Serf and Turf: A Silicon Valley Mystery (Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 117 ratings

He’s afraid of losing his girlfriend. But maybe he should be more concerned about the dead body she’s crying over?

Marty Golden can barely string a voicemail message together, let alone keep up with his new love. This quirky uncle’s hectic Silicon Valley lifestyle needs a reboot when a youth league soccer game becomes a murder scene. And nothing can stop him from donning his amateur sleuth uniform when he discovers his sweetheart used to have quite a thing for the dead guy …

With a not-so-helpful paw from Buddy the Labrador, he does his best to sniff out a long list of possible suspects. But between gossipy soccer moms and the costume-clad members of a Renaissance Faire, Marty’s theories fall harder than a jousted knight.

Can Marty solve the case before the trail and his new flame grow cold?

Serf and Turf is the third book in the zany, Silicon Valley cozy mystery series. If you like laugh-out-loud comedy, dorky sleuths, and a festival of old-world fun, then you’ll love Marc Jedel’s humorous murder mystery.

From the Author

Marc Jedel writes humorous murder mysteries. In his high-tech marketing roles, he's also written fiction. These are just called emails, ads, and marketing collateral. Although family and friends would tell you that the protagonist in his stories, Marty Golden, isn't much of a stretch of the imagination for Marc, he would love to hear who were your favorite characters and scenes.

Marc Jedel writes humorous murder mysteries. Years in Silicon Valley marketing leadership positions honed his sense of humor and writing skills. Crafting fiction on the job was simply called emails, ads, and marketing collateral.

The publication of Marc’s first novel, Uncle and Ants, gave him permission to claim “author” as his job. This leads to much more interesting conversations with people than answering, “marketing.”

Like his character, Andy, from the Redwoods Country Mystery series, Marc continues to grow older and would prefer not to run a bed-and-breakfast inn when he retires. Like his character, Marty, from the Silicon Valley Mystery series, Marc now lives in Silicon Valley, works in high-tech, and enjoys bad puns. Like his characters Jonas and Elizabeth from the Ozarks Lake Mystery series, he grew up in the South and spent plenty of time in and around Arkansas. Like all his protagonists, Marc too has a dog, although his is neurotic, sweet, and small, with little appreciation for Marc’s humor.

Book 3 delivers for cozy mystery fans!
Marty gets tangled up in yet another set of crazy circumstances that revolve around his family and friends set against the backdrop of a slightly fictionalized (in a Scott Adams way) Silicon Valley. This book is a great read when you want to destress. I share this series with my 86 year old mom, and she loves them! While you don't have to read the books in order, I recommend it so you can enjoy all the backstories of the characters.

What a fun read. I identify with nerdy Uncle Marty as he tries to solve a suspicious death, still work at his innovative self-driving car company and take care of his two young nieces and their rambunctious big dog. I’m looking forward to book 4 in the series.

Marty makes me laugh with his thoughts about Mace, helping out, forgetting things and getting caught. Then again as he finally figures out how and who and why they killed, but how he gets there is funny.

Recieved a preview copy to read and review. I really, really enjoyed the first book and was in the middle of book 2 when I received my preview copy of Serf & Turf. I was having trouble reading book 2, so I put it aside and jumped into book 3 hoping for a better experience. I had trouble reading Serf & Turf, I can't remember much and I don't understand why. I so enjoyed Uncles & Ants. It was funny and I enjoyed the interaction between Marty and his nieces. This did not happen in either of the following books. I may come back at a later time and try reading again in hopes of a better outcome.

This is the third book in a series of fun to read books. It is set in the future where there are driverless cars. The main character is a brilliant, but not hard working, funny computer whiz. He is an amateur sleuth. This is a GREAT read with twists and turns, humor, a few scary moments. It is a clean, fun cozy mystery free of sex and swearing (which I greatly appreciate). Maybe a bit "slapstick" in a good way.

I read an advance copy. This is my own opinion.

Funny, interesting, Romantic, good story line, can't wait to see the next read. Like the modern day issues used as a theme.
