The Singer and the Charlatan: (A Fantasy Comedy Series) (The Wicked Instruments Book 1) Kindle Edition
Leanna Moonbody dreams of playing a concert in the Saul Amphitheater. Trixi has a vision from her god to take thousands on a pilgrimage. When a chance encounter puts them together, they realize how much they need each other. With a lovesick noble and a deranged halfling that won't die on their tails, they'll need help. Employing a motley crew of rejects, they take off running to realize their dreams. But when they're forced to stand and fight, can they be heroes? D.C. Fergerson presents The Wicked Instruments, a 'lovely piece of nonsense' that follows the misadventures of the most unlikely of fantasy heroes.

About the author

The Master of Kung Fu and Friendship was born in the smog-wastes of New Jersey, then journeyed to a mountain in Asia. There, he learned of the power of friendship, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is Kung Fu.
He now resides in a dojo in North Carolina, where he has sired a future champion with his Mistress of Friendship. He writes of fantasy and humor, strong women and dragons.
He is the author of The Wicked Instruments series and The Dragon's Dream Saga. His biggest influences are the greats in humor - Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, and Chuck Palahniuk.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2022Congratulations to D.C. Fergerson for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2021We first meet the Singer, Leanna Moonbody, performing in Top's Inn. She had shown up three months earlier, dressed as a noble woman, with a guitar, a head wound, and not a penny to her name. She had no memories earlier than waking up alone in a forest, beside a bloody rock, with blood flowing from her head. Playing mostly old favorites, she looks like a goddess, and has a voice to match. She also seems to be innocent, naive, and perhaps a bit simple.
One day she is playing a song of her own composition to a relatively sparse lunchtime crowd
when an arrogant young nobleman comes in to post a notice on the back bulletin board. She begins to sing and soon has the entire audience in her hands - until the nobleman interrupts her song to make an announcement. This is when she learns that she has bardic powers.
This world seems to have an entire pantheon of gods, although we only meet the followers of two of them; the Great Dragon, and Thistle, the god of trickery. Humans are in the majority although some other races appear and a few play major parts. The tone is fairly light, with a lot of humor ranging from somewhat juvenile to mildly scatological.
This is a rewritten improved and expanded second release of the wicked instruments series book 1.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2022Set aside the day to read this. Reminds me a lot of the works of Terry Pratchett. Many families might consider it for a family read-aloud.
I received an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2021A most entertaining and rip roaring fantasy filled with equal amounts of adventure and humor. This was an epic story with will written characters and plot. Can't wait to read the rest of the books!
