Target Risk: A classic naval disaster novel (John Wingate Historical Thrillers) Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 677 ratings

An action-packed novel of the sea! Perfect for fans of live Cussler, Douglas Reeman and Duncan Harding.

It’s a race against time to prevent a maritime disaster…

Leviathan, the largest crude carrier ever to be built, is the first of shipping magnate Kartar Browne’s modern fleet of nuclear-powered supertankers. A devious and ruthless operator, Browne’s organization – Planeka Shipping International – has profited from the exploitation of underpaid crews and underinsured ships.

David Krivine, a professional diver, is struggling to establish Hull Cleaning Services Ltd, an underwater anti-fouling company. Winning the contract to service Leviathan represents his company’s future, and security for himself and his family.

Too late, David discovers the shattering truth – that he has been a pawn in Browne’s callous stratagems. Now he must struggle to avert a disaster of horrific proportions.

As the clock ticks down, can David avert the sinking of the world’s biggest ship?

Or is the English Channel about to witness a catastrophe of unprecedented magnitude?

TARGET RISK is a classic naval disaster thriller written in the 1970s.

I read better ones by the author. The diving science is full of errata. Maybe update or revise the edition

All action with human side to boot. I enjoyed this one and look forward to the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different slant
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 26, 2021
This is a Naval book with a difference. It has an insight (perhaps) into Lloyd's insurers. It also hints that the author is not all knowing regarding aircraft, see 727 takeoff.

Good on the technical side and insight into working of Loydds insurance but rather dull otherwise, characters are two dimensional and do not generate much interest. Not up to usual standard.

Never read this author, so did not know what to expect, he manages to write incorporating the family side to to war as well as the unexpected and humourless side to a family in war .

2.0 out of 5 stars slow to build and then all over in the last chapter
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 20, 2022
It was a very slow lead up to the main action and then it was all over in the last minute. It is also highly impassable the a nuclear powered ship could fail in this way. Not the best narrative ark.
