Tested (Daniel Briggs Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 3,821 ratings

"I wish I had someone to talk to, someone to trust.

Will Sin City bring my salvation, or endless dust."

Marine Sniper, Daniel Briggs, thinks he's got it all figured out. He's faced what he thinks is the worst, and his plan is to tackle Las Vegas like he conquered foreign enemies. But with his sobriety tentative at best, and with calamity tripping him up at every turn, how will the battered warrior fair in this, his hardest test to date? Will he succumb to his inner demons, or will he harness The Beast and something new, in order to come out whole on the other side?

If you like Stephen Hunter's
Bob Lee Swagger, WEB Griffin's Killer McCoy, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, and Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne, you will love Daniel Briggs.

The main Corps Justice series has over fourteen books in total and running, plus multiple spinoffs with its most popular characters. The series has earned thousands of five-star reviews and has been downloaded millions of times to Kindles across the globe.

If you enjoy page-turning thrillers loaded with twists, brotherhood above all else, a staunch moral code and non-stop action, Cal Stokes and his Corps justice is for you!

WHY C. G. COOPER MATTERS

Fiction has the power to change lives.

Pay a visit to Cooper Country and you’ll understand why. With his unique voice and flair for creating characters you’d love to hang out with, C. G. Cooper imparts every one of his novels with messages that perfectly illuminate what Faulkner called, “the human heart in conflict with itself.” In them, characters confront hard truths about life, the necessity of war, the military industrial complex, and why and how good men and women die.

But there are messages within the messages.

There is the power of the individual to triumph over evil against overwhelming odds; the struggle of good people against their inner demons; there is brotherhood, family, the discovery of allies in unexpected places, struggles with faith; there is community; there is authenticity; Cooper’s heart is on every page, beating hard and fast through action and moments of tenderness alike.

Expect high-octane action, slow-burn thrills, and gut-wrenching drama. Expect the ultimate conflict of the human heart.

This is Cooper Country. Lives will change.

THE LOWDOWN

Drawing on his days as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps—a stint that came on the heels of a degree in foreign affairs from UVA—Cooper sifted his experience through his vivid imagination and created Corps Justice, the first novel in the beloved Corps Justice series. Thus, a band of characters was born that would go on to enthrall readers throughout 17 novels and counting. With more than 2 million book downloads and multiple appearances in the Amazon Top 100, C. G. Cooper remains one of the most successful USA TODAY and Amazon best-selling authors.

In 2020, he won the prestigious James Webb Award presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his novel Chain of Command.

In addition to bouncing around the country in search of the perfect vacation (turns out, it is anywhere with his family), Cooper has called Nashville home ever since his final Marine duty station. When not enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Music City, he’s doing his best to add more novels to the growing list at cg-cooper.com.

This was the fourth and final book of the Daniel Briggs Series... I read this series because Daniel was my favorite character in the Corps Justice Series...

Daniel Briggs is on his way (via bus) to Las Vegas when he meets five year-old Nathaniel and his mother, Veronica. They will become important parts of his life. In The meantime, an old friend hitches a ride with him, but gets tossed aside once Daniel exits the bus in Vegas.

As always, Daniel tries to "stand up for those who couldn't stand up for themselves" and he "knew how it felt to be alone, wandering aimlessly through life with every turn tighter than the one before.” Daniel will have to make some tough decisions that have even tougher consequences. Will he become The Beast forever or will he persevere and turn into a more peaceful, calmer person? Read Tested and all of the Daniel Briggs books today — and then read The Corps Justice Series, they are excellent books! Page turning ✅, suspenseful ✅, heart pounding thrills ✅, wild, in-your-face, *ss-kicking action ✅. I could not put it down — once I started, I knew I would read it all the way through in one sitting...

AfterThought: As stated by other readers, it is Jack Daniel's, not Jack Daniels (as it was spelled in all four books) — a minor error that I am more than willing to overlook, given the high quality of the stories told...

The Daniel Briggs novel “Tested “ is a who done it thrill ride. Tough to put down. I recommend reading all previous books in order to get an understanding of the character and the transformation he finally make. Look forward to more Daniel Briggs.

I never served in the military, so this novel was eye-opening. Mr. Cooper using his own experience and good research showed how one man coped with his PTSD and how he finally found that one elusive piece that can put lives back together, xxxxx. You will have to read the novel to find out what that piece is and sometimes what it takes to reach that special point. In addition to that process, Mr. Cooper weaves a very good mystery about a little boy and his mother and what it can cost one in time, treasure, and emotions once you get involved in their lives. In many different ways Daniel comes out at the other end of this experience a different man. Great read, lots of intrigue, a very good look at life and how we should always help others, sometimes sacrificially, and how meeting other people with similar experiences to our burdens can be cathartic. I enjoyed it and underlined a lot.

Actually I had read all of the Corps Justice books and really enjoyed them. After finishing the last of the Justice books I decided to read all the Daniel Briggs books to what led up to him joining Corps Justice. Looking forward to more in that series and anything more with Daniel.

Extremely well written and interesting. A tight, gripping story - until over half way when narrative when the lead protagonist goes to a religious experience and becomes almost insufferable in his mystic convictions and giving way to constant introspection.

I wouldn't say I was disappointed in this book but the rest of the series was so thrilling that this one fell a little short for me. While we see Briggs turn into his Corps Justice character here, he just doesn't have the charisma of the other 3 books in this series.

While I understand this book is about transition, I'm more of a fan of the younger Briggs and not the Corps Justice version, so that is why I'm not as thrilled with this book. The twists are frequent and the plot is complex to the point that you'll never know where it's going but I still think this series is better than the Corps Justice series. Hopefully Cooper will give us a few more Briggs books. He just wrote this series differently in a good way.

What a terrific book! The writing is so good. The characters draw you in and you feel like you are right beside them as they go through each event. Daniel is really special.

TESTED is indeed a story of being tested, as God test each of us, but Daniels testing goes to the extremes his life has & will be. He is now well prepared for his life to come, but will continue to grow as we all should.

The characters in Tested are an amazing collection of Good & Evil that make for many mysteries & surprises as the reader progresses unsuspectingly.
I had met Daniel in the many stories in earlier C G Cooper Series, but that may hve only intensive may interest in knowing him in this way & how he grew to be The Special Warrior he is & is to become.
So look forward to meeting Daniel again & again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very satisfying conclusion to the series

A very satisfying conclusion to the four book series about Daniel Briggs.

We first meet him in "Council of Patriots", the second book in the Corps Justice series, where he is described as looking like "a crazy mountain man". He comes to the rescue of Cal, the prime focus in that book, and becomes an important figure in that and subsequent books in the series.

The Daniel of the Corps Justice books is a Marine sniper par excellence, a man with the stealth, the hunting instincts and the power of a high level predator. At the same time he is a man who projects calm and control; a man who has found peace after crashing the depths of self-loathing and despair. The four books in the Daniel Briggs series, written - very successfully - in the first person, show the events that took him from the PTSD-ridden drifter who decided whether to live or die on the flip of a coin, to the peaceful warrior of Corps Justice.

The continuing saga of Daniel Briggs and his search for a purpose to his life. This adventure is a bit far fetched. He falls for a hard luck story despite the authors insistence that he has highly honed and sensitive awareness skills. Still, if you don't think about it too deeply you can become involved in his adventures. He is a likeable character and we know he will survive to find Cal Stokes.

Loved the ongoing, granite, a dual character development of Daniel and like him, I did not know the identities of the assassin's until the end.
