SUMMER SECRETS : Steamy beach holiday romance (Scarlet Bay Romance Book 2) Kindle Edition
But Cam wants his boy much more than Jossy suspects.
He’s a player, a charmer, a big confident sportsman, and used to winning. Jossy will be a pushover for his alpha wiles. Or will she? It sticks in his gut to be forced to play nice with the bitter, beautiful lawyer but it’s impossible to leave her alone.
Soon he knows he must re-assess everything he’d assumed about her, and everything he thought he wanted in his own casual, freewheeling life. They’re total opposites from different worlds, but their attraction is scorching. Surely there’s no way Jossy can stay grumpy in the face of his unrelenting sunshine?
SUMMER SECRETS is the second standalone novel in the Scarlet Bay Romance series. Buy it now and enjoy a beach holiday with two memorable people who just might be perfect together.

About the author

Thanks for coming to meet me. I love words, and I use them to make the world a happier place by creating people who are perfect for each other – although maybe they can’t see that to start with.
I began writing at my local radio station in New Zealand and never stopped. TV followed, then horticultural articles (because I'm a keen gardener). After several advertising agencies, I then spent happy years as a retail ad manager. Totally hooked on fabrics, I surprised everyone by going into the curtain installation business with my husband and working for some of the capital city’s top designers. Good for my body, and it freed up my brain to write fiction. I didn't fall off my ladder once through drifting into romantic dreams, but I’ve certainly seen many beautiful homes and met wonderful people, and I may just have stolen glimpses of them for the books. (I didn’t say that, did I?)
I write sexy contemporary romance under my real name and the Merry Summerfield cozy mysteries as Kristie Klewes. These are funny and flirty and absolutely clean. (Well - apart from the bloodstains!)
I’m the author of more than thirty novellas and novels, three of which were finalists in New Zealand’s Clendon Award. Each can be read as a stand-alone, but some make up linked series. I hope you enjoy them all.
My more recent romances are billionaire beach stories about the wealthy Wynn family in Scarlet Bay - Summer Sparks, Summer Secrets, and Summer Spice. And the new Promise books - Promise You Nothing and Promise You Plenty.

