I absolutely loved "Shiver," the opener in this series which featured Lucas and Andrei, and wherein Ashton ("Snow") Frost was introduced. But even though that tome was extremely intense in both plot and sexual activity, I was completely unprepared for the intensity of the plot and sexual activity in this book.

That's because I did not expect the hookups-only Snow to suddenly become vulnerable to a potential relationship until the authors introduced us to Jude, who is a brilliantly crafted character and a perfect foil and catch for Snow. In effect, it is a match that mimics that of hookups-only Lucas and Andrei in "Shiver" with the caveat that Jude is openly gay and Andrei was latently bisexual until he met Lucas.

Jude is an EMT and Snow is a trauma surgeon at Cincinnati Hospital and their paths cross here and there but crash together when an extraordinarily violent vehicle incident sets the plot afoot and explodes the relationship of Lucas, Snow, Rowe and Ian, a relationship beautifully detailed in "Shiver," one in which Lucas' lover Andrei eventually becomes a member of this family. Ironically, Jude occupies the same cultural outsider's role as did Andrei--both are sons of immigrants (Andrei's is Romanian and Jude's Spanish-Greek) which adds a completely unique spin to the backgrounds of the other four.

In any case, this plot includes remnants of the dastardly deeds and individuals from "Shiver," but diverts into sickening criminality that may give you pause--and in my case completely shocking since I thought I was familiar with the cultural interactions of the Cincinnati-Covington area. But I was wrong.

But at its core this is a deeply moving and completely realistic love story between two men who have always been dominant in life and in bed, but who are smart enough to realize that the events both of them have gone through are leading them to understand that it may be today you have always lived for but it's really tomorrow which holds the opportunity for living it better.

Brilliant, just brilliant, and I immediately bought the short story sequel and will get the rest of the series after I recover from each one.

I didn't think I would like prickly Snow but he just needed someone to show him the kind of love that only relationships can provide. Jude was exactly the perfect balance of a domineering yet gentle man that Snow needed to let down his walls.

I was not prepared for this series....

I didn't think any of the guys would affect me like Andrei and Lucas, but ooooh was I wrong. Snow and Jude are just as amazing, just in a different way.
I knew Frost was going to be a hard one.... The things he'd been through, the things he needed, I knew that they were going to be hard walls to knock down. Maybe close to impossible, even. They were.... though not as back and forth as Andrei and Lucas was LOL, I'm glad the two of them got over the whole pretense that things weren't serious between them.... the way those two love each other is..... seriously swoon-worthy and I love it. They're still just as amazing in this one... though we focus more on Jude and Snow....

We also get more of Ian's story, which I am SO excited about, I already know he's going to be my favorite. He and the detective... yes, please! I'm also hoping for something maybe with Sven and somebody hot...

So, okay... heartbreaking spoiler.... Rowe loses Melissa. I was very surprised at how hard that hit me... mostly because of the guys, Rowe especially, but it nearly killed all the guys. They were all close to her. In losing her, they realize a person from their past.... a person from Ian's passt was the reason behind it, and he's coming back with a vengeance.

Now, I'm not usually one for angst, and thrillery type crime, but whooooa.. this one had me flipping page after page, just dying to know what happened and praying for karmic justice for these friends. Not only because of the guy who killed Mel, but also for what happened to Ian, and all those young boys that even though it isn't something that's talked about a lot... that it's a very real thing in our country. It made me sick to think about, but I was glad that there are people, even if fictional-verse, that are there to help these kids... I wish they all had endings like the kids that were saved in this one
    Sigh.... subject change.

Another thing that I loved, was that Jude seemed to know exactly what he wanted, and exactly what Snow needed, and while others might have shied away from him.... Jude didn't give up. He pushed back and quite literally at times, and Snow was no match for him. I loved seeing him let his guards down and trust Jude. I loved watching them fall for each other.

Sighhh again.... I know for a crazy crime thriller, it's crazy that I focus so much on the romance aspect... but reading about these two.. you can't help but root for them, because they'd both needed each other so badly.
I also loved Jude's family... I hope we see more of them too.

And Gregory... where did he go? I hope he gets someone awesome too.... Hey! Maybe even Sven!
There's an idea.... Luckily for me, I'm late to the game, so I have all these books to catch up on and I don't have to wait for the next one.
Love this series and I would most definitely recommend them all!
    On to the next!
5 well deserved stars from me on this one.

It took me a while to get to writing my reviews because I just read the whole series in a couple of weeks and I’m about to dive into the spin-off (Ward Security). And no, I wasn’t stopping to write my reviews between the books. Honestly, this series is pretty damn perfect for me – a well written, believable suspense plot; a series that continues a story without a major cliffhanger and involves all/most of the characters throughout the series; depth of character which this series has IN. SPADES.; witty banter that is entertaining but NOT over the top; and super-hot sexual chemistry! I feel like I’m in the minority usually but I love dual points of view…in this series we actually get multiple points of view in some books and I am a-ok with that.

