I have been looking forward to this book since I had finished the first book in the series, with which I was wowed. This is a well done alternative history sure to intrigue anyone that has those "what if" questions about how things might be different if the course of history had run differently. This was well plotted out, each action having an impact on the new course, and the time traveler's paradox of "what happens if I kill an ancestor" was handled wonderfully. If a person loves Scottish history they will not be disappointed by the depth of this. The romances also were well done, neither over the top nor inadequately touched on.

I truly hope he intends to write more books. I would love another series from him. In the storyline one of the characters mentioned that maybe there were other places in the world with wounds to fix. There are so many points in history that also might lead to that last dreadful red sky, or to other possible scenarios. This was one of those books that really brings home those two words: what if?

This fantastic and thought-provoking novel is steeped in deep emotion and set in the glorious Scottish Highlands. Through time travel, a futuristic Armageddon, war-torn lovers, weaponry from various periods, and really great characters, the author drops us at the cusp of a pivotal eighteenth century battle that completely altered the course of Scottish history. He then asks, What if this battle had ended differently? The thing I loved most about this story was that the author did not gloss over the cost or consequences of rewriting the past, but rather brought them front and center, allowing them to play out. The ending was quite surprising. I recommend this to anyone who loves sci-fi, romance, historical fiction, or just a really great read!

Whoa! I can finally stop and breathe. I can now get back to my honey-do's and chores. I almost missed paying this month's bills. All thanks to Bob's wonderful and intriguing story.
I had read the original story " The Last Sunset", so was eager to read the sequel. I kept bugging Bob about when it would come out since I had enjoyed the original so much.
This sequel was well worth the wait. I'll be booking a trip to Scotland in the near future. Bob is magical putting the reader right into the story. His descriptions of Andy showing Longholme how to use the rife is a classical example of great writing.
Thanks Bob, you really know how to tell (write) a remarkable story.

Red Sky in The Morning is a powerful story. The author combines time travel and historical events in an engaging narrative. Halfway through the book, I could smell smoke from a peat fire, see the rain coming in from over the hills, taste fresh stew, hear the gathering of the Clans, and feel the fear of a coming battle. Great second book. I look forward to the authors next epic.

I thrilling adventure, full of love and adventure in a land blessed with a new timeline. A great read, buy this book!!! If I could give it a 6 Star review I would!! It has it all; time travel, romance, great characters, military action and bad assed guns from the present used against Colonial troops!!

In the prequel, 'The Last Sunset', people vanished from their own time, reappearing in 1746. These intrepid time travelers changed history with their presence. A key event in the Scots timeline never happened.
Now, in 'Red Sky in the Morning', a new reality emerges; a new dawn for Scotland.
How would Scots history play out if the Battle of Culloden had never happened? Would the changes affect the world stage – then, now, and in the future?
In these pages, you’ll live in a world, almost 270 years ago, when the presence of English troops in the Highlands meant danger and death. Life was hard in their beautiful land, but to the Highlanders, this was their home. The time travelers brought changes, but were the changes for the better? The Highlanders risk everything so they might know.
Will our world get a second chance?
In his sequel to ‘The Last Sunset’, Mr. Atkinson weaves a thought-provoking alternate reality for his beloved Scotland. The vivid scenes he paints will take you there, where you’ll witness the struggle that could change everything. I hope we see more from this talented author and storyteller in the near future.
Mr. Atkinson and Red Sky in the Morning receive a second 5-Star rating.

I'll be honest, I have been waiting for this sequel ever since I finished 'The Last Sunset' and was torn between overwhelming excitement and a certain amount of fear to have the 2nd book in my hands. Well, that fear was unfounded. This author, who had already mastered his craft, has taken his writing to another level; not only in developing the plot and action, which in this installment reaches its dizzying conclusion, but the relationships between the characters and even the characters knowledge of themselves as they grow and are tested in this dangerous new world. Be prepared for sleepless nights as you will struggle to put this book down! Also be prepared for tears as I challenge you not to fall in love with these characters, but remember this is war and blood will be spilt! But its not all doom and gloom as Mr Atkinson, like all great authors, manages to keep us laughing as often as we gasp. I loved this book and I really hope we see more novels from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Andy is still on guard............
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 13, 2016
I had the fortune of not having to wait to read this sequel to The Last Sunset and I have just a few minutes ago finished the novel. In this instalment I felt that I was permitted to become better accquainted with all the characters introduced in the first novel and I found myself being entranced by their flaws and accepting most of them regardless, admiring their attributes with hope . I did not think this would be the case as most novels have a bad guy who we can seethe at and express delight in their demise. Here, we are always anticipating that the character's true nature has presented itself and prevails to correct mistakes and save the future for all in the bravest and most brutal fashion. I'll stop there before I have to say "Spoiler", but this book was a joy to read as was its companion piece.

I do have to point out, the sky this evening was a gorgeous mixture of reds and I found myself whilst walking thinking of how this novel was going to end.... I wondered would Sam, Shawnee, Andy etc be forever travelling the red mist correcting humanity's mistakes?

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another fantastic tale from this author. NOT TO BE MISSED!

Was originally asked to pre-read this book before it's launch. IT REALLY IS SUPERB!
Again Bob Atkinson takes the reader on a journey to the Scottish Highlands in this fabulous sequel to 'The Last Sunset.' The characters stuck in a time they do not belong, they find themselves again faced with a perilous world of war. There are some real tear jerking moments in this book. I even found myself feeling sorry for a character I wasn't that keen on in 'Sunset.' Without giving the plot away, Andy (my favourite) faces the thought of never going back to his own time, will his love for a woman win over his pull to get home somehow?
This story is thrilling, It took only days to read, I forgot what was on TV! This author is an amazing writer, a well deserved 5 stars for 'Red Sky in the Morning!'

Having thoroughly enjoyed the first book, The Last Sunset, I was looking forward to reading more about the characters I had come to love. With Red Sky in the Morning I was not disappointed. Evocative Jacobite adventures in an alternative Scottish history - Bob's style of writing is engaging, and makes for an enjoyable read. Rich description, lively dialogue and a great plot twist with an inventive ending means I really do look forward to more from this author. Highly recommended!
