Liz Rasmussen is up to her eyeballs in renovations at the dilapidated farmhouse that her new husband Floyd, surprised her with shortly after they eloped. A self-described Park Avenue kinda gal, the farm scene is taking a bit of adjusting for poor Liz, which might just be an understatement.
Echo Quigley, an employee of Rasmussen Farms, and now a tenant of Liz and Floyd’s, along with her pup, Teddy, have also begun settling in.
Disturbing incidents start to take place and Liz initially believes her nosy neighbor, Christi Kravitz, is behind them until a stranger shows up on the couple’s doorstep, demanding to see Echo. Hours later, the stranger is found badly beaten and in a coma, while Echo swears she has no idea who the stranger is.
Horrified that she’s made a huge mistake in allowing Echo to rent out the farm’s mobile home, Liz enlists the help of the Garden Girls to get to the bottom of it. Their investigation turns up shocking information about Echo, which explains why she moved to West Michigan with no job and little money in her pocket.
Sleeping with one eye open is Liz’s only option as she and the Garden Girls try to unravel Echo’s troubling past and figure out if she and Floyd have a tenant in trouble or a tenant who is trouble.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2022FIVE STARS & AWESOME!! This new unique series is more of Author Hope Callaghan excellent storytelling. I can honestly say this series is the best as "A Lack of Luxury and The Garden Girls," are joined in one series. The fun, danger, thrills and chaos is outstanding. Liz Applegate - Rasmussan and her new husband Floyd are making their home close to her sister Gloria Kennedy, her husband Paul and all of her best friends. When Liz thinks her new tenant is either in trouble or hiding from it, she realizes she needs "The Garden Girls," so she calls her sister Gloria. Get ready for an incredible ride of laughter as they do what they do best, solve crimes. These ladies still rock, so join in as they solve a couple of crimes, touch your heart and keep Liz from having that meltdown. I recommend this wonderful series to all readers. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2023I just love all of Hopes' books! This particular series going into Liz's life is so much fun. I love how Liz's character is developing, and how she and her sister are bonding and improving their relationship. I can also see the nosy neighbor and Ruth partnering up with their customized products. Spy bird houses anyone? Or perhaps they could market them as the ultimate bird watching experience! I can't wait to see how Liz and Floyd's greenacres-esque property turns out.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2022The original Garden Girls series’ tom boy main character
Gloria Kennedy,
steps aside as her fashionista sister Liz marries a local Dairy farmer,
taking the helm as
the very funny main character in this ever clever Lack of Luxury Cozy Mystery Series (a most successful spin off from the original, Garden Girls).
Author Hope Callaghan continues to entertain readers with her Wonderful, Suspenseful, Hilarious,
Christian grounded,
Lively Story Plots which she delivers to the page with a clarity that actually makes you feel like you are a spectator in each scene…simply masterful!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2022These Cozy Mysteries are always fun, and I look forward to the next one. The characters are unique and interesting and the storyline always keeps the reader guessing. In this story, Liz and her wealthy farmer husband, are living in an RV while completely renovating a home for the two of them. The side story of city girl Liz and her reaction to pigs and her realization that their land was really going to become a working farm complete with livestock is wonderfully written and so humorous. Add that to solving the mystery of whether or not their tenant, Echo, is bad or being pursued by a bad person, and you have quite the cozy mystery. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2024Kept me interested until the end. Glad the series continues. The Garden Girls seem like family. Love the spiritual themes, Hope.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2023Hope is an excellent and very prolific writer. My favorite series is the Cruise Ship Mysteries with Mille Armati, divorcee, assistant, and now head, cruise director, wife of the captain, and super sleuth, and Made in Savanna is a close second. Although I have read many of the Garden Girls Mysteries, they aren't quite my style - nothing wrong with the series, it's excellently written just like all of Hope's books; it just doesn't click with me like the ones I mentioned. That's why it's so great that there are so many different ones to choose from, and it also shows the writer's versatility; they are not formulaic or cookie-cutter, so her books offer a wide variety and appeal. Even though the Garden Girls isn't quite up my alley, I did enjoy this spinoff and will most likely continue to read these. One thing I noticed and really liked was the straightforward wrap-up of the case. This goes back to what I said about not being formulaic. At the end of the first book, I was waiting for the standard dramatic scene where the main characters wind up in a tense situation/ standoff with the bad guys - held at gunpoint, tied up, hanging over a pit of hungry crocodiles, rescued in the nick of time - I won't spoil the ending, so let's just say the plan went perfectly, no hiccups, and the case was solved with no dangerous dramatic ending. This book is the same - they find the evidence, the cops do their part, the mystery is solved, and life gets back to normal. Also missing is the "big reveal" where all the suspects are all together and the main character lays out all the evidence, goes through each suspect one by one telling why they looked guilty and how it was proved they weren't until finally the real culprit is revealed. That has it's place but it gets old after a while. So, kudos to Hope for breaking out of the mold!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great read
The new tenant, unless it’s Farm seems to be caring a great burden. When someone tries to break into her trailer, the garden girls step in to see what they can do to help.
Their new young tenant Echo has a price on her head. And takes a lot of surveillance and sleuthing and help from other friends to find out who is trying to kill her.
