daddy Bryan makes a bet he can change him...queue in My Fair Lady. But Daddy Bryan realizes there's a reason for Preston's mean behavior and slowly starts uncovering his golden heart. Their journey is full of love, laughter, hurt, and sexiness. A Daddy who learns to love a bratty, sassy boy. A Boy who realizes he can be his true self and be loved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wieder sehr gut

5.0 out of 5 stars Daddykink at Its Best
Daddykink and Susan Hawke are both autobuys, so when Susan Hawke writes Daddykink I’m over the moon excited! Especially when it is the second book in a series that has already proven to be my absolute favourite thing Hawke has ever written. Rules to Break is the second book in Hawke’s “Davey’s Rules” series, a set of books that each features a different type of Daddy-boy dynamic all centered around the private kink club Daddy’s Lap. In each book the bartender Davey goes on a date with a various Daddy before helping set them up with their forever-boy. I will be the first to admit I was nervous about this book. I don’t love brats, and having met both the characters in the previous book I didn’t really like either of them! This was VERY quickly changed upon seeing a more private side of their characters, especially Preston, who presents himself to the world as a snotty, spoiled, bratty mess of a boy (and to be honest… he kind of is). Tough Daddy Bryan makes a bet (with Preston’s full compliance) that given 3 months he can change him into the perfect boy (a la Eliza Doolittle). What follows is an emotional and absolutely page-burning story. Preston is more than he seems, and Bryan struggles not to fall head over heels despite being absolutely against relationships. With more sass than you can shake a stick at, a few unexpected tears, and a VERY creative use of cinnamon toothpaste, Rules to Break is a fantastic second book in a wonderful series. I can’t wait for the next Daddy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it.
I loved the challenge this book presented. Preston was a rich, entitled brat. He was lonely and feared rejection so pushed everyone away. Daddy Bryan issued him a bet that he could reinvent him in ninety days. Somewhere along the way , feelings became involved. Loving this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great series
This book is is a great love story about two people who don’t think they need a relationship who come together because of a bet. Susan, while writing a great romance also brings up a number of universal truths about the way we connect (or don’t)
to the people around us.
