Taming The Vulture (THE BRIDES BY CHANCE REGENCY ADVENTURES SERIES Book 10) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 477 ratings

A captivating Regency adventure! Perfect for fans of Georgette Heyer, Mary Balogh, Jane Aiken Hodge and Jane Austen.

An independent young woman becomes fascinated with a brooding poet…

Winter, 1806, England

Headstrong and intelligent, Silvestre Latimer is determined to devote herself to writing and has no interest in finding a husband.

Having just sold her first novel and on the brink of literary success, Silvestre is soon mixing with London’s most celebrated authors. Among them she meets
Gausselin Degarre — a talented but embittered poet who has grown weary of the pretentious literati.

Despite his standoffish manner and vulture-like appearance, Silvestre admires Gausselin’s honesty and dark humour. In turn, she quickly wins his respect with her wit and outspoken attitude.

When a twist of fate throws the two into closer proximity, they find themselves increasingly drawn to one another. And though Gausselin seems determined to shun romance, Silvestre soon feels her fascination blossoming into something more…

TAMING THE VULTURE is the tenth book in the Brides By Chance series, an enchanting set of Regency romances set in Georgian England.

Elizabeth Bailey grew up in Africa with unconventional parents, where she loved reading and drama. On returning to England, she developed her career in acting, theatre directing and finally writing.

Elizabeth's latest venture is The Lady Fan Mystery series, published by Sapere Books. The novels feature amateur sleuth Lady Ottilia Fanshawe and a cast of family members including her husband and champion Lord Francis Fanshawe. She originally published Regency romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon and has many titles in her Brides by Chance Regency Adventures series, now also published by Sapere, as well as standalone Regency and Georgian romances.

Elizabeth also writes edgy women's fiction: Her dual time novel Fly The Wild Echoes, which deals with past lives, and For One More Tomorrow, where the ghost of the real Macbeth returns, protesting his villainous portrayal by Shakespeare. And she has published a romantic suspense novella, Silence of a Stranger.

Elizabeth lives in Sussex, England. She is still an inveterate reader with eclectic tastes and she spends her spare time helping other writers improve their craft.

Lord! I never thought I would get through this book! The pain these two characters inflicted on each other was too much.

A delightful read with prose beyond the simple used in most books. A refreshing change! A well written story that flows smoothly and never drags.

Of all the entertaining books in this series , this was my favorite. I read it, loved it and moved on to another book. But after a few pages, I abandoned the new book and decided to read this one again. Yup! Still love it. Maybe more after the second reading. I love well developed characters and Elizabeth Bailey is very good at developing characters.

I love Elizabeth Bailey's other series the Lady Fan Mysteries but I have never read any of her other books so I decided to give this one a try. I have to say I enjoyed this book. Both Silvestre and Joss are great characters and I loved how Joss was not your typical romantic hero. He is described vulture like in appearance and although they didn't call it depression/anxiety it sure sounds like that was what he was afflicted with and I appreciated that it was included. Also I liked how Silvestre took a bit of a leading roll when needed. Plus I enjoyed the addition of her being a novelist and him being a poet because we got a bit of insight into publishing in this era. All in all a good book.

I did not like this book. It started fine, but then went down. I struggled hard to believe finish it.
This book was not what I was expecting from this author.
I do not recommend this book.

The angst of writing, the pressures of societal and familial expectations, navigating unexpected affection, snowy weather, and the treacherous waters of literary success make this a fierce funny regency romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The practical Latimer twin Sylvester takes to the Literary scene and beards the Poet in his lair !

I must confess the very special rapport I felt with the heroine of this book. The crescendo of pathos admirably constructed as Silvester (a girl!) loses her heart to the desperately antisocial poet Joss. The backdrop of literary salons and eccentric aristocrats is richly and amusingly portrayed. The writing is marvelous, full of humour and angst. My gratitude and congratulations to Ms Bailey!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful characters!
Reviewed in India on August 14, 2021
This novel was wonderful - including the tortured poet, the winter romance and perfect Regency manners. What I most like about Elizabeth Bailey's stories is the simplicity of the tale and growth in the characters. Full marks for this one!

Not her best, a one line theme that really becomes less enthralling.
As a rule really enjoy her work .
