- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2015To let anyone who may not read any of my reviews, I will let you know I review as I read. So far, I have given away no spoilers. I intend to keep it that way. But for me, writing my thoughts as I read keeps the books fresher in my mind. I write my notes in a separate app then copy over. It's also my way of ensuring I don't unknowingly reread a book from Kindle Unlimited. Hooray for KU, except writers only get credit for one read. And unfortunately, my review will not show as a verified purchase. If I read a book that I will re-read, I save my pennies and eventually buy it.
I must also preface this review by admitting I am a rabid Remington Kane fan. I am reading the ones I missed in the early years.
However, I own this book, and my review is gone. So, I will read and write another one.
Dr. Jessica White and her husband, Mr. White, are criminal profilers. Jessica is a psychriast. Mr. White is her husband. To say anything more about who and what they are at this point is a spoiler.
The first person the couple saves, shot an undercover DEA agent, so Jessica is rather perturbed at her when all was said and done.
There are other fun jobs they do together, again no spoilers.
The last chapter, Red, White, and Blue, has a surprise. Blue Steel is a bounty hunter (she has her own series, and she's bad to the bone - check her out). She is chasing a guy named Rojas (Red) when they literally run into the Whites. I had completely forgotten that the Whites knew Blue longer than any of Mr. Kane's other characters.
Plenty of action here. Not only that, but some pretty odd goings-on when the Whites actually meet. Fun, I am not so sure.
Great beginning for the TAKEN! series.
Love this book and hope my review stays where I put it this time.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2014I picked up this set free because it sparked my interest- the characters are a fairly unique mix. Recently I've been reading more romance than suspense, but I thought I'd give this a chance and i'm glad I did. The stories are fast paced and all fairly inventive. If you don't like short stories, then it's best to read this all together for a more meaty read- figuratively and literally;) I did have some issues with these stories as far as facts go. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'm not going to get into too much detail, but a majority of serial killers are usually male- not in this book, which made me a little skeptical. I was also curious about many of the other small details and how I rolled my eyes because there didn't seem to be enough evidence to back them up. I would like to see this author rewrite these stories into a more solid and longer novel with more believable details, because I think if written correctly, with a good editor, it would be a very strong read. And by the way- I'm a big fan of the two main characters, don't change much about them.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2015This book features a highly unusual pair of heroes. A guy who had the makings of a serial killer, and the woman who taught him to love...a psychiatrist. Together, they solve well-plotted criminal cases. This book is unlike anything I have ever read before, and when so many other writers seem to just rehash older plots and characters, it is totally refreshing to read something completely unique. The male of the husband and wife team of crime solvers is, maybe, even scarier than the people they apprehend (and sometimes eliminate). It has been a long time since I have enjoyed a mystery this much, and really look forward to reading more of Kane's works.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2017This is a rather disjointed novel with several story vignettes that would be better if fleshed out with more detail. The book starts with a woman being taken by a killer but it turns out to not be what was expected.
The narrative is confusing. Dr. Jessica White narrowly escaped being raped and killed as a teenager. The killer was persuaded to let her go and they became a couple. The second story in the book, Past Imperfect, explains their back-story better and I would have preferred to see that book first. There’s an odd affectation; Dr. White’s husband is not mentioned by name. I give the first book 2 stars and the second one 3 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2022Best book I've read in ages. Action murder romance adventure. I found a few typos but I'm still giving five stars because it's a compelling read. Rarely do I give five stars. As an editor, I've read some bad writing on this platform but not this book. It delivers page after page until the end. Didn't check to see if there's another in the series but if so, I can't wait to get started!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2013Usually, I find mysteries boring or too complex and confusing as the author tries so hard to fit too many things into a book. I was expecting this same thing, just at a higher level since the "books" were short stories. However, with this first volume being free, the positive reviews and my own curiosity, I decided to try this volume out.
I am so glad I did! You do have to go back at some points to ensure you are getting the right information but as it turns out, later on, things make sense. I have never read such an intriguing, twist-filled book that keeps a hold of you. The only problem I had is that it did get confusing so I would have to go back to previous sections or books to ensure I had the information straight.
I cannot wait to read all the volumes, although, I did notice towards the end of the first volume it started sounding similar. If the other books begin being the same, I will be highly disappointed and have to stop at that point. I am however hopeful that that will not be the case.

5.0 out of 5 stars I’m ‘Taken’ by this series now...
A love we all wish we had - albeit perhaps without the starting of it - a wee bit scarey! And a duo team hunting psycho’s?? what more could I ask for in a series. :)
