- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2019I have enjoyed all of he books in the French Quarter Mystery series with Wyatt Thomas. Mr. Wilder does a great job weaving many layers of characters and culture into his stories. The main character is the city of New Orleans and I love that I’m transported to many of my favorite parts of the Quarter when I read these books. The only thing I didn’t love was the Eddie Toledo part of the story. I would’ve enjoyed it more if it wound together with Wyatt’s part, but it didn’t at all. While interesting, it felt like filler. Still, I definitely recommend this book and the whole series. Very enjoyable. On a side note, I’d love to know which bar is the inspiration for Bertrum’s Bar on Chartres.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2019Another intriguing book in this series placed in the fascinating city of New Orleans! The characters are great and the setting is perfect for exciting and unusual activities. This has developed into a great series by Wilder, and I look forward to more.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2019I really enjoy all the Wyatt Thomas mysteries; the characters are all very juicy! I found that the secondary story line with Eddie a little lacking this time around. I wanted more!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2021This is the first book I have read by Eric Wilder. I have been wanting to read this series for a while. I love New Orleans, especially the abundant history that can be learned during a guided tour of the cemeteries. The author did a great job with the setting and the characters. I actually felt as if I was back in the Big Easy with the characters. It took time for me to read the book because I am a chicken, afraid of things that go bump in the night, so I started reading long before my bedtime. It was a great story and one I discovered I could read in the night.
What I liked most about this book were the mystery and suspense. I was disappointed each time I had to stop reading. The best part is the mystery and suspense last all the way until the end. The only part of the story I rushed past was the treasure hunt. I have to admit, I did not find those characters as interesting and entertaining. All I wanted to do was stay with Wyatt, Adela, Taj, and Mama. I even enjoyed the time travel and the characters there. Some of the words shocked me because I was not expecting them, but when put in the context of the historical time, the shock wore off.
Although I started at the end of the series, the story was complete. I never felt I was missing anything. I will definitely read more in this series.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2020You can never go wrong with a Wyatt Thomas book. This one will stop and make you think. Eric Wilder knocked it out of the park with this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2019I am absolutely in love with Wyatt, Mama, and all the others characters! I have re-read all of the French Quarter Mysteries; they are so good. I was excited this one came out and eagerly wait for number 8.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2021I had a really hard time fully getting into and staying into this book. I could easily put it down and get sidetracked on other things, and that's very unusual when I've got a book in my hand...especially most of Eric's. The whole Eddie story was a little confusing and over the top to me, I didn't see much benefit yet. However I'm hoping it leads either to a book of it's own or even a new series. All of the characters were likable except Aleda/Aisling her personality kept changing and just made her really unlikable. Anyway none of this was a real deal break because I'm off to read the next.
