Safe and Sound (Twist of Fate, Book 2) Kindle Edition
I’ve been drowning for a long time. I never thought I’d find someone who knows what that’s like…
Self-proclaimed playboy, Aiden Vale, has it all – good looks, successful career, plenty of cash in the bank and an endless supply of men who know the score… that one night is just that. So the last thing he wants, or needs, is to forge a connection that might mean revealing more of himself than he’s ready to.
But when fate intervenes, putting Aiden in the path of someone who threatens to knock down his carefully constructed walls, he’s quick to realize the young man he’s become infatuated with is hiding a painful secret.
I finally have a shot at freedom. I’ll never let anyone take that from me ever again…
Ash Valentine is just looking for a way out, and the last thing he wants or needs is another man controlling every aspect of his life. Desperate for the cash that will help him flee his abusive boyfriend, Ash accepts what is supposed to be a temporary job at a local coffee shop.
But nothing prepares him for the gorgeous and enigmatic Aiden Vale, and the small acts of kindness the charming coffee shop regular bestows on him or the new friends he begins to make along the way.
Terrified of once again becoming too reliant on someone else to take care of him, Ash refuses Aiden’s repeated offers of help in any form. But when it becomes clear that there’s something more behind Aiden’s need to save him, Ash begins to wonder if he’s found someone who needs saving just as badly.
I know he wants to save me, but what if he’s the one who needs saving…
As their tentative friendship turns into something more, long buried secrets begin to surface. When Aiden’s need to protect Ash clashes with the younger man’s desire for independence, memories of the one he couldn’t save begin to tear at the fragile cords of Aiden’s soul, and he’s forced to face a truth he’s been hiding from for a long time.
Threatened with losing what they’ve only just found, will Aiden and Ash find a way to accept their pasts or will they let the pain drag them below the surface for good?
No cliffhangers and can be read as a stand-alone. *** TRIGGER WARNING - includes scenes of domestic violence. ***

About the authors
Although Sloane Kennedy always dreamed of being a writer as a teenager, she didn't take the plunge until 2015 when she released her first novel. Since then, she has released nearly 30 books including the Amazon best-selling "Pelican Bay" and "Protectors" series. While she initially began writing M/F romance, she found her true passion writing gay romance and nearly all of her most recent releases reached the #1 spot on Amazon's Gay Romance bestseller list and several have made it to Amazon's overall bestseller list. Sloane was born in Germany but grew up in the U.S. and although she currently lives in Wisconsin, the place where she has always felt most at home is Seattle and many of her books take place in the Emerald city. When not writing, a menagerie of 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 horses takes up what little time she has left in the day!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2020This story and ones, I've seem Sloane and Lucy wrote have been amazing to read. It felt like characters were real with real emotions. I just couldn't stop reading or put down books the authors wrote.
It's so rare to find books like these. That I can read story after story, and not drop or skip a book. Their so beautiful and heart wrenching, but they show real emotions and feeling that people go through.
Most of the books I've read in this community have been ones where I can never seem to get interested or hooked on them. Sloane and Lucy reeled me in everytime a book comes out.
It's hard to find many that books that write how real relationships are. I usually follows those rare authors, because they always seem to write the best books that pull me in everytime.
Most authors in this community I've seen made me drop book, either because they fall love in a span weeks, and married in a few months which real relationships like that will never end in a good way.
Sometimes the authors did something that never felt right and wouldn't settle well with me. Or the couple will fight once and make up.
The stories I've read so far by Sloane and Lucy had been beautiful and felt real. There may be heart wrenching parts and emotional parts, but the ending is always beautiful and worth it.
Relationships are hard, every couple will have arguments. You could be afraid of what your feeling. You may be scared what they would think of you. Every couple struggles with communication and sometimes they don't tell how they truly feel, because they could be so scared. Commuincationn Is important, because if you don't communicate you may yourselves farther apart in the process.
The characters in book struggled they felt real, because it's always very hard to tell those close to you what you feel for them and your afraid you could lose them in the process. Ever person is scared it's human nature. If your ever been in a relationship communication it is the most importanttant thing in the a relationship. Tell them how you feel, but don't put the blame or hurt them with words. It may be hard every person is afraid for losing those they love. In the end your relationship may become stronger as you start to understand each other better. If they don't love you for who truly are then that person was never worth it. You deserve better than that find someone that truly loves you who you are and don't let go.
Sorry if I went off topic, but the emotional stories I've read so far made me want to help those people that struggle.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2017Warning: read this book under doctor supervision! Your heart will be stolen. It will be broken. Mended. Broken some more. But ultimately mended and filled to bursting. Further side effects include, but are not limited to, laughing at nerdy banter, uncontrollable goofy grins during heartwarming tender moments, a newfound love of poetry, ugly crying, desperately wanting to hug the hurt out of two very sexy adorable men, a need for a new box of tissues, and possibly counseling to help you deal with the emotional roller-coaster and then subsequent book hangover.
This book...If authors truly do live on the tears and heartbreak of their readers, then I think it's safe to say these two ladies are well fed! This book is definitely on the list of my favorite books ever. I just don't know how I'm going to tell my husband that it's over because my heart now belongs to two fictional gay men! :D I just couldn't help falling in love with Ash and Aiden. They're funny, sweet, sexy, nerdy, with that bit of broken that makes you want to see them healed, happy and loved. And that cover! Holy wow. It's a beautiful cover but once you've read their story it has such an amazing impact.
This book can be read without having read the first, but you should really read that one too, because it's all kinds of awesome itself! and Xander, Bennett and Lucky make some appearances in this one. But again, it's not actually necessary you'll just be missing out on another great read. I think it's obvious, but I absolutely recommend reading Safe and Sound, and if you enjoy it even half as much as I did then you're still going to love it!
Would I re-read? Absolutely! Over and Over. But remember, this isn't a lighthearted fun read. But when I want to feel deeply, when I want to really be in love, when I want a well deserved HEA then I'll be reading Safe and Sound.
Was it worth the money to me? I received a free advanced copy but still paid full price for it as soon as it was out.
Did I fall in love? Oh my poor heart, yes!
Were there moments sweet/sexy/funny/daydream inducing that I still think about? Yes, and I've been waiting anxiously for a week to post this review because everyone needs to read this :D

