Tell Me Goodnight Kindle Edition
This is the story of how I fell in love with a broken man and his three little princesses. It is tragic, but it is true. And with truth, there is almost always tragedy.
Tessa Lang has dreams of becoming the world's next great author of horror novels. So, when she's given the opportunity to write full-time, she sets out to do just that.
There's just one little problem.
She's not scary. At all.
It seems that her plans are ruined, until she meets heartbroken pianist, Jon O'Dell and his three little girls. Suddenly, she finds herself full of inspiration, and with the advice from her grandmother and best-selling novelist, M.L. Lang, Tessa decides to write what her heart wants - romance.
But as her novel moves steadily along, relationships start to develop, and Jon's heart begins to mend, Tessa finds herself facing another unexpected dilemma.

About the author

Kelsey Kingsley is an author of angsty, emotional, character driven romance novels. She lives in New York with her family and a cat named Ethel. She loves music, makeup, tattoos, and watching Frasier reruns. Kelsey is a Slytherin. She also curses a lot but won't apologize for it.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFirst of all, read the note from the author at the beginning of this book, because, WOW. And yes, Ms. Kingsley, this is definitely one of those books for me. I flew through the pages, all the while trying desperately to draw out the reading, to dwell in the emotion, to savor living in these words, and hoping upon hope that it would never end. Kingsley isn’t simply an author. She's a poet and a master composer, and her words plucked the chords of my heart in a beautiful, haunting, unforgettable symphony. If you don’t like long reviews, I’ll tell you now: get this unique, stunning, life-changing book today!
This is not your carefree, light hearted romance. It’s so much better, greater and more than that. It’s raw and authentic with pain that bleeds off the page and happiness that makes the reader's heart soar to the greatest heights. It’s a realistic depiction of loss that leaves a gaping hole and the guilt of healing and moving on. It's grief so devastating that every day is like slogging through mud, but a healing so precious that it inspires rebirth. It’s the story of one broken soul and one lost soul and the three precious girls that unite these two soul mates.
Jon lost his wife two years ago and every day he struggles just to do the bare minimum. He has to take care of his three young daughters, and he has to continue working for his meager income playing the piano at his brother's bar. Everything else falls by the wayside – his appearance and health at the very bottom of the list. Before he lost his wife, he had dreams of making it big with his music, but that dream doesn’t even make the list these days.
Tessa has moved in with her grandmother, a famous romantic thriller author, to ensure Grandma doesn’t burn down the house in her forgetfulness. The deal is that Tessa lives rent free while working on writing her novel. Its been six month’s and she has zero words written, so she decides to find a job. She has bills to pay, and it will get her out of the house. Maybe interactions with more than Grandma and her regular date, Richard Dawson of Family Feud, will inspire Tessa's writing. And it might feel good to feel needed and wanted, because Grandma's combative personality certainly doesn’t leave Tessa feeling warm and fuzzy.
Tessa spots a help wanted sign for a bartender and decides to apply. While she's filling out the application and trying to fabricate a work history, she’s befriended by the most adorable four-year-old princess. Fast forward a few weeks, and Tessa is babysitting Jon's girls and falling way too far for this broken man, who's still in love with his dead wife, and his three little princesses. But over time, and through a ritual of a shared cup of tea with Jon when he comes home from work, things slowly change. Tessa begins to write, inspired by Jon and his girls. Jon inches closer to moving forward with his life and his long dormant dream finds new life.
There is so much wisdom and insight in these ingenious words that they sucked me in, swirling around me in a vortex of thoughts and feelings and carrying me along the dips and swells of the characters experiences and emotions so that I lived everything with them along this voyage. With snippets of Tessa's writing and Jon's lyrics that are so beautiful I could hear the melody along with the words, this book consumed me, mesmerized me, filled me and owned me completely. Mere words can never explain and express the impact of this poignant, profound, evocative work.
And if that isn’t enough, we’re gifted with appearances of Devin and his band mates. I adore all of these guys! Devin, the giant teddy bear, Sebastian with his crass humor and irreverence, and Chad and Ty who I can’t wait to learn more about. Jon, Tessa and the girls fit right in with this band family.
More, Ms. Kingsley. I need more! My heart can’t exist without more of these amazing characters! This book is the most unique, exquisite gem in contemporary romance. Rarely does a book come along that touches my heart, stirs my soul and has such a lasting impact. These characters will live in my heart forever, and this book easily takes the #1 spot, at the very top of the list of books I’ve read this year. Get it now. Start reading now. Your heart will soar, your soul will sing, and you absolutely will not be sorry.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI have been a fan of Kelsey Kingsley since her first book, "Holly Freakin' Hughes", and I can honestly say that each book she writes is better than the last...and I'm not sure how that's possible.
