V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her mama over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied filmmaking and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn't happen.

Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it.

When she is not writing, she can be found with her friends doing all sorts of crazy things or reading recent romance books that were written by her favorite authors.

    I am so undecided as to how to rate this book. It started out as a solid 5+ star rating. It grips you from the very beginning because of the way it starts out. You feel the h's heartache and despair; her fear and hopelessness. And it maintains this intensity and edge through most of the story. The emotional turmoil these characters go through feels real and believable.

    There's a pattern in the story telling where certain events are not told in real-time...meaning the actual event is revealed in detail as someone's memory sometime after it actually occurred. In most cases, it played well into the storyline, heightening emotions, angst and keep you guessing or wondering. In others, I would have preferred to have the events revealed in real time, but only in one case did it ruin the intensity of emotions for me and that was at the very end.

    How so? Well, in the last chapter, when you get to the final showdown; the reveal of and confrontation with the serial killer, it ends in a sort of cliff hanger. The author intimates something has occured and you're thinking where the heck is my HEA? Only to get an epilogue that takes place 15 yrs later which drags out the intimation in the last chapter until almost the end then you just get one of those memories of what actually happened in a very brief fashion. As such you lose all the emotion of the story. I think I would have preferred to read it in real-time...it could have, and probably would have, had the same intensity of emotions that this book started out with....choked up with a baseball-sized lump in your throat and probably even tears! For this reason only I gave it 4 1/2 stars instead of 5.

    That being said, it really was a great story! It is an edge of your seat, constantly guessing (or trying to) thriller with really intense emotions.

Her husband leaves her in the cruelest of ways unbeknownst to him that she is pregnant with their child. Zach, who is filled with remorse, comes to the aid of Phoenix. events unfold, many truths are revealed and the Unsub is unmasked. Why was Phoenix targeted. Why is Zach? Can the two find any semblance of happiness. Will Phoenix be able to once again practice medicine? Will forgiveness win out? And what of Zachary’s daughter, Emmaline? Where does she fit into the carrying puzzles?
    MS Mason has once again written a book with complex characters who are determined not just to survive but to live. She takes readers o the journey of forgiveness, love, the unmasking of the Unsub and the reasons why the person acted as the Unsub does. All of the various links are important to the flow of this story. Can Zach and Phoenix make it to the “Land where Sinners Atone”? Happiest of reading. More than 5 stars.

    Just what you'd expect from this author - it's dark.
    Phoenix loses everything framed by a psychopath for a vile crime her friends, career, baby, husband and freedom.
    Zach is the devil who mourning the loss of his wife causes Phoenix's incarnation to become a living nightmare. And that's just the first couple of chapters!
    An unlikely love story that is intense and passionate delivered in midst of the psychopath wanting revenge and a shared past neither of them realized.

    Finished in a couple days because I couldn’t put it down. Really enjoyed it though some concepts I didn’t fully agree with. Overall the story was captivating and I had a NEED to read it until the last word. I enjoyed the main character but wished she had more of a backbone, although the decisions made were very calculated and physiological based, so it fit with the character well.
