Taming Tori (Cowboys in Charge) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 337 ratings

He's as dominant as he is damaged.

Roughhewn cowboy Frank Bassett knows his life has changed forever after a near-fatal horse accident leaves him with a serious limp. Determined to make the best of his circumstances, he takes a job as a schoolteacher in a small town. There he crosses paths with a beautiful, tart-tongued seamstress, who before long finds herself over his knee to be taught a richly deserved lesson in good manners.

Frank does not fit the bill with regard to Victoria Davis's hope of landing herself a wealthy husband, but the snobby young woman can't resist the magnetic pull of Frank's strength, dominance, and tenderness. She becomes hopelessly smitten, and a tempestuous romance ignites.

But dark clouds loom ahead, and a stroke of misfortune will once again befall the cowboy. Can these two spirited lovers weather the impending storm, or will their love be collateral damage?

Publisher's Note: Taming Tori contains sexual scenes and adult punishment spanking. If that doesn't appeal to you, please don't buy this book.

I enjoyed the story of a broken cowboy turned school teacher and a business owner who was a little too full of herself. It is a second chance at life and happiness for both of them and has the coveted happily ever after ending.

Frank Bassett is a man who didn’t live in fear but learns quickly that life can be fleeting after a near-fatal fall off a horse he was trying to break. Living paralyzed for a short time, he does gain the use of his leg, but it is the end of his career as a cowboy—or anything requiring manual labor. An ad for a school teacher will give him a new lease on life in a new town.

“To Frank, who will make the best cowboy schoolteacher Texas ever saw.”

Victoria Davis has set high hopes of attracting a wealthy husband, a man worthy of a woman of her status---but those dreams aren’t coming to fruition. When she meets Frank Bassett in her shop, there is a chemistry as he corrects her behavior. But is that what she wants?

The plot will have Frank and Victoria getting to know each other, and he is quick to call her out for her snooty attitude. The more she tries to learn about him, the more he has her second-guessing things. When he threatens that she needs a spanking, it shocks and arouses her. It doesn’t take long for these two to visit more often, and Frank does prove to be a man of his word and spanks Tori when she disobeys.

“You have to earn compliments from me, darlin’. From what I’ve observed of you so far, you deserve a spanking more than sweet nothings whispered in your ear.”

The story brings two unlikely people together, and when they do get better acquainted, it doesn’t take long for their relationship to include her challenging him about the spanking he told her she needed. No one has ever cared enough to dominant her, and she craves his control and even his discipline. It won’t be long before these two take things beyond friendship and spankings to include a sexual encounter. But life is ready to throw in trouble, and how will Frank cope with this new issue? Does he feel like less of a man? A failure and imposter for how he is handling things? What will it take for these two to find their way back to each other?

I love how Ms. Amelia Smarts can keep the pages turning in her stories, with lively characters, witty dialogue, and just enough dominance and submission to make it real. The interaction within the romance between Frank and Tori sizzles with intimacy and discipline but is never overdone. The story has several spanking scenes and a couple of intimate scenes.

I thought this book was an entertaining, quick read about unique characters. “Cowboy schoolmaster” Frank is unusual cowboy – he enjoys poetry and learning new things as much as he enjoys riding the range. When a leg injury effectively ends his ability to earn a living as a cowboy, he applies for a position as a schoolteacher. Beautiful young seamstress Victoria has learned to depend on nothing and nobody but herself. She has learned to emotionally isolate herself from the world. When Frank and Victoria meet, she is undeniably attracted to the rugged schoolmaster, and he manages to see beyond her selfish façade.

I had a couple of minor problems with this story. I don’t like to give spoilers so I will try do explain that without saying too much. I don’t think you’ll be surprised to learn that they get intimate with each other. Well, with the first time they do so, it is not in a physical position typically appropriate for first endeavour of that kind. And he immediately fall asleep and then when she wakes him, he just leaves. It is setting the scene for what follows, but none of it seems to fit his character.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and at the end I found out it’s part of .a series. A couple of things mentioned in the book had make that seem likely, and in the back of the book the other stories in this series are listed. I just purchased the first one because I really did appreciate the storytelling abilities and writing

If you like alpha males who like to spank for truth and discipline and love their submissive, get this book!
Frank was hurt badly and now needs to “think out of the box” about his future. He’s almost 30yo, can’t rope and ride anymore, but he has a brain and likes learning. So…he applies for a job as a school teacher in Thorndale from the women’s advertisement for jobs! Frank is a caring man who is very perceptive of human nature and their frailties otherwise he probably wouldn’t have given Tori a second glance.
Victoria is 19yo and has her own business which she inherited from her parents. She’s the only clothing and fabrics store in town. But on a personal note she is too haughty, too self-absorbed and too mean since her parents’ death. Frank sees it for what it is, fear and insecurity which he plans to help with.
There are other people in Frank’s orbit that we learn more about. Some was so touching, I had tears in my eyes. When tragedy strikes, how will Frank and Tori manage? Truly a good book, well-written, fast-paced and hard to put down. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book and it gets all the stars! There was even mention of characters from a previous book, “Bringing Trouble Home” – another great book.

When two people who have very different ways of dealing with fear and loss come together things look good until a new loss drives them apart. Can they find their way back to each other? They can, with the help of a small boy who has also suffered a great loss. Such a sweet and touching story that reminds us that people can't always be strong all the time.

I buy everything written by this author, she's definitely one of my favorites. That being said, this one was actually just ok. It just doesn't have the depth that most of her books do. I'm hoping for better in the next one.

Maybe it's me but I don't think that I have ever read a story with more tender emotions than this one. If only God blessed us all to find someone who loves like us like they loved each other. They made each other better people. Great story.

Frank & Victoria meet when he comes to her shop to buy a shirt for his new teaching job. They end up going out together, & he sometimes punishes her when she misbehaves.

She’s not a very likable person, at times snobby & mean, at times to old friends & even to kids.

Then Frank ends up in a bit of trouble, & he feels useless... They both end up feeling like they need to learn from each other.

I’m not sure where Bobby is when they end up sorting out their feelings for one another over supper. It’s also not clear how they can sleep together without any possible pregnancy issues (or even talk about) during the late 1800s.
