Slightly Spooky Stories I: A collection of 25 short stories Kindle Edition
Ghosts, sixth sense and things not of this world aren't always scary, though they can be. Some help or warn, frighten or comfort those who perceive them. Others are here for their own purposes, waiting for a chance to move on. We might see, hear or feel them, perhaps they'll only reach us through our subconscious.
Are ghosts memories and echoes of the past, contacts from another time and place, or just figments of our imagination? Whether you believe in them or not, ghosts, spirits and mysterious spooking happenings all provide stories. This collection contains 25 of them.

About the author

Patsy Collins spends her time making things up and writing them down from her home in Lee-on-the-Solent or whilst traveling in a campervan. She shares both with her photographer husband, and sometimes acts as his assistant. When away she also enjoys scrambling round ruined castles, visiting friends and eating cake. At home she gardens, bakes (and then eats) cakes. She's the author of over 30 books.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2022I ran across this author by accident and am glad I did. I love reading short stories, especially ones with ghosts and other spookiness, and this author has written some really fun ones. I plan on reading more of her work.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2017Reading a Patsy Collins story collection is like opening a big box of chocolates. You tell yourself you'll just have one, but that was so tasty you want another, and the next thing you know you've consumed over half of it and where did the time go?

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat little tales
I thoroughly enjoyed these short stories, all very individual with effective endings. A marvellous read for the darkening nights.
The tales are just long enough to read a few of them before sleep, but as stated in the title 'slightly spooky' which they are, and spooky enough to make you want to turn, yet, another page.
As always there will be favourites, these are two of mine which have stayed in my mind -
Blood-red Christmas Baubles. I'm sure many of us have the feeling sometimes a trinket or another item has a life of its own, it has some hold of what happens in your life - just coincidence? Life is sometimes stranger than fiction, and the ending of this tale, well, not an ending really, and leaves the reader wondering what will happen.
Spirit of the Chateau - I found this quite melancholy, and for some reason connected with it, made me wonder if I'm still looking for something I still haven't found in life or ... Great tale with a lovely end.
I've read many of this authors books, this, I think is one of the best. Looking forward to the next collection of 'slightly spooky stories'

5.0 out of 5 stars Slightly Spooky Stories - What it says on the tin.
Twenty-five lovely short stories, some quite long for their genre, and others shorter, all with a very light ghostly theme. In fact, in some of the stories, the spooky bit is very light indeed, such as hypnosis treatment ('Brainwashing Barbara'), whereas in others ghosts and the dead are the main characters ('Can't Take It With You'). My favourite was 'Working in the Bookshop', which featured a young lad looking for first job and finding one in very old fashioned bookshop. At every point, he is prompted by a mysterious old lady, and not just him but everyone else around him
Patsy writes from the first person and the third and all her stories include a lot of dialogue, which brings them alive. This is Patsy doing what she does best, getting inside the characters of ordinary people and crafting their problems into a tight story. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Enjoyed
If you find yourself reaching for the bedside light after settling in to bed don’t be surprised! Not that your dressing gown will dance the tarantella in the midnight moonlight. You’ll be wondering if the next story can be as good as the last one you read, it certainly will be too. There is good variety between the stories, each turning and twisting for a very satisfying read. Having a “1” in the title suggests there maybe more to come. I wait in eager anticipation.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read
The ‘Slightly’ in the title is a big clue. You’re unlikely to suffer night terrors after reading this book but the stories here all make you wonder. Are thought transference, prescience and clairvoyance possible? What’s the nature of luck or coincidence? Can you have a sixth sense? Is there, in fact, a persistence of the soul or the personality after death?
I found these stories a light, easy read, enjoyable and often amusing. They’re suitably supernatural without being horrific. A good read.
