    Once again, Moreland knocks it out of the park with another poignant, inspiring read with a found-family theme. We got a glimpse of Brett and Kelly earlier in the series, and I should have known. It's always the quiet ones who end up surprising us the most!

    Brett has watched his two best friends and business partners at Reynolds Restoration find love. He’s happy for his friends, but it's bittersweet for Brett. The one girl he wants is the one that flits into town for a few days and right back out again on her travel photography adventures. The one who vows she'll never stay. When Kelly returns home for an indefinite length of time Brett knows there’s something seriously wrong. While his brain says to stay away from the one woman with the power to destroy him, his heart tells him Kelly needs him.

    This is one of those series I wish would never end, but it's not the first Moreland series I’ve said that about. She has a way of peeling back the complicated layers of wounded, vulnerable characters, making us fall in love with them before we ever realize it. Of course, Brett and Kelly are no different.

    I adore these two so much, and enjoyed each moment of their winding road to forever. With just enough suspense and danger to keep me on the edge of my seat, this epic love story stole my heart. Between Brett and Kelly finding their way to love, catching up with characters who feel like family, and a little additional romance on the side, this is one of my favorite reads this year. This story will steal your heart, ruin it a bit, and return it to you better than new, and you'll love every second you spend with these phenomenal characters!

    This was my first time reading a Melanie Moreland.
    Book recommendation from Buzzing About Romance Book Club.
    Book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone for sure.

    The best way I can describe this book is a flash flood. Its hot and spice right from the beginning and the storyline keeps the audience engaged and wanting more. This book could have some triggers. Hero is a Mechanic with family loss issues. Heroine has past parent issues and has recently experienced extreme abuse. I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read and kept my attention. The writting flowed well from scene to scene. Characters from previous books are also key characters in this book and I will be reading them in the future.

    Ah, these men of Reynolds & Co. Restoration certainly know how to rev my engine. (See what I did there?) It's three for three as Melanie Moreland releases the third novel in her Reynolds Restorations series. Maxx Reynolds and Stefano Borelli have found their respective happily-ever-afters, and now, it's Brett Conner's turn. If you've read the other books in the series, you'll recall that car mechanic and business partner Brett has been hooking up with Charly Reynolds' best friend, photographer Kelly Ryerson. He was always hoping she would decide to actually be in a relationship with him, but her most recent decision to up and leave for an assignment without letting him know beforehand told Brett that maybe it was time to let her--and his pipe dream of forever with her--go. Months later, though, she's back, and even as he tries to avoid her and keep his bruised heart safe, Brett has noticed that there's something different about Kelly. He tells himself to stay professional and try to just be her friend, but as she opens herself up more, Brett's bound to shift gears again.

    Diving into this book, I knew that it was going to take a lot for me to warm up to Kelly. She had Brett's heart in her hands and she crushed it bit by bit each time she left him behind. Yeah, yeah, she was clear about not wanting anything more than physical with him, but still. But with the heartrending back story that Melanie Moreland gave her, I finally had a better understanding of why she was the way she was. Add to that the circumstances that had her finding solace in Littleburn with her best friend and with the guy she was afraid would want nothing to do with her after the way she treated him the last time they saw each other. I adored how Brett tried to protect himself but couldn't hid that protective and nurturing side that had. There was also the way he put in the effort to mend fences with his father. I was THIS close to giving this book five-plus stars, but I hesitated due to how the whole Carl, aka the photographer Kelly had been assisting and deemed a mentor, situation went about. Still, Shifting Gears is a solid five-star read, and I can't wait for Chase's story!

    I was so looking forward to this book and it was soooooo worth the wait!!! I absolutely LOVE Brett!!! He is the sweetest, dirtiest talker, protective, and loving heroes around!!! His love for Kelly was just amazing!
    Kelly comes back after another work trip with Carl but she's not the same person. She's recovering from being ill, she's withdrawn and nothing like herself. She's been through a lot, to say the least. Once Brett figures out she's in need, he doesn't hesitate to help her. He does try to keep his distance to protect his heart, but it doesn't last long. The pull between them is too strong!!
    It was wonderful to visit with Maxx, Charley, Stefano, Gabby, Theo, Chase and the rest of the town. We also get to know Brett's dad, Mack, a lot better. As well as Mama Rosa, Stefano's mother. Those 2 are simply fantastic together!!! Of course, there's the character we all love to hate, Carl. It was wonderful to see him get a little of what he deserved! He should have gotten a lot worse, but Kelly took pity on him.
    This was such a wonderful story with so much heart and love! And, an added bonus, we are going to get a book for Chase!!!! YEAH!! I love him!

    I though Stefano was great after reading his book but once I was finished Shifting Gears, Brett is definitely up there as probably my favourite of the Reynolds Restoration guys.

    My heart hurt for Brett for how he felt every time Kelly left and now that he hadn’t seen her for a while and was trying to get over her I started out not sure I wanted them to get together.

    He’s a great main character. Part of the family of choice that Max and Charley have surrounded themselves with, he was loyal, protective, hard working and had a great heart. I totally understood why he felt the need to distance himself from Kelly when she returned but then he learned about her past, how she grew up and what brought her back to town and all bets were off…..

    Kelly…. To be honest I wasn’t her biggest fan when we met her previously in the series and I’d have been ok with Brett staying away from her (then there wouldn’t have been a story I suppose!!) but when we actually got a glimpse of the ‘real her’ under the façade she hid behind I fell for her nearly as much as I did for Brett. There was a lot of strength to her character but the gods, she was so independent, closed off and such a stubborn woman at times that asking for help was not something she did easily. When she finally did it was like she fully saw what she had been missing or avoiding…. and for that I was glad.

    This pair were perfect together. They had such a connection and spark but that aside Brett was the support and strength that let Kelly just ‘be’… For him, Kelly was the future, if he could get her to stay in one place for any length of time.

    I loved the family dynamics in this story. Seeing Brett and his dad together, then you add in Stefano and his family, Maxx and Charley and their gang it was great to see just what support and love
    Kelly and Brett had surrounding them. We got a little glimpse at who’s gonna be falling next and lordy that was a funny initial meeting.

    Melanie Moreland is an auto-buy author for me and the Reynolds Restoration series is a definite favourite of mine.

    An all round 5* read that I’d recommend checking out.
