SIREN: Siren, #1 Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 636 ratings

I’m not a good person. In fact, I’m a real bitch. If the opportunity arises, I will take your husband, give him the best sex he’s ever had, and laugh behind your back once I’m done with him. I do not put on airs and graces. I just take what I want whenever I want it.

I am the abused who has become the abuser. I live for power because all power had been stripped from me for years. Now that I have it back, I feed off of it like it’s my primary sustenance, and I don’t care who I hurt in the process.

Every woman hates me, but do you know what? I don’t give a shit.

You won’t like me. I’m not here to be liked. You want to know my story? I won’t stop you from observing. Just know that once I’m done with you, no shower—no matter how scalding—will ever get me out from under your skin.

Warning: If you’re looking for pink, fluffy clouds, rainbows, and HEA’s, then this book is not for you. These pages contain flashback scenes of child abuse in all forms (physical, sexual, and emotional) as well as BDSM and other taboo themes.

Love does not live in this book. Only dark, twisted, and sick obsessions thrive here.

This book is a tough read. It's sick, it's raw, and deliciously twisted. Scarlet isn't always easy to like, heck she doesn't like herself, and sometimes she's downright despicable, but man if this book didn't have me rooting for her! Let's back up. Scarlet was abused as a child. To say Scarlet has daddy issues is the understatement of the century. Her dad r*pes her starting at 14 years old. She was the unwanted child in a way, and she pays for it. Her sister and mother don't believe her. They all have their reasons, but that doesn't change it's messed up. Only she gets to see the evil inside of him. He ruins her.

In her early 20s she ends up, well like the blurb says. She'll take what she wants when she wants it. She gets power and she uses it. After all when she was a teen all power was stripped from her, and it twists her. Ultimately though she just wants revenge on those that hurt her, and she WILL GET IT. If you ask me, and probably anyone with a heart, she deserves her revenge. I wanted them to pay for what they did to her. They get no sympathy from me. But it takes her down a dark path, and there is more twisted shit going on than she knows. Some happiness does come through the book, but mostly it's just twisted sick obsessions and pain. And those obsessions can prove deadly.

I don't want to give too much away so sorry if i'm being vague. The book is fast-paced. It had me wanting to read so much faster than I actually can, I didn't want to stop reading, though at times I had to take a breather. It had me thinking hard at times. My emotions went all over the place, from aroused, to rooting for her with a grin on my face (questioning my sanity here), to crying, to shock and feeling like my insides were being squeezed. This book will make you feel dirty but you won't be able to get clean no matter how hard you try.

The writing flowed nicely and the characters were well written. I either loved them or loved to hate them. Scarlet is so much more layered than at first glance (and she has good in her). She may be twisted, but she was made, not born, that way. She's only twisted because she's human, so very human, and has went through so much hell that no one, especially a child, should ever have to go through. I just want to hug and protect her, let her cry and tell her it will all be okay. It won't be okay though, this book has chewed me up and spit me out.

I related to her feelings in ways through tore at my heart. I haven't went through what she has but I resonated with some of her feelings. The shutting off of emotions, or thinking that one has anyway, and she became my baby. You know those characters, they become your children.

This book has complex and well written characters and plot. It has strong messages and will make you think. It'll also shatter your heart.

This book can be hard to read, require tissues, and may shatter your soul, but if you think you can handle it or decide to give it a shot I do highly recommend it, as long as you are in a good head-space and have the tissues close. This book isn't for everyone. I recently finished this (a few hours ago as of writing this) and pieces of the puzzle are still falling into place...and I really wish they weren't.

Love does not live in this book. Only dark, twisted, and sick obsessions thrive here.

    Siren by Jaimie Roberts
    4 stars!!!

“I guess bad company really does corrupt good morals.”

I don’t know whether it is because I have read some really sick books in my time but this was not as dark as I expected (shock, horror), however what Jaimie Roberts did deliver was one page turning read that I couldn’t put down and no matter the heroine’s actions I was rooting for her from the start. Most will probably hate her, but I loved her for so many different reasons. There is nothing like a good “revenge” book and Scarlet was one conniving cow and I loved it.

Scarlet, Scarlet, Scarlet…where do I start with this woman. She was AWESOME! Scarlet came across as one of those legendary actresses on the silver screen, she was a femme fatale in every sense of the word. She was a siren, she called to men and they couldn’t resist her charms, she was a snake charmer and the men in her life were definitely the snakes. Scarlet was drop dead gorgeous and she knew it, she used it and she most definitely abused it. Her body made her a lot of money…illegally of course, but the men she preyed on were cut from a similar cloth and quite frankly got what they deserved.

Scarlet was abused as a child by her father, both physically and mentally and this was the beginning of her demise really, the demise being the sweet and innocent Scarlet. Her childhood had been stunted and stilted by a man who took his own revenge out on someone he should have protected, he abused his position of power, trust and love and made her life a living misery. After years and years of abuse her father had left his mark, these two were inextricably linked, kind of like Stockholm Syndrome where even though she didn’t want to react to his presence years later, her body defied her. It was like her father and reprogrammed her, she was his Frankenstein.

