Captain Gerber leads a Special Forces team on a top-secret mission…

Vietnam, 1968

U.S. Army Special Forces
Captain Mack Gerber and Master Sergeant Anthony B. Fetterman are dispatched to Nui Ba Den to destroy the NVA base.

Meanwhile, an American delegation reviewing the recent Tet offensive heads into the combat zone to inspect the Special Forces camps around Nui Ba Den – where a deadly enemy ambush awaits them.

Can Gerber and his Green Berets reach them in time to prevent a civilian bloodbath?

Or will the congressional convoy make headlines for all the wrong reasons?

I enjoyed reading STRIKE by Eric Helm - the 3rd book in the series. In this book, the author writes along four different storylines: The senator and his group who want to discredit the military and vows to prove that NV was victorious during the TET offensive, the NVA lieutenant, newly arrived from the North and content in staying in the caves, the American lieutenant who is confident about the build-up outside of Nui Ba Den, deciding to take it upon himself to prove it, and Capt. Gerber / SFC Fetterman who try to prevent a disaster.

I was with the 25th Division after TET and the Black Virgin Mountain was always predominantly seen anywhere within our area of operations. At that time, it was said that the mountain is so honeycombed with tunnels and caves that a large bomb in a specific place would collapse it all into a pile of dirt.

The author does a wonderful job at telling each of the four stories and then having them all come together at the end...each to its own fate. The story is a real page-turner and worth reading. This is the 3rd book of the 5-book series, and I enjoyed each of them so far. Book 4 is now downloaded and ready to continue the saga. Recommended for anyone interested in the Vietnam War and special operations during the war.

A good read for a veteran of that tie period.

Third book in the series, full of action with interesting characters. It is sad to see how the politicians lost the war. The soldiers won the battles and Washington lost the war. Reading curt name war stories it is always nice to see the professional soldier at his finest. Can't wait to read number four.

Although this is a work of fiction in my mind it parallels the difficulties the military faced in this 20 year war. Very difficult to win a war when you can't be certain if those in your camp are friend or foe, you have the news media bending the truth and half of the country against the war. This is well written and the characters make the story gel.

As the world turns the news is distorted to protect the rich, the officers, the politicians. Vietnam was a gross waste of human lives, especially the lives of the US men and women who died for nothing, just plain old BS.
    Rock on!

As I stated with my review, there is why to much fluff.
Eric will take two or more paragraphs just to describe a room.

Headline grabbing Senator has his convoy shot up by NVA because he was trying to use Vietnam's Tet Offensive to further his career.

Written by two men who took part in the war and (although fiction), tell it like it was. One of a great series of books. Excellent.
