About the author

A former teacher, Lynette gave up her career in education a few years ago in order to focus on her writing and thus fulfil her childhood dream. She writes contemporary women's fiction, often involving romance with suspense or a supernatural twist. She claims 'Killing Jenna Crane', a romantic thriller and 'Unworkers' a modern ghost story/women's fiction are her personal favourites to date. A more recent release,'The Nightclub' is a romance packed with suspense, while her latest story 'Cocktails and Lies' marks a slight departure from contemporary romance into the realms of cozy mystery. You can find more details of all her novels on her website: http://www.lynettesofras.com. In the meantime, why not download her first, award-winning contemporary romance 'The Apple Tree' free from Amazon.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2022A few days ago, I heard part of an interview with a romance author who was defending her genre from the accusation that it’s trivial, lightweight. Somebody had said to her, “You’re a good writer – so why are you writing romance? You should be writing about something serious.”
“Serious!?” she said. “Romance is about who we’re attracted to, and why! Who we pledge to spend our lives with, who we choose to help us raise another generation! What’s more serious than that?”
Well, when you put it that way….
And that’s what I love about Lynette Sofras’s romance novels. She writes about relationships between and among real people, people with human strengths and weaknesses. Her characters have history, they have pasts that follow them around – as all our pasts follow us, like it or not. “Shopping for Love,” especially, is concerned with generations, and with a central couple who are living with the results of choices they’ve both made. It’s a love story, yes. It’s sexy and romantic, as a love story can be. And, as every real love story is, it’s indeed serious!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2012This is an excellent story, and I recommend it. The characters were realistic, and I was pleased to find the same magic in this work that I have found in Sofras's other works. Try this author. You won't be disappointed! :)

Emma Bennett is a primary school teacher that goes to the market every Friday to shop for her elderly neighbor, Joan. Greg harper is a divorcee and father of two, he also shops at the supermarket every Friday for is elderly grandfather, Jack. After they spot each other while looking for tomatoes, they are instantly attracted to each other. The third time they see each other he has his kids Sophie & Toby, but these kids are familiar, in fact she teaches one of them. From there, their relationship is nothing short of a roller-coaster ride.
We have Emma's sketchy ex-boyfriend Bailey, that just will not go away. He also takes a keen interest in Greg because of his job. We have the jealous ex-wife Josie, who thinks she can do whatever she pleases, and tries to break them up. They have so many factors against them, yet they make it work.
My Thoughts
I enjoyed "shopping for love"! I felt the characters were realistic, and that the story flowed at a nice even pace. It was well-written, fairly decent in length, and packed the perfect blend of both romance and drama. Emma and Greg were sweet together. The children were cute and also provided some pretty funny moments (since they tend to talk before thinking).Emma's relationship with friend and fellow teacher Jenny, was a delight to read. I looked forward to their little moment's together .Last but not least, I hated both Bailey and Josie, but you're supposed to hate the mischief-makers. Overall, it was a pretty good book, I laughed, and I cried, all while rooting for the happy ending.
Extras
I'm in love with the cover art; initially that's what lured me to this book. I'm a sucker for an appealing cover.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2015This intriguing and ambiguous title is the key to the story. Two like-minded people meet at a supermarket. Their backgrounds are amazingly similar - both have been let down by selfish marriage partners who have trampled on them and abused their loving natures, yet it has not embittered them and they are prepared to put themselves out to help someone needy by doing their shopping for them. While performing an action prompted by compassionate love it is fitting that they are drawn together and ultimately find love and happiness.
In this skilfully told story the author has blended realism and romance: realism in the depiction of a very modern situation where two people meet who have broken marriages behind them and romance in the sensitive description of the love that develops between them.
There is drama and poignancy in the passages where each is confronted by the partner who has mistreated them and now would like to have them back and the author shows wisdom and sensitivity in these portrayals of human nature. I even found myself feeling pity for the erstwhile victimiser, yet at the same time appreciating they were having their come-uppance. I think this is the sign of a good writer that they can make us feel compassion even for the undeserving. Yet there is satisfaction when goodness and kindness win over selfishness and greed, leaving the reader with the sense that there is justice in this world after all. This story left me with a lot to think about and surely that is the mark of a successful novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2012If a book is excellent, I will rate it that way. If it's just OK in comparison to other books, then that's how it will be categorized. The book had realistic characters and a good story but the ending was terrible. It's not that I didn't like the ending, I never care about how a book ends, only that it gives you closure for all the existing storylines/issues. This book didn't accomplish that. It was free and I'd download it for that price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Relaxing light read
This is the first book I've read by this author and read it over a couple of evenings. It is a pretty typical chick lit but well written and entertaining. Would recommend it for when the brain needs to be switched off for a few hours, there's no big surprises but its an enjoyable read. I would read more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love on all levels
This intriguing and ambiguous title is the key to the story. Two like-minded people meet in a supermarket. It is fitting that they are drawn together at this time and through their kind actions ultimately find personal love and happiness. In this story the author has skilfully blended realism and romance: realism in the depiction of a very modern situation- two people with damaged marriages behind them; romance in the sensitive description of the love that develops between them. My overall feeling was satisfaction on reading this book because goodness and kindness won over selfishness and greed, showing that there is justice in this world after all. This story left me with a lot to think about and that is surely the mark of a successful novel. Well done, Lynette!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good romance
A well thought out love story, with 'real' characters in a 'real' setting. I don't usually read romances, however, this was free and I like to support other Indie authors.
This story had all the ingredients for this kind of book - humour, love and 'people to hate' - I liked it.
Worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another masterpiece
Rather than tell the plot of the story here, I think I will just say that Ms Sofras' story-telling is masterful. I love the way she makes the characters believable and 'normal'. The dialogues are smooth and natural and it is still a pleasure to have the sex scenes left to the imagination. There is absolutely no need to have the torrid and sometimes embarrassing scenes spelt out to the adult reader; most of us are capable of imagining. The story flows effortlessly along and you get swept up into the tide of emotions. I am not easily pleased by novels and I think I am quite hard on the writers, but I have yet to read one of Ms Sofras' novels and not like it - it is clear that to be able to write so fluently, somewhere along the line, she must have experienced the day to day turmoils of this couple and their respective ex's! There is humour as well as raw emotion and the scenes between Greg's father and grandfather brought a tear to my eye - for me, that means it is a great book! Please keep on writing - you have a great talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved it!
So unbelievably difficult to put down! I very nearly went without sleep for 2 days because I kept picking it up before going to bed and then couldn't stop. This is the second of Lynette's books that I've read now and they are both brilliant. She has such talent for creating believable characters and displaying their personalities effortlessly. I fell in love with the main characters (and the children) and felt Greg's anger and resentment towards his ex-wife. The emotions just pour out of the page as they did in 'The Apple Tree'. I can't wait to read another!
