About the author

J.R. Handley is a pseudonym for a family writing team. He is a veteran infantry sergeant with the 101st Airborne Division and the 28th Infantry Division. His family is the kind of crazy that interprets his insanity into cogent English. He writes the sci-fi while they proofread it. The sergeant is a two-time combat veteran of the late unpleasantness in Mesopotamia where he was wounded, likely doing something stupid. He started writing military science fiction as part of a therapy program suggested by his doctor, and hopes to entertain you while he attempts to excise his demons through these creative endeavors. In addition to being just another dysfunctional veteran, he is a stay-at-home parent, avid reader and all-around nerd. Luckily for him, his family joins him in his fandom nerdalitry.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2020This is the fifth book of J.R. Handley’s that I’ve eagerly read, and none of them have ever disappointed! Each book is a fantastic read, as is this book about the planetary war against “the” enemy, Spartika and her troops, and what she means as an enemy, seen through the eyes of the Human Marines and their allies who have to go up against her well prepared defenses. Every character is well fleshed out, and you can read what they are thinking every step of the way, through the battles and the breaks. Determined planning can change at a moments notice, and often does. You have GOT to read this series of books!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2017A thrilling ride, but it gets four stars because I didn't want it to end. I can't wait to see what this author has in store for us next.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2021Lots of battles and ied (improvised explosive device) than you can shake a stick at. Good story with lots of action.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2020Not much of a spoiler alert type guy. Book was great bu too slow in the build up and the ending. I could have guessed the ending half way through
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2017JR has done it again and better as usual. Sad that it had to be Marines against Marines, but some survived the poison and came out better than they went in. This was a great series and I look forward to reading more of his stories in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2018It can't be over yet? We need more Lance and more of the legion! This has been an excellent addition to the main Human Legion storyline.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2018Awesome read and a great continuation to the series
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2019Great series. Enjoyed the small jokes from the author like naming a character atropia and "shut up Carl". Look forward to more of his works

5.0 out of 5 stars Fiñished
I love a series that has believable heroes and villains rip roaring action from beginning to end and no blank spots in between the pathos of having to kill their own brethren that had been lead astray by Spartika, so the series end and it's off to the Void for the next installment of the sleeping Legions
