The Accidental Elopement: A steamy, matchmaking second chance Regency Romance (Scandalous Miss Brightwell Series Book 4) Kindle Edition
A LADY'S HEART NEVER FORGETS...
Katherine and Jack were childhood sweethearts destined for each other—until fate and fortune tore them apart. Now, after seven years of mourning her first husband, Katherine's world turns upside down when Jack returns from the West Indies, no longer the penniless orphan who once stole her heart, but a wealthy merchant...betrothed to another.
Jack never forgot Katherine—or her apparent betrayal. The night he sailed away to make his fortune, she supposedly eloped with another man. Now honor-bound to fulfill a betrothal contract that saved his business, Jack must face the woman he's always loved, knowing she chose another over him.
But in the glittering ballrooms of London, old passions reignite and long-buried secrets surface. With their hearts pulling them together and duty driving them apart, Katherine and Jack must decide if true love deserves a second chance.
THE ACCIDENTAL ELOPEMENT is a steamy, second-chance romance featuring childhood sweethearts, scandalous misunderstandings, and the chance to reclaim a love worth fighting for. Book 4 in the Scandalous Miss Brightwells series but can be read as a standalone.

About the author

"Rich historical romance filled with buried secrets and simmering passion, where determined heroines challenge society's rules to find true love and their own destiny."
Award-winning author Beverley Oakley crafts emotionally intense historical romances that transport readers to the glittering yet treacherous world of Georgian, Regency, and Victorian England.
Her stories delve deep into the hearts of strong-willed heroines who must navigate both the rigid social constraints of the British aristocracy and their own conflicting desires. Writing between Australia and Europe, Beverley draws on her own romantic history - having met her Norwegian husband while managing a safari lodge in Africa's Okavango Delta - to infuse her tales with authentic passion and adventure.
Through carefully researched historical detail and complex character relationships, she weaves stories where love blooms in unexpected places, and where passion and duty collide. Each novel combines the timeless appeal of historical Britain with psychological depth and emotional authenticity, creating an immersive experience where romance and personal growth intertwine against a backdrop of scandal, intrigue, and social transformation.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2019The Accidental Elopement is a fantastic historical romance by Beverley Oakley. Ms. Oakley has provided readers with a well-written book populated with an amazing cast of characters. Katherine is a widow and the mother of an 8 year old daughter. Katherine was in love with Jack when he left to work in the West Indies but was tricked into marriage to another. Jack loved Katherine but returned from the West Indies with a fiancee. Katherine and Jack's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed reading The Accidental Elopement and look forward to reading more from Beverley Oakley in the future. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2024Wow, what a great read. Good character development and lots of twists and turns. A wonderful job of showing everyone's personalities while keeping the story moving forward at a great pace. Surprises abound, secrets kept, mistakes made. Don't you know true love will always prevail.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 20234 1/2 stars. I enjoyed the story quite a lot. Jack and Katherine are only 17 and 18 when they fall in love. This explains their choices, but it’s hard to see them suffer the consequences. It was a very tangled web that they found themselves in, and it hurt my heart as I read their story. After a ton of drama and angst, they found their happy ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2022Oh my... if people had all been honest with each other from the beginning, things wouldn’t have taken 7yrs to get straightened out. But when a story makes you feel like you are in the mix of characters, to the point of wanting to hug some and pinch others... you know you have read a story that had been well constructed. Ms. Oakley brought it all to life. Easy read. Page turner for sure.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2019If ever there were two people who were meant for one another it's Katherine and Jack. They have known one another since he was 7 and had come to play with her cousin George from the foundling house. Thankfully he was adopted by Eliza and her husband not long after this. Now they are all grown up and Katherine is about to start her season but Jack is about to depart for his great adventure! They find one another and before Jack leaves truly discover one another! She mistakes a note from Mr. Marwick for one from Jack and soon finds herself married to Freddy, who is not the man he said he was. He dies 7 years later from the fever and it's been 7 months since then when she hears that Jack is back! Will they be able to reunite or will his honour prevent it? Will she be forced into another loveless marriage to Lord Derry? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Beverley Oakley.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2023This book has a little bit of everything -- childhood friends, mistaken identities, second chances, and an aunt who (mis)guides her niece throughout the novel.
The only criticism for me is that the dialogue, except for the accents, all sounds the same. So without the dialogue tags I couldn't tell the difference between the main character and her aunt. They are close in age, and the same social standing, so that does make sense. But more than once I had to backtrack for the dialogue tag.
Overall, it's cute, sweet and fun, with the promised steamy scenes.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2021Katherine has just had her come out and having sought advice from her free thinking, romantic aunt, decides the best way to discern whether a young man is suitable as a husband is with a kiss. I suppose I need not say that her method gave the wrong impression! Her dearest friend, Jack, who'd come to their home as a playmate of her cousin George when the were young children, has the best kiss. Unfortunately, another young man, having reasons of his own, is determined to claim her as his own.
Katherine's mind and heart are set on Jack, who's leaving for the West Indies, to seek his fortune. She desperately wants to go with him, but without means to support himself, it just can't happen. Imagine how excited Katherine is when, after all the heart ache of his leaving, a coach comes to take her to Jack!
Very well written with many twists and turns that make you question the outcome repeatedly. It was a complete pleasure to read this and every book I've read, so far, of Beverley's wonderful romances.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2023A story with many twist and turns, before true love can be realized. I had already read the previous books in this series so I enjoyed being reunited with the scandalous sisters once again. Although each can be read as a stand alone recommend you read them all in succession

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent stories - must reads.
I loved all 4 stories in the series and well worth reading. Was lovely to read this last in the series book and how the young friends were reunited despite all the disasters that occurred in their lives. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page-turner
Years after "Devil's Run" we learn how things turned out for foundling Jack and his childhood friend Katherine. Katherine is still a bit impetuous. Little George still behaves as a spoiled child. From the writing the reader can sense something is going to go wrong. Oh! If only the characters would have the guts to honestly admit their feelings! Recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Romp!
Loved this delightful romp. Lots of humour and fun. Twists and turns that kept me flicking the page wondering what everyone would do next. If you like your Regency romance, light, like a dance, as our couple weave their way to a HEA then this is for you. Cinderella, move over. :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful romance
Well written, one of two ups and downs during the story. Oceans separated them, but after seven years they win through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another brilliantly thought out story
This is another brilliantly thought out story, that continues the series, with great characters and plot lines. The characters are beautifully portrayed, with a determination and strength to be envied. This is a great book that would be suitable for anybody who loves slightly spicy historical romances that have a bit of suspense.