“I have bloomed from muddy waters. I may look beautiful at first glance, but if you see where I’ve come from, you won’t find me quite as alluring.”

Most people will hate Scarlet in the beginning, but as soon as I realised this was a “revenge” book I began to make excuses for her actions because I knew that when all was revealed it would be explained. As Jaimie Roberts leaks out Scarlet’s past in little flashbacks the conundrum that is Scarlet is finally solved. She was evil, she had no scruples, no morals but her father made her this way, he created the monster but would he be able to take the repercussions?

Jaimie Roberts delivers an edge of your seat story where you cannot help but become invested in the car crash that is unfolding in front of you. You know you should hate her, you know you should despise what she does but in the end I saw the frightened, desperate child that just wanted her life back, a sense of normalcy, she wanted her freedom…mentally.

“Looking at him now, one could never imagine a monster lived inside of him. A monster who taught me well.”

This book is seriously hot, even though you know you should be cringing, it should feel wrong, yet it works. Scarlet’s mother and sister…I wanted to strangle, Scarlet’s boss…I never trusted…Scarlet’s father I wanted to slowly castrate…the only normal character in this book was Stuart. Heed the authors warning… “If you’re looking for pink, fluffy clouds, rainbows, and HEA’s, then this book is not for you. These pages contain flashback scenes of child abuse in all forms (physical, sexual, and emotional) as well as BDSM and other taboo themes. Love does not live in this book. Well dam@! WTF did I just read?? My heart's been racing since I started this thing. I mean, the ENTIRE book consists of some seriously screwed up people. It's packed full of twists, turns, flippin OMG surprises and secrets that keep you guessing until the very last page. Then bam! This is one of those books that readers might think they want a spoiler, but nope! Just No! You need to go in blind in order to completely experience the words JR has given us and watch open mouthed as you turn the page and everything unfolds.

Scarlet is our messed up heroine who is on one major quest for revenge. She's the kind of character you find yourself hating as much as you struggle liking. In my eyes, there are three different men who share the hero spotlight - Scarlet's father Richard, her business partner Reid, and a guy from high school named Stuart. One of these men I absolutely loathed; one I adored; and the other I wasn't sure how I felt about until I read that last paragraph. Holy sh@t! I had to reread that last page three times to make sure it said what I thought it said. The other characters in the story play their roles perfectly and help provide the setting for a front row seat in this crazy but brilliant book.

Kick back and be ready to experience a number of different emotions while reading this story. The description provides a warning and you'll see why through some of Scarlet's flashbacks to her childhood. Don't go in thinking you'll guess the ending because there is NO WAY you'll figure it out. Siren is the perfect book for those wanting a darker, twisted storyline.

Scarlet is damaged beyond repair, from her past...

Men fall at her feet to be with her, but none of them matter. She will use them and kick them out. All that matters in her mind, is her revenge. No one can stop her or stand in her way. She will make them all pay, for what they have done...

I think this is one of the darkest books, that I have ever read!!
Jaimie Roberts has totally blown my mind. So much so, that it took me a while to put all my thoughts together. So dark, twisted, crazy and wrong, but so good at the same time . It was one hell of ride, my emotions were all over the place. I cried, I shouted and was so shocked..

I cannot hate on this book, since the only reason I feel like I'd hate it would be the lack of depth or signs of morality, and the writer did everything to warn me of this. However, I was looking for depth/signs of morality anyway. The book started with Scarlet being truly awful. I wanted to put the book away without finishing it, but then we DID get signs of morality. I kept going. The book does let you warm up to Scarlet a little. She remained pretty awful nonetheless, but well, we were warned. I did not like the steamy scenes much, simply because they were too sudden and too frequent. I was missing the build-up. However, I loved the ending a lot, and that made this book so much better.
I say give it a chance, and IF you buy this, finish it!

Wow, what did I just read? This book is dark, twisted, seriously disturbing, sick but completely fascinating. This story had a hard grip on me, I couldn't put it down. The characters were interesting and plot was full of suspense. I love dark twisted books, the darker the better and this book was exactly what I hoped it would be. The climax was totally unexpected and left me mind boggled.

This book contains some serious triggers like childhood sexual abuse and rape so please don't read it if it bothers you. Scarlet was raped by her own father when she was only 14. She lived with constant abuse for years. It made her the women she is today. Now she is using her body to her advantage and using sex as a weapon. She is sick and perverted person who wants to take revenge against all the people who have done her wrong.

The whole story flows beautifully between present and past. It kept me on edge the whole time. This was my first time reading a book by Jaimie Roberts but now I will definitely be reading more from her. Absolutely amazing!! A full 5 stars.
