Saving Rafe (Lords of Discord Book 2) Kindle Edition
Rafe Varik: The troublemaker. The risk taker. The sexy club owner full of wicked promises.
Rafe has devoted his immortal existence to pleasure and causing mischief.
The only ones who can depend on him are his brothers. Of course, that’s very much a Varik thing.
But when the leader of the Arsenault clan specifically requests Rafe’s help in tracking down a killer, he can’t say no.
Sure, Rafe claims he’s doing it for his family. They’ve attracted too many enemies and could use a few allies.
That’s not the whole truth, though.
There’s something about Philippe Arsenault that draws Rafe in. He wants more of Philippe. The vampire leaves him longing for another second in his presence, another taste of his lips, another caress of those perfect fingers.
Yet when it’s all over, what will become of Philippe and Rafe? Because Philippe will always be an Arsenault, and Rafe will always be a Varik.
Saving Rafe is the second book in an MM paranormal romance series that has vampires, betrayal, annoying brothers, music, heartbreak, hope, sexy times, and a pair of star-crossed lovers.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2020I loved the characters in this book, they were so well written and individualistic. The relationships between the brothers were particularly interesting. The main characters were wonderful, and their evolving relationship was enthralling. They were suspicious, conflicted, unsure, and each interaction was so real and based on circumstance that were reasonable in their world.
The vampires in this book are refreshing. They are not overpowered or consumed by bloodlust, they're individuals. They're certainly more powerful than humans, but they are also vulnerable and have to use their brains to prevail against their enemies. They are gifted, but these gifts can be more of a liability than a strength.
The plot is firmly bedded in the politics of vampire society, and the politics actually make sense. There's no tedious explanations, because they're not needed. Everyone understands the corruption that lust for power brings and the devastation of extreme ideology.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book of this series and I was enthralled by Saving Rafe. I definitely recommend this as an engaging and enthralling read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2023I may like this one more than the first. Philippe reminds me of Alucard from Castlevania, but that could be me projecting my ships.
The plot was a bit predictable, but the angst was better.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2020I liked this one better than the first book. Rafe was easier to hang around than Marcus, however there is still something missing for me from this series. The chemistry between the brothers is great, and I love Aiden. Having the father-son heart to heart was probably one of my favourite scenes in this book. I guess there are just things that don't mesh with this series for me. It still feels a little rough. Its both too long and too short. I thought this started out great with the shooting, but then it slowed right down. I'm also not sure why Rafe didn't use his brothers to find out where Piper was and just relay the info to Philippe? Why was that such a no-no? Wasn't that the point in giving the brothers the task of finding her? Even his twin brother could have asked some animals or whatever he did at the end. Instead Rafe takes it on by himself, and he and Philippe do very little investigating. He doesn't use his club at all for the information ground it could be. And that makes me also wonder why people were being taken and then found dead a week later? What happened in that week? At the end that wasn't the case, so why with the first three? And spread out so slowly? Also, this one was so unbelievably obvious as to who was behind it. I knew immediately, and just assumed that was an obvious "bad guy" and there had to be a twist away from that person. But there wasn't. So that was sort of disappointing, because it then showed how much of a poor leader Philippe was to not see it, too. Honestly, for me there was more frustrating about this book than enjoyable. I couldn't lose myself into it. However, if you're looking for a steamy paranormal m/m then this could be the book for you. It can definitely work as a standalone, although it'll be easier to just read the first book before this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2024I liked this better than book one. It could be the characters, I’m partial to bad boys who like to flaunt their independence, but also, the secondary supporting characters are a bit more fun here. We know who all the brothers are and it’s just getting to know everyone else. Also, the club Blush might be my favorite setting. Truly enjoying this series. There is spice, it’s not on every page but that thread of two being pulled together is certainly there throughout. I did spot some slight inconsistencies in mythology/lore between book one and this one but it’s not important enough to make issue over it. Onward to book 3.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2021I enjoyed the first book of the series. I was really looking forward to this one because when we were introduced to Rafe in the first book, I thought I was going to love him. But the vampires of this world are just so vanilla. They are extremely humanized versions of vampires. They're just not my brand of vamp. And Rafe became a little less exciting in his own story. His edge wore off and I didn't love him as much as I was hoping to. The character of Phillippe seemed like he was initially mysterious and dangerous. Turns out, he isn't really. Their romance becomes quite schmaltzy pretty fast. And it kills the heat. And kinda lost my interest. So if you're into a m/m vampire romance that is almost just a human m/m romance, then this should work for you. If you love Jex Lane and her Beautiful Monsters series, then don't expect to enjoy these vamps too much.

3.0 out of 5 stars Auch okay

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book
This was a great second book in the series and Rafe stole my heart.
It was so good to see a different side of him than what we get to see in the first book.
That man is full of doubt, love and trust.
I quite liked Philippe, how he was with Rafe and people around them. He is a heart of gold with some traits that are unexpected (and hot).
Their relationship was great to read, I loved how things develop between them.
The plot was very interesting. Playing of some of the events from the previous book as well as deepening some parts of the main storyline.
I can't wait to see what happens next and what comes Bel's way

5.0 out of 5 stars Change coming
Another amazing book! Looking at what was happening next for the Variks, this time through the eyes of Rafe, and the story did not disappoint in any way!
Rafe has long been seen as the most brash and devil may care of the Varik brothers. With his clubs, Instagram presence, and refusal to do anything quietly, he is often seen as the least serious part of the Variks. But Rafe is just as serious about family as all of his brothers and when it is asked that he becomes the topic of alliance with the neighbouring clan Rafe steps up to hekpmhis family however he can. Finding the clan led by a surprisingly young vampire who he feels an immediate attraction to, Rafe soon finds himself worried that his ability to stay true to his family is being tested.
Phillipe is the leader of the most secretive clan of the American vampires. Looking to make an alliance he is very protective of his clan and sees those same qualities in the Variks. They reach out to Rafe because Phillipe sees something more in him than the careless image Rafe gives to the public. As Phillipe gets to see more of the man that is only further solidified. But being from two different clans, ones that each have secrets, makes it seem too impossible a bridge to cross for anything more than an alliance.
This book had a natural progression of story from the events of the first. As the Variks have destroyed on clan, one that was thought to be impressively powerful, they are now a point of interest. The alliance seeks to help shore things up but it also brings up many sore points. There is the insular quality that the Variks have always had, making them seem as snobs, but which hid things that the outside world did not know about. Changing that is difficult as the brothers have stayed closed for so long out of need, but things have already changed with the newest Little Varik coming along. Figuring out how to change their family without changing the core part, the fact that they are family, is a real challenge. Add in the threats from other vampires and the observation of the Ministey, and it is clear that there is a fight ahead for the Variks.
Another great book, look forward to continuing the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Down- Four to Go.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in this series. The world building is superb, the characters well rounded and sympathetic and the action and romance are both spot one. I can’t wait to read the last three love stories and the volume of short stories about the Variks that I’ve just bought. Bring them on.

4.0 out of 5 stars From wild and wanting to calm(er) and complete.
Loved this book, more so than the first one because I was familiar with the brothers, their story and the factions around them.
I’m enjoying getting to know each brother as he is revealed in his own story, and Rafe is far more than the debauched, sex-loving, partying, night club owner that he is portrayed as. He has his own demons to battle and together with Phillipe, the head of the Arsenault clan, he overcomes those fears and learns of his strengths. He finds his place within his own family and he finds love.