Tell Me Goodnight is the story of Jon and Tessa. Tessa is a young woman searching for her inspiration so that she can achieve her dream of being a published author like her famous, and now elderly, grandmother, for whom she is her live-in caregiver. Jon is a widower with three young daughters, a struggling musician who has lost his muse and spark for life. The two meet by chance and what begins as a baby-sitting job turns into more.
One of things I love about Kelsey's writing is her character development. The reader becomes invested in these characters like they are close friends. In addition to our main characters, you will fall in love with the adorable and spunky O'Dell girls, Grandma Lang, Jeff, and our old friends (if you've read "Daises and Devin" or "The Life We Wanted") Devin, Kylie, Sebastian and Tabby, as well as the rest of the band. The bonus epilogue also gives a great lead in to Kelsey's next book about our lovable Chaddington Bear, which I will be anxiously awaiting, as I expect we will get to see a bit more of Jon and Tess as well.
This book is a stand alone, but if you haven't read D&D and TLWW, you'll want to after reading this book. It will leave you inspired, and, if you're like me, you'll be once again awed by Kelsey's ability to make you laugh, cry and love while reading her work.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAbout love, loss, grieving, moving on, healing and all the painful steps in between. Great story. Where you get to see all the in between moments from loss and how it affects people differently. Jon was lost and stuck in a limbo since his wife suddenly died. Not moving forward and not grieving properly. Then Tess can along and turned it all upside down. She was amazing with those girls and they helped bring levity to a touching and moving book. Each were artists in their own way. And each suffered loss and pain. Honestly. I agreed with Jon. Do I think it took it a little far. A smidgen. He wrote what her felt about Beth, about moving on, and Tess and everything. But he never hid it from her he was open. Where as she took his pain and grief from losing his wife and mother of his children and put it in a book. That’s totally not ok. If she had been open about using her experiences meeting the family it would have made the blow not as bad but she hid it all. Loved the ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI do not write a lot of reviews, but I can't help but write one for Kelsey Kingsley's "Tell Me Goodnight". Ms. Kingsley has written a perfect book full of emotion, happiness, sadness, and most of all heart. The love story of Jon and Tess is beautiful and full of such wonderful thoughts. Along with the losses each of these characters experience, there is such happiness in their story. Jon has 3 small children, who are portrayed so wonderfully, and Tess has a Grandmother with whom she is living who is full of wonderful lessons of life. I think the line in the book that spoke to me is, "Moving on doesn't mean letting go." Ms. Kingsley has written a book about life and a wonderful love story. Love between a father and his children, love between a granddaughter and grandmother, and most of all the love between a man and a woman and second chances! I will not be forgetting this book soon and probably will reread it often. The author has done an outstanding job with this book. I don't know how she will ever top it, but I will be looking forward to her next book impatiently. Editing on this book was excellent. Great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tell me I love you, tell me good night
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseYou know when you read a book and it leave big fat imprints of inspiration and emotion on you. This is one of those books me for .
I knew going into this book it was probably going to be emotional , and I was right . Jon and tessas story had me captivated and hooked from the beginning to the end . I loved them .
This is a second chance / slow burn / rock star romance . Jon is a washed up pianist who had tried to make it in the music business but really lost his way when his wife suddenly died leaving him alone with his three children.
And Tess is an aspiring writer living with and caring for her grandmother who , when searching for a part time job falls into a baby sitting job for job only to learn that they could. Both find meaning purpose and healing in eachother .
It’s a beautiful story of learning to move on but not let go . And I loved the whole journey !!
Additionally I love that this story is a part of the Devin O’Leary series . I love that job finds his big break with the O’Leary band and we get a glimpse of the other characters I have previously read and loved !! These characters are such a great fit for this crew. I’m so happy that there is more members of this bunch to read about because they are just so great !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking and Hopeful
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt’s a special book that can be filled with great sorrow and grief and still show you such love and hope. This story is about fate and how meeting the right person at the right time can be the catalyst for moving on, loving again and reaching for your dreams.
I was hooked on this story from the start and it has stayed with me for days after finishing it.
Tessa & Jon were both dealing with their own stages of grief and a chance meeting puts them on a course of healing and eventually happy ever after.
There is a beautiful truth the authors words and I really enjoyed both characters points of view as they battle to open up to each other. The little girls in this book are delightful and real.
Kelsey Kingsley’s books only get get better with each one she releases. This is a spin off of two previous books: Daisies & Devin and The Life We Wanted. Whilst it can be read as a stand-alone there is extra enjoyment to be had by reading the other two stories.

What a joy this was. I loved Tess so much and Jon's girls were perfect characters. I'll need a moment to forgive Jon though. 😤
