- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2014A sweet rags to richest story set in Victorian England, where class distinction is not only accepted but seldom overcome. Kay Seeley's heroine, Tilly has has an amazing spirit! She begins as a water gypsy, from the other side of the docks, homeless, shunned, poor, and hungry. She's also labeled as a thief. People in that time period knew their place and stayed there, with little chance to change their station in life but feisty Tilly is no doormat and she manages to win the love of the lord of the manor, learn a valuable trade that she will turn into her own profitable business and gain a new life but there are those watching that are not happy for her. A gruesome murder is committed! Tilly is implicated in the crime. She must flee and leave everything she worked for behind. Including the man she loved. In a time when one is guilty before proven innocent, Tilly's life unravels. Completely! The ending is delightful, though I won't spoil it for you here. I look forward to more books from this writer.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2018Excellent story that takes many unexpected turns to keep you interested. Well written and a joy to read. So many books today are just the same stories being told over and over with slight alterations. This one kept me guessing, which made it a book I didn’t want to put down.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2018This is the best story yet. I couldn’t put the book down. All the thing Tilly get tangle into. The coat was a bit of a give away I thought. But it was a great story and I can’t wait to read the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Large Print Happiness
There never seems to be enough large print books. Purchased as a gift for my 89 year old mother. Easy to read, lighter than hard cover books and she loved the story. Will purchase the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The water gypsy
This book was wonderful and well written , I couldn't put it down. I really felt for Tilly and all her hardships she had to face
many times I had to go back a couple of pages and 're read them as I was eager to find out what was going to happen, and was skipping bits out in order to see what way the story would end.I was a little sad when I got to the end as I wanted to read more and more.
I would recommend this book to anyone, especially those that likes Victorian and pre war times. I hope the author brings more books out in the future. I would love to read more from her.
I'm now going to pass this over to my mum and auntie, as I know they are going to really like this too.
