    What an awesome way to end a series.

    The characters were phenomenal. I loved reading about Tim and the roll he played throughout this series and in this particular story.

    The story-line was amazing. The author pulled out all the stops while writing this story and making a memorable happy ending. It's sad that this is the last book, but it has been one heck of a journey and I enjoyed every minute of it. I highly recommend this read.

    Sometimes the best way to handle a supernatural battle is to wait for the perfect time to strike.

    The dialogue was well done. There were a few scenes where characters were able to guess what their conversation partner was about to say and respond to it before the other person had even had a chance to speak. This was a creative way to keep those scene moving, and I enjoyed seeing how easy it was for them to make those educated guesses.

    There were some pacing issues in the beginning. It took a while for the narrator to explain what Timmy’s life was like during the years after his brother was murdered. Timmy wasn’t a character I was necessarily expecting to see again, so it was interesting to see how he was brought back into the plot for the grand finale. It was a pleasant surprise, though, and I was glad to see him get more time to show the audience what he was about.

    I was quite pleased with how the author wrapped everything up. The previous instalments spent a lot of time creating a complex world that involved everything from time travel to alternate timelines to the notorious behavior of demons who were capable of twisting any human action to their own dark purposes. There was a lot of material to cover because of this, and I was happy with how well it was all tied together by the end of the last scene.

    This is part of a series. It should be read in order.

    The Path: Keeper of Amaarand should be read by any horror or science fiction fans who enjoyed the first seven parts of this tale.

    Canadian author E.H. James is a prolific writer of short stories – stories that test the imagination and call forth ghost like thoughts of the dark world about which we know very little. James is part of that conundrum as there is no biographical information on this gifted author as though that is meant to be part of the mysteries presented. We learn that she has read and researched in the areas of parapsychology and metaphysics, for the past 40 years, and has woven the real and imaginary together into stories of the strange and bizarre. The fruits of her labor show!

    James’ mastery of the short story is obvious to those readers fortunate to have been introduced to her craft. In a matter a few pages she is able to conjure an atmosphere that challenges the reader’s courage to enter past the initial page, and the manner in which she quickly sketches lifelike characters and draws us into their interactions with the challenges they encounter is masterful.

    THE DEMON SERIES of which THE PATH: KEEPER OF THE AMAARAND is the eighth volume demonstrates James’ mastery of the short story. In a brief 61 pages she elevates the suspense for the entire series even more. The entire Demon Series covers centuries; the eighth volume returns to California, 1968.

    James’ synopsis covers the story well - ‘When Max Jensen is brutally murdered, on September 9, 1962, Timmy Jensen’s life is changed forever. Timmy adored Max, and his loss was something neither he, nor his parents, could overcome.     Knowing that the series continues makes the mystery of part 8 a very exciting continuation and growth. E.H. James’ masterful uses of the back and forth time frames for the series adds immeasurably to the suspense, with backgrounds offered in a near random fashion to explain the destinies of her characters.