Kris es una chispeante autora de romántica contemporánea, pura y simplemente. ¡Bueno, quizá no tan pura!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2017OMG I LOVED THIS STORY. I love a book that grabs me in the first paragraph and holds on tight to the very end. I was one of the millions that downloaded THE BOAT BUILDER'S BED and I have been a HUGE van of Ms. Pearson ever since. She writes a GREAT hero, usually a working man but a sense of humor, a great body and TERRIFIC in bed. The heroines are smart, independent and sexy as heck. The story always takes you in and you start believing these people are real, the surroundings exist and you want to be friends with them just to be a part of their wonderful existence. I absolutely adore this author.
the story starts off with the hero being in court trying to win visiting rights to his son. I will admit that this whole plotline made me want to strangle someone. The conception of the child was not a loving relationship situation. it was a conniving woman that wanted to latch on to a rich man and then have him pay for the next 16 years so she can live off her investment. these women are everywhere unfortunately and it is the poor children that pay the price of being a pawn. Sadly, the heroine is her lawyer and she only sees one side. She is constantly blaming him for not keeping it in his pants. NO CONDEMNATION for the mother being a barfly looking to catch some sucker that thinks with his little head at the moment of hitting the sheets. SHE should be held equally responsible but that is rarely the case. Enough on the soap box. the story is a GREAT one.
It is definitely about these two discovering they don't really know as much as they think they do. Judging without all the facts, or facts that you think are true but aren't is not a good thing. lessons for us all. The story is about how they find a way to each other. A great romance and his determination to get what he truly wants. She is hiding a dark secret that is more her own emotional problem than an issue for him. You have to love this guy, all 6'3" of him. He is fun, sexy as all get out, determined and loving. OMG I could just eat him up!! Boy if New Zealand were really full of these kinds of guys I would be moving!! The best heroes come out of New Zealand.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I found it fun, sexy (if steamy is a problem for you, be advised. For me, it made the story more true to what really goes on in life-at least with really happy couples)_ A great read and I DEFINITELY recommend it. you cannot go wrong with any of Ms. Pearson's books.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/4/17
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2019Another great story from Kris Pearson! This story had been sitting on my Kindle so long that it still had the original title "Hard to Resist" which I started as soon as I bought it. Once I started up again it was hard to put down. Cam and Jossy were such a fun couple to really dig into - Jossy had so many hang ups that went back to her 17 year old self and it was fun to see the way Cam got her to dream of a future that she couldn't see herself seeking.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2019I really enjoyed the beginning of this off-limits relationship. This is two people you could never believe would get together with two people who couldn’t be more opposite personalities. This book will keep you on your toes for when the ill-fated inevitable will happen. Kris Pearson is a great writer of the afternoon reads.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2017Cam is a bolshie dissatisfied man, screwed over by a lawyer and stymied from following his true calling by his family. He doesn't quite realise it, but he is spoiling for a fight. And find it he does when he accepts an invitation from his best friend Jason and his girlfriend Anna to join them for dinner with Anna's sister Jossy - the very lawyer who screwed him over and unfairly slapped a restraining order on him. The first quarter of Kris Pearson's second Scarlet Bay book is devoted to the interaction during dinner between Cam and Jossy. The dialogue is superb and the antagonism is immediate, spiky and barbed with unwelcome attraction.
Cam is ready for a bit of romantic fooling around but Jossy, while wishing she could indulge in a shallow fling, has a secret and is too buttoned up to trust easily. What follows if the peeling of the onion. As the layers hiding Jossy's secret begin to unravel, Cam finds he has to question his own restless attitude to relationships and to his dreams for his own farm. Unable to resist Cam's light hearted flirting, Jossy's buttoned up attitude is worn down. As she cautiously dips her toe into the uncharted waters of flirting she finds she cannot have a romantic fling and keep her nasty secret.
Ms Pearson's writing has developed since her last Scarlet Bay book. Written in deep point of view, the characters take on a life of their own. When I am with Cam I feel his frustration with Bossy Jossy. When I am with Jossy I agree she should clout Cam if he calls her "darlin' " one more time. What particularly delighted me was finding Hard to Resist is written in simultaneous time with Hard to Regret. The relationship with Jason and Anna is unfolding at the same time as Jossy and Cam are finding their way. Both books are stand alone stories but it makes the reader part of the inner circle of confidants to these characters. Part of the family, so to speak. It was a nice touch.
This is another of Ms Pearson's good reads. I can highly recommend it for all the right reasons: Fab characters, great storyline, yummy heart-thumping romantic bits, and a HEA which is real. You know they are going to be HEA, but you also know there will be some tough times ahead - just enough to make this read feel 'right'.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful story
I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Joss and Cam. Joss had a terrible accident when she was seventeen, which has left her body very badly scarred, and she is unable to have children. As a result she has assumed that any man would find her ugly and useless. Cam is invited to dinner at her apartment by her sister Anna. He realises that Joss is the lawyer who has cost him a fortune and ensured that he cannot see his child. He had refused to marry the mother Rosie, and the ill feeling between them had spiralled out of control. Joss does not realise who he is, and Cam is out for revenge, acting like a total jerk. But even though they find each other totally irritating there is an attraction between them that neither can ignore.
Despite various problems and issues their attraction grows, and Joss wants to know about her scars. She tells him the story, but doesn't mention that she cannot have children. She still thinks they are only temporary, he will want a family; so she decides to go away to Paris to do a cookery course. Cam persuades her to see a plastic surgeon first, to have her scarring sorted out, he points out that all of it was done to save her life, not to make her beautiful again. He is cross that nobody ever explained to her that it could be done, while she regarded her scars as her punishment for disobeying her parents.
Kris Pearson writes well-rounded characters you can believe in, these two are delightful, their insecurities feel very real, and their characters fit together well. The plans that Cam makes for their happy ever after while Joss is away studying her cookery course and thinking nothing will come of their relationship, are absolutely delightful. He has found out about her inability to have children, and has thought out a perfect, and relatively easy solution, because he realises that is her dream. But he has done a great deal more for her, you will need to read the book to find out what!
An excellent story with the feel-good factor in abundance. Well worth reading.