While each of these books leans toward the relationship development of one couple, all the characters are in each book and they are definitely not standalones. I liked this book better than Shiver primarily because the relationship between Snow and Jude is settled by the end of the book unlike what we got with Lucas and Andrei. Snow and Jude have amazing sexual chemistry and Jude seems to settle the restlessness Snow always feels. Jude is domineering when Snow needs that but also gently loving when that is needed. They just work.

There is quite a bit of heartache in this one (that was spoiled for me because I read book 1 of Ward Security first without knowing not to) which will lead to some heavy emotions and healing in the next book.

Definitely a must read in my book!

What do you say about a book that tore you up?
Shatter is hot. The two leading men Jude and Snow are hot as heck and together well good lord I needed a minute to compose myself. They are spectacular together. Though how they fit together was unexpected.
But as much as it's about sex, it's about family. Actually more so. Shatter continues what Shiver began and what is core to Unbreakable Bonds it shows what people are willing to do for family, what a family is. Ms Gidget is as much a part of this family now as Jude and Andrei. I would not want to be the man that messes with her. But Shatter gave us a look at Lucas and Snow's shared past that almost destroyed me. My heart broke for both of them (and made me want to kill Lucas for his loyalty). Ian too his past is crushing and Devour is going to be soul destroying because of it. Torch is intriguing but I fear a little predictable given where we are now, especially given the blurb.

Shatter is basically what it looks like. MLM with a seriously hot paramedic, and an even hotter but emotionally damaged doctor. If that appeals to you then read it. It can be read stand alone but I recommend Shiver first. It explains the relationships between the four central men and gives events in the book extra gravity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is there a sweeter, hotter couple than Lucas&Andrei? Definitely yes!!!
Reviewed in Germany on October 5, 2018
„Shatter“ manages to surpass the action, emotions and passionate scenes from „Shiver“! Dr “Snow” Frost seems rude and arrogant, but it is just one of his many safety mechanisms keeping everyone at bay exept his friends. Then someone malicious from their shared past returns to Cincinnati and is determined to shatter his and his friends' lives. Snow is pushed way beyond all his safty walls when being framed for murder while beating himself up for not having been there for Rowe and Melissa. But the hot paramedic Jude Torres just steamrolls over Snow's protests and arrogance and holds him tight.

As soon as I had finished „Shiver & Lucas“, I knew, I wanted, no needed more of Snow. I had been so curiouse, who would be the special one, finally capturing and melting his frozen heart. Jude's character took me by surprise though. He comes off as an easy guy, dedicated to his work, loves his family and supports his friends. But he also is strong, determined and has a natural sexual dominance. After that first unexpected kiss with Snow, Jude stays at Snow's side and fights for and with him. That impressed me and made me realize how well the hot paramedic fits into the though unbreakable bond guys group.

I have to admit, the erotic scenes had been a bit toooo... many for my liking and I was really tempted to flip through some of those passages to the action scenes. Gosh, I felt so worried about Rowe and was as relieved as his friends, when he returned to the showdown. Jude's colleage Rebecca and his mother brought a light, fresh breeze to all the darkness and angst. Again the crime part was not too thrilling and the ending felt rushed. Still it cristalizes that there is someone bigger behind the scenes attacking the close 4 friends, so I am anxious what creepy, horrible things will await the guys next.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute page-turner that unleashed every delicious 'shiver' book one promised and a hero that shattered my heart :)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 28, 2016
It's no secret amongst my reading group that book one in the UB series felt like an untapped goldmine to me and I was left with an HFN I did not believe in one iota. However, I also said I would read the second because I wasn't blind to the potential, the four leads were deliciously alpha, and the actual writing was fantastic. So here we are.

And, wow. Just...wow. I'm utterly amazed at how well the series concept came together, where I once thought it somewhat messy and unfocused. I couldn't feel that unbreakable bond between the four leads in book one - here you get it in spades and so everything becomes clearer, whether it be motivation, conflict or desire. I hadn't been able to feel any true loving romance in book one and yet 'Shatter' brimmed with it. From all angles. Even Lucas and Andrei won me over within several pages and the entirety of their book failed to do that. I can't even explain it, this book just worked. It was brilliantly done. So kudos to the authors for pulling it together so tightly and delivering the promise of not one but the first two books. I do hope the few who were put off by Shivers slow pace and lack of HEA give this series another shot. It would be a crying shame to miss Snow's amazing journey to disovering love. Speaking of....

Holy heck balls!! Snow and Jude people! These two were perfect for each other. I loved LOVED them both. What amazing characters: fully fleshed out, unique and fascinating people. And the pages they shared....caught fire, I swear. Snow was the one who shattered my heart, who I desperately wanted a true hero for. Not Lucas. Sorry, he wasn't enough for Snow in my eyes. But Jude. OMG Jude. Yes! For me, he took this book from great to amazing. He had this deep integrity, a beautiful moral strength and a kind of masculine power that seemed to heal all the dark shades of Snow's soul. I could literally feel their chemistry and passion and yes, love. Even before it was declared, I could feel it. That, my friends, is good romance. And for those readers who like meaningful, unique, character-enhanced love scenes, every one in this book says 'Snow & Jude', every one is perfectly delicious.

All in all, this one is a true keeper and I can't wait for Rowe's book.