There a touch to much secrecy, very angsty.
The notion that someone who beats you to a bloody pulp will just let you walk away is just ridiculous. People you find a safe haven with need to know about your abuser for their safety as well as yours.
That said, Aiden’s story is deliciously deep. Aiden & Ash find a safe harbor for each other.
It’s a sweet read with solid narration

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it - heartbreaking and very moving read
Wow! What an amazing read! First of all, please make sure you heed the trigger warnings for this book - there are some very graphic situations and scenes associated with domestic violence in this book, and other scenes associated with depression, bullying and suicide. That said, the book tackled these very difficult and horrific topics in a tasteful and thoughtful manner.
All of the characters in this series are so very well developed. Both Aiden and Ash have their demons, but together they just might find something magical - if they can only shake off the shackles of their past. The whole situation Ash was in with his abusive partner was devastating. The alternating POV mean we get to see the situation from his perspective, but also experience Aiden's heartache when he lays eyes on Ash after a particularly bad encounter. The hopelessness Ash felt is showcased well, as is the hope that he can one day be brave enough to truly walk away.
I loved that we still got to see Bennet, Xavier and Lucky who featured in Book 1. I also liked the way the plotlines with Aiden's family, as well as with Ash's ex were closed out. The introduction of Laird/Oz for book 3 was done smoothly, and the book was well rounded as a whole.
I felt this book was a more involved read that Book 1, which is partially due to the location the books are set in - the isolated wilderness versus the busy city. Perhaps its my empathetic side showing, but I did feel more connected with Aiden and Ash than I did with Xavier and Bennett - their heartache really sucked me in and had be rooting for their happily ever after - that depth I just didn't quite get in book 1.
Can't wait to read the next book and learn more about the mysterious Jake, and how he deals with Laird/Oz showing up on his turf.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved It so much
It made me gasp a lot towards the end, and that's awesome. I loved the characters; the hurt, the comfort.
The violence was felt even if It was described "carefully" which I was glad for, since it's something that really gets to you regardless of anyone's personal story. The love displayed was beautiful, the story perfect, and the last scene with his father was poignant and much needed. The only downside was that the Bobby part didn't get a real closure. Cant wait to read the next, I totally loved this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This was one of the best books I've ever read. The story is so deep and real, it had shivers running down my spine. I really enjoyed that an m/m romance focused on such an important and difficult topic while still remaining a beautiful love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ash & Aiden
Aiden went very well noticed during book 1 and the way he tried very hard to set Xander and Benny together and he even brought some lightness to their drama.
But even than, we could spot the sadness, loneliness and self loathing uncovered by the shallowness and the way he dealt with life.
We could see he was a very nice, faithful, fierce and gentle friend, but we could also clearly spot his tormented soul.
I was very anxious to read his love story, but even prepared to have a good and careful look at Aiden, this second book was a surprise. This book, different than many of these two authors’ previous plots I read, was extremely serious and even heavy.
Time to talk about our adorable Ash.
Ash, even managing to keep his soul light and sweet, suffered two some of most extreme and unbearable sadness and heartbreaking situations during his still very short and young life.
This book was extremely well written, it’s a deadly serious remark when it brings organs transplants, organ donations, heavy losses in general, but mostly when it brings to light the Domestic Violence and its nasty consequences.
Again, it’s a heavy, sometimes even graphic, but it’s necessary to bring this subject to light, without warm excuses or half truths, it exposes all the nastinesses and darkness attached to the subject.
It’s even fearless the way these two authors went deep into the darkest psychological consequences of this terrible social problem, specially when it remains kept uncovered by four home walls and hidden from the spotlight of the truth.
Thumbs up and hands down one of the best books I read this past year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece
Lennox and Kennedy are a formidable writing team, and this is yet another of their masterpieces. To say I loved every bit of it is an understatement and I check myself on that statement knowing how much I loved the previous book. While I was instantly aware of the villain from the beginning, I was enticed to see how the writers would weave his story, where and how he’d be revealed. To experience the magic with which they weave organ donation, partner-abuse, loss, and family dynamics into a mm love story is a gift. To close, “Don’t Let Go” of the chance to experience the story of Aidan and Ash.
