Snake Water Kindle Edition
How far would you go to make your fortune…?
Disillusioned drifter Ben Morris arrives in a steamy South American port looking to escape his demons.
But when he runs into a hard-drinking outcast with a love of firearms, a footloose divorcee, and a psychopathic German, he finds himself entangled in a web of murder, corruption and greed.
The remote and mysterious ‘Snake Water’ is rumoured to hold a fortune in raw diamonds, but to reach it the would-be treasure hunters have to cross the volcanic mountain, desert and primeval swamp which defeated the Conquistadores.
Morris finds himself braving snakes, carnivorous crabs, swarms of mosquitoes and rival gangsters.
But it could be his travelling companions who provide the greatest danger.
And as they reach their ultimate destination, any of them could be expendable…
SNAKE WATER is a classic political thriller full of deadly twists and turns that will keep you hooked to the very last page.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2015Serious Alan Williams Fan! The first book I read of his was the fantastic "Holy of Holies"(see my review). It introduced me to the character, Rhodesian mercenary, Sammy Ryderbeit. "Holy of Holies" was absolutely, high-flying swashbuckling adventure and incredibly prescient of events that are happening in the Middle East right now! In that story, they pull a job using 5 or 6 C-130 aircraft. Then I found out this character appeared in three other other books before this, "Snake Water" (1st app) & "Tale of the Lazy Dog"(2nd app) and "Shak Mak" (or "A Bullet for the Shah) Ryderbeit was never the primary character, but his character is so intriguing, you always waiting for him to appear! He is a total sociopathic, amoral, brilliant pilot who can fly ANYTHING meant to leave the ground with an engine. BUT YOU ROOT FOR HIM!!! Great run of books and this intro to Ryderbeit was a great adventure. Takes place in the jungles of South America on the hunt for a fortune in precious stones. Make sure you check them all out! They're all great, old school, adventure stories!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 201711% in and the scanning issues have become glaring. There is no way an e-book of 200 pages that cost $7.99 should have this many scanning issues! Ostara Publishing should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for releasing this without have had it proofread; this is especially true for a book originally published in 1965 which should not go for more than $2.99 as an e-book. People who want to read Alan Williams' Snake Water would be better off buying a used copy, which is a true shame as Ostara Publishing is bringing back some thrillers that this reader would love to read on his Kindle.

4.0 out of 5 stars still going strong
I read this book when it was first published and out of curiosity and a practice of rereading some of my old favourites, I read it again 50 years later. It is still up to scratch as a thriller set in exotic and deadly country. The author's foreign experience is applied expertly to the plot without being overbearing. The twists and turns and satisfying ending speak of intelligent thriller writing.
