Patrick Ryder is the author of numerous short stories, most of which appeared in small-press magazines in the nineties.
His first full-length novel is entitled 'Crossed Shadows' and is available on Amazon and Smashwords. 'Crossed Shadows' sits on that tense boundary between horror and science fiction, beginning with a misguided experiment at the CERN particle accelerator in Switzerland. 'When death lurks in your own shadow, where can you hide?'
He is author of 'Spiders in your Mind I', the first of a series of anthologies of new dark fiction. If you prefer your scares served cold, these stories are for you. Not recommended for reading at bedtime because no one hears your cries when you're lost in the night-time world...
His new short story, 'Regression', is set fifty years in the future, at the point when AI inevitably surpasses the capabilities of its human creators. 'The Singularity 50' is now available in Kindle and paperback format on Amazon.
He is a professional software engineer. For several years, he worked on video games, including the successful 'Broken Sword' series. He lives in the Howardian Hills, just outside York with his wife, Jillian, and telepathic dog Odie.
I write short stories and collaborate in publishing them with Janet Rawson, my writing partner.
I love to read, and I love to write too, but I have to be in the mood. My parents were both librarians so I guess that's where I got the bug. My favourite genre is science fiction but the stories I write tend to be more about relationships at the moment. What's that about?! Currently excited about Angels With Bruises, our latest short story collection, now on sale.
Janet also loves to read and of course write. As well as short stories she's a published playwright, and her play Mopsy Flopsy and Death has been performed both in the UK and Europe. Being a glass half full person her material often shocks close friends and family.
I've got a story recently published in The Singularity50 collection, now on sale. And I'm currently working on a dark dystopian novel, working title "The Last Normal Day."
Tara Basi is a novelist, playwright and scriptwriter. His work has achieved recognition through national award schemes, with Masterminders being shortlisted for the Novel Prize in 2012. His play "15" was performed at London's Lyric Theater in summer 2014. Two of his short stories have been shortlisted for the Singularity 50 compendium.
Seven at Two Past Five was awarded 4/4 stars at OnlineBooks.Org.
Tara has six novels available.
The Blocks Trilogy
Masterminders

Claire Rye’s self-assessment as an "old-school head banging, vegetarian, nature loving, history fan and sci-fi geek" captures the eclectic nature of her interests and influences.
Understandably, her self-published novels are diverse in genres. Ranging from fantasy, science fiction, mystery to erotica.
Claire’s non-conformist writing style means each book is unpredictable. However, regardless of the category of story, the quirky yet relatable characters and surprising revelations make for a rewarding journey.
Claire Rye started to explore the world of writing in 2015 when her flair for the written word was discovered accidentally. She kept an informal blog while travelling through the United States and Europe. Claire found that her love of the unconventional helped her to look beyond the superficial. She discovered the ability to see ‘the story behind the story’ of the people and places she encountered.
An overwhelmingly positive and excited response to her travel blog triggered a curiosity that lead to an expansion of her story telling.
Claire Rye was born in Sydney Australia and currently lives on the Gold Coast. She continues to travel and develop her writing skills. You can find out more about Claire Rye and her works at www.clairerye.net

Carmen has spent most of her life with ink on her fingers and a dangerously high pile of books and newspapers by her side.
She has worked as a newspaper reporter on two continents and always dreamt of becoming a novelist and screenwriter.
When she found herself crouched under her dining table, typing away on a novel between two earthquakes in Christchurch, New Zealand, she realised she was hooked for life.
The shaken but stirring novel made it to the longlist of the Mslexia competition, and her next book and first mystery, The Case Of The Missing Bride, was a finalist in the Malice Domestic competition in a year without a winner. Since then she has penned several more cozy mysteries, including the Jack and Frances series set in the 1930s.
Carmen now lives in Italy with her human and her four-legged family.

Tom J Hingley, like Noel Coward, writes out of a desperate need for approval. Also like Coward, he can take any amount of criticism, provided it is unqualified praise. He claims that is where the similarity ends and vigorously denies all rumours do to with cravats, smoking jackets and very good sherry. He has had short stories published in Worcester Literary Festival Flash Fiction 2012 and 2018 and has been shortlisted in other writing competitions. He has also had material broadcast on Newsjack BBC Radio 4 Extra in 2017. His Singularity 50 story Eve and Adam, combines interests in science, religion and to paraphrase dear Noel, the strange potency of popular music. The middle initial is said to distinguish him from the rock star of the same name and has nothing to do with literary affectation.

Bethany grew up writing stories. The first one she remembers writing was about her cousin's dog (why not?) and now she's writing about complex women across as many genres as she can.
She studied screenwriting at the University of York where her work was first produced, including her first commissioned short film Shelf Life, and she had several short stories published through one of their student magazines, The Yorker, where she was later Film and TV section editor and Deputy Editor for Content.
Since graduating in 2018, she has been published in sci-fi anthology The Singularity and has co-founded film production company Dark Avenue Film, where another of her scripts in in pre-production. She is absolutely bursting to get more stories out into the world. Watch this space!

5.0 out of 5 stars Science-Fiction (and it's happening now)
There is an advertisement on television at the moment featuring a middle-aged hipster type – let’s call him Hipster Dad – asking questions directly of his own television. Hipster Dad wants to know who is in the programme he is watching; and Telly speaks unto him and tells him. Hipster Dad then wants the living rooms light dimmed, so Telly dims the lights. Then – I tell you, the drama really ramps in this advert – Charming Child scampers into the room and asks for something to eat, so Hipster Dad asks Telly for details of nearby Greek restaurants. And Telly tells him! No wonder Hipster Dad seems in its thrall.
Telly is facilitated with Artificial Intelligence, and it’s On Sale Now! I know there are other such AI-enabled devices available in a range of forms and abilities and usages, and that’s the point – we’re living the AI dream. Today.
So the field of AI is a rich and fertile seam for story telling, because it seems boundless yet immediate and relevant and in our homes, and that is where the beauty, invention and breadth of ‘The Singularity 50’ lies. Fifty varied stories across a wide time span (some feel close, others distant) covering imaginative uses and consequences of AI as it filters into and blends with our lives. There is a fair bit of dystopian vision, but also some counterpoint with stories of a more positive outcome. My favourites are those stories that directly contrast the motives and desires of people with those of AI.
This is a very thought-provoking volume from the Create 50 stable’. It entertains and challenges, and some of the stories and their implications will stay with you after you’ve closed the book.
Finally, returning to the advertisement, and in the spirit of ‘The Singularity 50’: it doesn’t happen on screen but I bet a pound to a pinch that if Telly – or its more advanced successor – demands the blood sacrifice of Charming Child (in the manner of God testing Abraham with Isaac) I bet Hipster Dad wouldn’t hesitate.
Well, he might, but only to ask Telly where the knives are kept.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great selection of sci-fi short stories
A collection of sci-fi stories which look at the rise of technology, in particular, artificial intelligence, over the next 50 years. 50 short stories. What a great idea! I enjoyed this. There was something for everyone. Some of the stories were happy, some sad, some scary and some just really wrong but in a good way!
