- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2016Star Brigade: Resurgent (Star Brigade #1) by C.C. Ekeke is a good old fashion space opera sci-fi! It started a bit slow but picked up and didn't slow down. I myself kind of liked the Korvenite mind powers esp. when the big shot was able to dismantle the ship to get the prisoners free just with the power of his mind. I thought that even Yoda or Darth Vader couldn't do that! I enjoyed the book because the fights and action well written and characters well developed. There were plenty of different aliens and the author should the way that some were treated unfairly. The main character also had a child with him and this was interesting because it put a new spin on the story, he had to keep himself together for the child since they just lost his wife/child's mother. Plot with lots of twists and a few surprises. Great job! I received this book for a honest review and I am glad I had the chance!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2017I read a number of indie authors and am always on the lookout for a great story. Star Brigade -Resurgent started off slowly- very slowly and it was bit before there was some understanding of who was who and what was what. This could have been solved with a few paragraphs of back story but about a quarter of the way in the story line started to pick up speed. Some what of a classic space opera but with some twists. A bit lacking in depth of character development but that maybe addressed in upcoming books. I am intrigued enough to purchase the next book in the series Maelstrom and the anthologies in Odysseys. The author has talent and great potential.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2019There are certain things I get and don’t get with this author - He spent so much time coming up with so much detail. For example instead of hours this universe uses orvs. Instead of meters it used metrids. But every once and a while inches and minutes will slip in and the whole card house falls down...... It is a good story some decent char’s unfortunately I found it a tedious read - usually I can get through a sci-fi book in two nights this one took me two weeks to get through. I would highly suggest trying a sample of this work before you commit to buying it like I did.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2016While it takes a little getting used the new universe, the characters and story seem well developed, and it is encouraging that several very differing groups of people are working together, against the 'enemy'. There is obviously a fair amount of history that must be learned and understood, in order to fully understand the complete story. I can anticipate that the series could go on for many books, with at least two different possible long term goals: One is that in the end, every problem that currently exists, will be worked out, and everyone will live happily ever after; the other one would be that no matter what is tried, that there will always be "The Enemy".
I appreciate that near the beginning, there is reference to Deity. That helps create a feeling of a possible parallel world. In fact, for those that believe that a deity, or God, is just a figment of man's imagination, and really has nothing to do with someone that is in control of the Universe, then the second idea would seem to be the most reasonable thing to expect.
On the other hand, for those that believe that we are actually children of God, and His ultimate purpose is to provide an opportunity for His children (all of us) to learn how to become like Him, and learn how to handle the responsibility that He has, then the first option is the obvious choice. That is, that all problems can be worked out. and that after we have learned all that must be learned, will, in our own area, repeat the plan, by creating our own world(s), and being the God of our own millions of spirit children.
I personally believe and hope that this is the real story.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2016I am enjoying this book immensely. At this point I am nearly 4/5 of the way through and the only real complaint I have is that as in many novels and films that include alien species (intelligent or not) the ones in this book are much to earthlike. I don't believe it detracts from my enjoyment much as even main stream authors usually don't bother delving into the differences in thought processes and reactions that would be a result from totally divergent evolutions. Other then that this book grabbed and held my interest and when I turn my Kindle off I immediately star thinking about when I can turn it back on, And I look forward to getting the next book in the series. Since I am horrible in trying to give a book review stating the aforementioned is the best way I can promote my encouragement to read this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2016It's more than just a military sci-fi, There is politics involved throughout, extreme fanatics, flawed people of all species, drama, space battles, group battles, hand-to-hand fights, mental conflicts, moral conundrums, love interest, coming of age problems, and the conflict of a now single parent trying to balance duty and honor in his military life with the needs of his son. In civilian life, family comes first. If the job interferes you can quit or change jobs. In the military, your military duty comes first, and family comes second. My son was deployed when his son was born. He was in the field for 30 days while anniversaries, birthdays, and other special events happened without him, so I understand the main characters conflict about going back into the service. His men need him, and his son needs him. What does he need, and should he even count his needs compared to his sons? The writer is so effective at explaining the differing points of view, that you can't help routing for the terrorist as well as the victims. Even has you wondering which is which. I especially enjoyed the young dancer who was bought out of slavery and performs in the bar. It took a while to get all the characters straight, but then I really got into the story. Having Psi powers just made it better for me. If you like lots of action, then this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars And now, to top it all, I've got withdrawal symptoms. Well done, C.C.Ekeke, you've got yourself and your fiction a new follower!
I picked C.C.Ekeke's view as a light read to help me through 18hours of travel - and it didn't disappoint. The characters are great, the story line imaginative, it's packed with action, and it has echoes of some of the best sci-fi I've read (and I'm sure C.C.Ekeke has read too) none the least my old fave Star Trek.
I was awed at this author's imagination, and at his mind's workings. How he creates worlds. How he creates new words, exploring the in-between the lines -- and the behind-the-words! All in all a fascinating read, unputdownable, an amazing surprise at the quality of this indie author (despite a few very minor kinks that did not detract that much from the book for me). I liked the book so much that I didn't feel the hours go by, was annoyed every time I had to interrupt my reading, and got to my destination in next to no time (or so it seemed).
And now, to top it all, I've got withdrawal symptoms. Well done, C.C.Ekeke, you've got yourself and your fiction a new follower!

5.0 out of 5 stars Star Brigade: Resurgent ------ Great Story!
Star Brigade: Resurgent was a bit of a surprise. I was expecting the normal in space novel with the almost same-o same-o story line....but it is far from that. The ambiance of the story, the main characteres all have a continuous flow and the story line keeps you enthralled.
I would recommend this book and author to others looking for for a good space odessey saga.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Anyone can believe in something"
This, the first book in what promises to be a truly epic science fiction series, is slow to get into, initially, as the reader is skillfully introduced to the host of new worlds and protagonists, some human, many not, which will inhabit the future books. Not an easy task - imagine Game of Thrones writ really, really large. After all, there's a whole multiverse out there. But with good descriptive writing, and a fair amount of action, the disparate peoples, their homeworlds, beliefs, fears and intentions slowly coalesce into a great wave which will surely break over the many occupied planets, bringing death and destruction. So get this book now to find out who is who before the War which is coming...
