Steamroller is a standalone Contemporary MM Romance. HEA. Shorter read. Sports romance. Sweet and cute. Insta-attraction. Opposites attract. Trigger warnings: Receiving a significant physical injury, Being abandoned by your birth family.
1 POV, 3rd person, past tense. 120 pages. This Kindle edition 5 July 2021.
This oldie was repubbed and it had a hot Reese Dante cover added. It was a great reread. I wish I'd reread it ages ago! It's short, sweet and cute and advances at a very fast pace toward the end. The story's about 2 young students who fall headlong for each other. The other, the jock, suffers a bad injury and that's it for his dad's dreams of his sports career. What felt a bit unrealistic was the ease of adjustment in future plans if we stop to consider it realistically, but it fit with what else we saw of his character full of speed and determination. This one's a fast and easy read, not very long one. It works as it is. It's sweet enough to be a comfort-read. A very nice reread.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2022I throughly enjoyed this... It felt like a fast ride into Vince and Carson's life and it was a good ride. Loved the storyline and how it culminated in the end and i loved the HEA. Always enjoy books from Mary Calmes
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2024Calmes is one of my favorite authors. Short stories or
novels are very difficult to write. How do you create a world in very few pages? In many ways it is far harder than a longer book where you can take your time with character development. This is a great example of how to do it well. At the end if the book I felt like I knew more about the characters then was reflected in the number of pages.
The story is about 2 very young men, one who has been openly gay and another slightly older one who is a star athlete discovering his sexual preferences. It touches on the serious issues that coming out may result in, from parental desertion to stereotypes about what a gay male acts and looks like in competitive sports.
While I love her longer series of books, this remains a great example of how to tell a fully fleshed out tale in fewer pages. There are some steamy scenes but not to excess.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2022This was the second book I read after finding out about Mary Calmes and one of the books I can always read again. I would love to read more about Vince & Carson if she ever decides add to their narrative.
This is a wonderfully light story that still makes you care about the couple and get lost in their story.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2021I liked the story of this book but the way it was written was kind of hard to follow. The hook up scenes were HOT but the writing flow of the book was rough and I had to re read a bunch of times. Overall it was okay to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2022I just love this superfast romance ! Vince and Carson are delightful together and this whole story is very sweet!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2023Mary revised this book. I'm so glad she did. This had more depth and explained Carson more. Also, Kurt Butler has more depth to his character, too.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2022Goodness this story was so good I literally did not want it to end and found myself feeling sad when I realized it was a novella. The book title “Steamroller” is perfect. The chemistry, fire and electricity between Vince and Carter was written beautifully. Once they connected there was no turning back and Vince was truly steamrolled into his HEA. Gosh I wish there was a book 2!!! 😩❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing.
It was short and sweet but not missing anything like I find a lot of short stories are.
I love the not quite happy endings and this was perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mmmmm.
Carson and Vince, the title is spot on and Carson is absolutely convinced that Vince is the one. It takes a lot of fast talking to get Vince to agree that they are in love and when both guy's physically connect its spontaneous combustion! I'm not gonna lie I wish there had been a epilogue as it seemed to need it but at least you get the hea.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most apt name for this book!!!
If you have never read a book by Mary Calmes, your life is empty and bleak, every single book is unmissable, every single character is a dear friend, you will never regret reading a single book, you will be hooked forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great
typical Mary Calmes book with all the feels and heat but shorter, wished it was longer but appreciate the frequent book release.

1.0 out of 5 stars A waste of time
A waste of time and nothing else. No plot to speak of. No story to tell. Superficial to an extreme. And boring too. No recomendation from my side. Zero stars, if possible. This book is the first and last title by this author that I have to endure. I almost did not finish.
