Still The One (Love, Laughter, and Shenanigans) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 37 ratings

Looking for hot chemistry and witty banter? Do you love an enemies to lovers romance wrapped around a second chance at love story with a marriage of convenience hidden inside? Then STILL THE ONE is what you've been waiting for.

Burke Winslow needs a wife. He stands at the altar, ready to marry his business partner in a marriage of convenience. He knew the minister would ask: “If anyone here knows why this man and this woman should not be joined in holy matrimony, let him speak now or forever hold his peace.” But he never expected a rain-soaked, bedraggled woman to shout, “Stop the wedding!” But that’s not just any woman. That’s his ex-wife Ally.

What follows is a funny, sexy romp that proves when there's love, passion never dies, it just smolders away until you toss some gasoline on it. In this steamy romance, Burke and Ally are the fuel that ignites those smoldering embers. They’re forced to confront their past and the unfinished business between them.

His cagey grandfather pulls Burke’s strings, and her equally sneaky grandmother manipulates Ally. Toss in a pretend boyfriend for Ally, and Burke’s scorned business partner left at the altar to make for complete chaos.

Can Burke and Ally stop fighting long enough to peel away the layers of the past and discover the truth and realize there's more than anger between them? Will the truth free them or put them asunder?

Joan Reeves, Writing Happily Ever After—Time After Time, is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Romance. Regardless of the sub-genre, all of her novels have the same underlying premise: "It's never too late to live happily ever after. Her novels have been published in half a dozen languages, and her books are available in audio, ebook, and print.

NOTE: Since Joan has been writing for several years and had print books published with many publishers—American and foreign—be sure you choose a print book with a copyright date after 2011 because Amazon shows all of her old print books here. (Authors have no control over this.) The new print editions have been expanded and show new cover art.

When not writing romance—or nonfiction to share what she has learned in life—Joan divides her time between the hustle and bustle of Houston and a house in the Texas Hill Country where she and her hero, her husband, sit on the porch at night, look at the star-studded sky, and listen to the coyotes howl.

Ally Fletcher and Burke Winslow have a shared past, a marriage when they were young and unprepared to handle the responsibilities of a grownup relationship. Now Burke is getting married again, but there's a sudden hitch to his plan. A divorce he thought was finalized six years ago apparently didn't happen, and he finds himself standing at the altar, facing a past he's never been able to forget.

Still the One is another enjoyable read from Joan Reeves' Lingerie Series. Her hallmark humor is very much in evidence, but as with her other stories, there's an underlying warmth that gives her characters depth and her story meaning. She's got me hooked! I'm now off to read Jane I'm Still Single Jones.

This was a book that I enjoyed so much. It made me laugh so loud, that my family thought I'd gone completely crazy. I have read several of Joan Reeves books in the past and I have enjoyed every single one. They are so easy to read, that I'm positive that you'll find yourself zipping through them in no time. And by the way....they'll find a way to make you feel a little happier and your heart a lot less heavy from your day to day stress.

STILL THE ONE is a hilarious fast-paced romance that will make you laugh out loud from the first page. Ally is a lovely, spontaneous, a bit naive heroine, but she's determined to hold her ground and prove to her ex that she's changed into a successful career woman. Except that Burke's presence totally disorients her because... Well she can't tell him why of course. As to Burke, he can't believe his reaction to Ally, even when she spoils his wedding ceremony, even when... You'll have to read the book if you want to laugh and enjoy this entertaining story and its witty dialogues. I've already bought more ebooks by Joan Reeves.

I knew I was taking a risk in getting a 99 cent romance novel, and this book goes to show that you get what you pay for. I read the plot summary and thought it could be passable. Young couple gets married and then divorced ... or so they think. Older, wiser and so much more mature young woman shows up at the critical moment to break up what turns out to be a sham of a wedding. Young couple decide to pose as married for sake of business pursuit. Really, there are only so many plausible scenarios in which to throw an unlikely couple into circumstances which make it impossible to escape each other and therefore fall madly in love, after having shown each other their deepest and truest selves by mere virtue of proximity. For the sake of new reading material, I was willing to test the waters of an old story told in a (hopefully) new way.

Sadly, I found the waters somewhat soggy and damp. I quit reading the book 37% of the way through. If you had any idea of the kind of crap I have been willing to slog my way through for even one interesting element of the book - plot, character development, wordsmithing - this fact would be more meaningful. The first blow to my endurance was struck when the heroine tells us how the sight of her wedding ring "still brought a tear to her eye." When she asks "Did he remember the nights of passion they shared?" I had to put the Kindle down. The story is lame. There is no imagery. The prose is trite and skims over the surface of any real story or character development. In short, I could not find a single element of this book that could encourage me to read any further.
