4.4 out of 5 stars 676 ratings

A stark account of the siege of Khe Sanh – one of the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War! Perfect for fans of Andrew Watts, L. T. Ryan, Don Keith and George Wallace.

U.S. Marines battle for Vietnam’s vital hilltop base…

Vietnam, 1968

The combat base at Khe Sanh comes under siege.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading SHIFTING FIRES by Eric Helm. This is not the first book I've read from this author, all were engaging and hard to put down. There are different storylines taking place in this book: President Johnson at the White House, a communication colonel in Saigon, another in the White House, soldiers on the bases of Khe Sahn and surrounding hills, and when following Gerber and Fetterman on their mission.

Although fiction, the story is plausible and follows history. Who knows, the mission into Laos to assassinate a general could be a true story, but still top secret??? I am a Vietnam Veteran and understand all the trials and tribulations suffered by those in firebases and on patrol. Mr. Helm must also have served because his descriptions can't be made up; they are from first-hand knowledge.

If you want to learn more about the war, don't hesitate to get this story. It is an easy read and flows well. I will continue in the series and move on to the next story. HIghly recommended.

Great book well researched and keeps the reader excited to turn the pages. Mr. Helm has a way to make his characters become alive on the page and gets the reader to feel like they are in there shoes. This is the second one I have read and have already ordered the next one.

Written by two men who took part in the war and (although fiction), tell it like it was. One of a great series of books. Excellent.
