About the author
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Linda S. Prather, was born in Kentucky in 1955. She currently live in Lexington, Kentucky with my fiancé, Coby W. Fuson. She has two wonderful sons, Charles and Steven.
I have always loved reading and writing. And although perhaps not a great literary work, I loved and was inspired by Old Yeller. The characters in that book were real to me. When I started writing, it was my greatest desire to write characters that readers could love and hate, laugh and cry with.
Knowledge was another love. I wanted to learn about everything. I studied metaphysics; delving into touch healing, dream analysis, meditation, and hypnosis. I received my associate's degree in metaphysics in 1992 and continued from there to become a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I spent several years studying the effects of hypnosis on cancer and pain. I taught meditation, dream analysis and self-hypnosis through Eastern Kentucky University's Special Programs for four years. The power of the mind has always fascinated me. I've recently become a paranormal investigator, and love old houses that go bump in the night.
The Gifts and coming soon Sacred Secrets are a combination of my love of mystery, metaphysics and the paranormal.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2017Investigative crime reporter Andi Carter is kidnapped and tortured by someone she knows. After what she thinks is 3 days, she is begging the man to kill her! He just laughs! Andi keeps hoping her lover will find her and make this nightmare end. After all, Jerry Palano is a detective. Someone unexpected actually saves her and Andi spends a long time in a couple of different hospitals recovering.
Ten years later Andi is alone and working for a crummy small newspaper; she has people who love her, but life isn’t quite what she wants it to be. When people start dying right and left, Andi’s editor lets her and another reporter cover the crimes and investigate. She becomes embroiled in a crime wave of murder, kidnapping, and prostitution.
“The 13th Victim” is almost impossible to put down! This storyline is clever, wonderfully complex, with lots of tension and suspense, and an enormous evil rarely seen. The characters are richly described and likable, with surprises and twists you won’t see coming. An engrossing and fascinating read!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2018This is an extremely complicated story with a very large number of characters requiring the reader to play close attention in order to make sense of the story. A young woman reporter and an intern set out to follow a story about a murder only to find their investigation involves an international web of deceit. The book is well worth your time and money.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2018First, I have read this author before. It was when she'd co-authored a book. If I remember correctly I did not like it.
I had purchased this book and started to read it when I realized I'd bought a book by an author I didn't like. But, I had already started reading and was completely intrigued.
I am sooo glad I continued reading. It has been years since I've read a book from start to finish in one sitting, but read it I did.
I could not put it down! It had me hooked right from the start and never let up. My heart was beating like it was going to burst, I was shouting encouragement to the characters, I was there with everyone, totally immersed in the storyline and the characters.
I will definitely read more L. Prather books and, in particular, Andi Carter mysteries! Great read, great story, great ending. I highly recommend this series and author!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2017There were a lot of positives about this book. The plot was good, the writing was good, the story held my interest. The only problem was I felt like I had picked up the second book in a series. I even went to the author's page to see if that was the case. There was a lack of explanation of who all the characters were in relation to others and what their situations were. It was like starting a book a quarter of the way through. You can catch up during the story, although some of it might take a good while. Once you start to get the gist, the main characters are likeable. Some of the villains are thinly drawn and the motives behind their actions were hard to understand. I love books and probably rate them higher than others might, so feel like the other reviews are consistently too high. I'm giving this four stars, but feel like it's about 3.5.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2018To many characters to keep up with. Very long ending
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2019This was a good mystery with excellent character development. Andi, Shamus and the rest of the non-bad guy characters were likable, interesting people, usually with an intriguing back story that, hopefully, will be fleshed out in greater detail in later books. Another reviewer mentioned it feeling like Book #2, and I can certainly see the point - maybe a prequel is in order. As soon as I saw there was a second book, I ordered it. Read it: you will enjoy it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020I read this book in one sitting- wanted to finish it and find out who was who in the good-guys versus bad-guys stakes. Great backstories - lots of interesting characters. Going to read the next instalment now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great thriller and characters
Linda Prather has done it again. She’s created a stunning mystery that is character driven and full of intrigue.
Ten years ago Andi Carter was tortured for days by her lover’s partner, Richard Thomas. When she was rescued she lost everything- the man she loved and her job as an investigative reporter along with some of her memory from around the time she was abducted.
Depressed and often seeking solace at the bottom of a whiskey glass, she’s snatched from her stupor when a young girl reaches out for help through the classified ads of the newspaper where she now works.
What unfolds is a blood curdling tale of a dozen young girl’s bodies buried beneath concrete. A 13th Victim will do all she can to survive, including murder.
A fast-paced mystery about vengeance and righting wrongs of the other twelve victims.
Loved the characters and the pace of this page-turning mystery. A cracking addition to Linda’s other stunning novels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from Prather.
There's a lot going on in this fast paced crime thriller. Child trafficking, corruption, murder and torture all feature as the story of the 13th victim unfolds. Alone and frightened she begins to communicate with Andi, a local journalist, who is recovering from a terrifying ordeal herself.
This is an enjoyable read. The pace never slacks, but also manages to build up some meaningful relationships between some of the characters. My favourite character was 'Irish.' At times out of his depth as things are uncovered around him, but he's not one to give up on those he's grown to care about.
Another great read from Prather.
