About the author

Elizabeth Bailey grew up in Africa with unconventional parents, where she loved reading and drama. On returning to England, she developed her career in acting, theatre directing and finally writing.
Elizabeth's latest venture is The Lady Fan Mystery series, published by Sapere Books. The novels feature amateur sleuth Lady Ottilia Fanshawe and a cast of family members including her husband and champion Lord Francis Fanshawe. She originally published Regency romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon and has many titles in her Brides by Chance Regency Adventures series, now also published by Sapere, as well as standalone Regency and Georgian romances.
Elizabeth also writes edgy women's fiction: Her dual time novel Fly The Wild Echoes, which deals with past lives, and For One More Tomorrow, where the ghost of the real Macbeth returns, protesting his villainous portrayal by Shakespeare. And she has published a romantic suspense novella, Silence of a Stranger.
Elizabeth lives in Sussex, England. She is still an inveterate reader with eclectic tastes and she spends her spare time helping other writers improve their craft.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2017Elizabeth Bailey's stories are always a pleasure to read, and "Seventh Heaven" is no exception. Charming, funny, and intelligent with well-developed characters, this story is a comfort-read for me. I particularly like Septimus, the hero, who, rather than being the typical "rake saved by an innocent," is complex and worth cheering for. As with almost all of Ms Bailey's books, "Seventh Heaven" is a sweet romance, which I appreciate.
It seems absurd to have to say it, but "Seventh Heaven" is a genuine, fully professional offering. If you are looking for books to read after you've finished Georgette Heyer's canon (or even before!), these will not disappoint you. I have gotten so tired of historical romances that get 4-5 stars but are way off on the time period or language. It is frustrating to see those reviews and buy books that have received little or no editing: that pop you out of the story every other page with blatant errors. After wading through dud after dud, I always breathe a sigh of relief to get back to a "real" book like Ms. Bailey's.
I whole-heartedly recommend "Seventh Heaven."
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2015There is something of the madcap here in this delightful romance, which features a managing widow with a big heart and a quirky outcast family of adult children whose Latin names reflect their birth-order. Their mother insists on being called by her first name by her numerous progeny (she can scarce keep track of who's who, except, perhaps for the 'baby,' 18 year old Decimus, who's the only one that dares call her 'Mom"). In another day and age, she would be hauled into the Youth and Family Services to explain her neglect, but in this story she adds a strong comedic presence and comes out with some of the best one-liners in the piece.
There really is a sweet romance [well, a couple of romances] and the large family, as depicted, has an element of the realistic in it, as one would find such varied personalities and genuine disorders in any real-life large family of children who have, essentially, raised themselves.
Don't worry - Sigmund Freud is not the author of this, despite how my review reads! It really is a delightfully pleasant escape!!! You will laugh out loud aplenty. Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2018I've always enjoyed Georgian Romances with the sword play and vibrant characters, and this is perfectly what I enjoy.
The family is large and eccentric but every one somehow still unique and interesting, and I'd like to see how they get on in future books.
The author's strong suit is definitely characterization, but pacing and a lively plot kept me entertained.
I'd recommend this book to anyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2016I have mixed feelings on this book. Although the writer is clearly talented, the flavor of the story was obviously somewhat farcical in nature - to the point, it wasn't appealing to me overall. I'm not a huge fan of satire or slapstick and although this book wouldn't be considered to be in that category, it was a kind of farce. Nevertheless, the primary characters - Louisa and Septimus were awesome and once the author began to draw them out, I was able to glean some sweet romance from the "Poet" and the "Manager."
In fact, Septimus, or "Setty" was the only person capable of managing Louisa who was continually managing others. Again, Louisa is one of my favorite heroine types - strong, capable, making the best of her own life, while helping others out of their own quagmires. Even though Setty is perceived in the beginning as someone who isn't overtly masculine, the tone changes as the story evolves. I loved the way he dealt with his younger brother, Dess - calling him "Babe" and his sweet and confident manner in his dealings with Louisa.
I'm interested in trying more books by this author.

There were quite a few participants here besides the main two and all were adequately fleshed out to be quite recognizable, even the heroine's deceased husband, to a point. 5.0 out of 5 stars So many Berownes, so little time!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOh my, what a complicated group of sisters & brothers! Lady Louisa Shittlehope - a very managing wealthy widow - meets her match with this family, and with Septimus in particular. Confusion, attraction, an abduction, and not one but two love affairs add to the charm of this story. Reading quickly to the end, I felt I was in a circus!! What an experience! Fascinating characters in this historical romance, had me in thrall to the very end!! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly Charming and currently my Second Favourite Book!
How does Elizabeth Bailey do it? How does she create and control the lively cast of characters that this book conjures up before our eyes?
This novelist is a past master at bringing a Georgian or Regency world racing across the page. It is fun from start to finish but you still become involved and embroiled in the lives and loves of her completely delightful hero and heroine. As usual with Bailey's stories, the plot races along and you just have to read the next little bit to see what happens.
If you love Heyer, you will love this! If you haven't read Heyer, you will still find yourself in a lively period romance that stretches the bounds of probability in the most delightful way possible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny and sweet
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSeventh Heaven is such a sweet book full of several engaging characters. Setty is such a likeable chap, witty and dashing in equal measure. Louisa is nice too, maybe a tad too soft hearted but very likeable.
I really enjoyed it. It made me laugh.

4.0 out of 5 stars good story
Another good book by Elizabeth Bailey, clean and well written, with a generally good plot. The reasons why it lost a star were (1) there was too much blasphemy in some sections (not too bad mostly, but more than I liked), and (2) parts of it were just plain ludicrous, and though I don't mind that to a point, at times it went a little bit too far. Still a good book, and one I'll probably re-read, but not my favourite by the author. Still recommended though.
