The Alien Soldier: An MM Alien Romance (Interspecies Alliances Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 174 ratings

“I told you you wouldn’t be able to stand when I was done with you.”
“I didn’t doubt you. I never have.”

Patrick Smith is being punished. For letting a good man go free, for refusing to steal from a newly sovereign nation, for disobeying orders, but most of all for being a human in an alien army. Despite his decades of service and experience, instead of being on the front lines to defend his home against a strange new threat, he’s stuck commanding a squad of misfit soldiers no one wants and no one believes in.

Fal’ran has always been nothing. Worse than nothing. The poor, uneducated, brat of a drunk from the Moon Projects. But with war comes opportunity. For the first time in his life, Fal’ran has a chance to prove his worth, fighting in the greatest military in the sector. Nothing and no one is going to stand in his way. Not his past, not his useless teammates, and definitely not his pathetic human commanding officer.

That is until Fal’ran gets a whiff of said commanding officer’s mouth-watering scent and his entire world turns upside down. The simmering tension between them is undeniable. But it’s also unprofessional and unethical and acting on it is completely out of the question as far as Patrick is concerned.

As a new species launches an invasion, Patrick must decide if his moral compass is really as reliable as he’s always believed, and Fal’ran must decide if what he’s always wanted is really what he’s always needed.

With a found family, an age gap, power dynamics, and two driven men with inferiority complexes,
The Alien Soldier is the fifth book in Interspecies Alliances—a series best read in order about a galaxy torn apart by conflict and the men fighting to keep it together. Everyone gets HEAs once the series ends, but first, each novel follows its own couple with their own HFN ending on this epic space adventure.

CW: science fiction violence, torture, references to war, past child abuse, occupations, invading armies, and genocide.

Patrick and and Fal'ran are like oil and water at first. One older, devoted, straight laced, rule following while the other is younger, angry and thrives on breaking the rules. Yet, somehow, they are perfect for each other. Patrick gives Fal'ran the approval and support he's never had and Fal'ran gives him the love he's always needed. This is a great series and I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy science fiction with their romance. The books need to be read in order to fully enjoy them.

This is Patrick's story of always fighting to do the "right" thing, seeking acceptance from his people, and discovering what is truly important to him. Sometimes finding what makes you happy is the most important thing of all. He has spent his life guarding his bruised and battered heart, and finds the scariest thing of all may be making himself vulnerable to another.
Fal'ran has escaped his own traumatic past and seeks to prove his worth. In Partick, Fal'ran meets someone who shows him what is truly important, and what he's willing to do for those he loves.
A beautiful love story, with an adventure along the way, this book features a found family of misfits who make you root for them, weep with them, and fall head over gatlung in love with them.
I want every one of these wonderful men to find their HEA, and The Alien Scientist is next!! I'm definitely going to be going back to reread this series. So excited for more!

    Highly recommended!

I put off reading this book when it came out because I knew how sad I’d be when I finished it. It lived up to the hype in my head! I love this series so much and can’t wait for the next book. Also, I do hope the author writes about Prince Hyg soon, hint hint! So glad that Patrick found love, even though I wanted to smack up him upside the head plenty of times!

Patrick has served in the Klah'Eel army all his adult life. He's very loyal to the nation that raised him, but he's been looked down on by most of his fellow soldiers and commanding officers for his entire career for being “just” a weak human. His latest general is determined to see Patrick fail. To that end, he puts Patrick in charge of a group of new recruits, misfits recruited from the slums of Klah's moon that nobody expects to get through the trials before battle. Fal'ran is one of those recruits. He has only ever relied on himself and has never had anyone else believe in him. Like almost every new young Klah'Eel soldier, Fal'ran thinks challenging his new human captain will score him some easy points with the other soldiers. Patrick is used to younger soldiers thinking he will be a pushover, but what he lacks in size and youth, Patrick makes up for with experience. Once Patrick proves he's in charge, Fal'ran's opinion of his captain changes significantly.

“The Alien Soldier” is another great entry in the Interspecies Alliance series. Like all books in the series, the focus is on two different characters that played little or no role in previous books. However, the books are all set in the same universe and feature an ongoing set of challenges for the three (so far) alien species featured. If you don't read all of the preceding books, in order, you'll be missing a lot of world-building.

Patrick has appeared as a secondary character in several of the books of the series, but this is the first time we get to know anything about him. Patrick is a rather classic military hero archetype. He strongly believes that he's fighting the good fight to protect his country, and he will do almost anything to protect the men under his charge. His determination to do the right thing by Fal'ran, no matter what Patrick wants for himself, is quite admirable.

Fal'ran is quite the cocky, charming rogue of a young man. While he might not be human, his transformation from a loner who looks out only for himself to a confident team player is quite believable. His attraction to Patrick can seem like a crush on the first person to believe in him, but it soon becomes clear there's more to it than that.

There's a bit of angst to this story, as Patrick worries about doing the right thing by Fal'ran and prevaricates about getting involved with him. However, it's not without good reason, and the more we learn about the man, the more we understand his doubts.

I very much enjoyed this extra spicy tale.
It didn’t quite go the way I half expected it, but that didn’t mean I was disappointed.
I deducted half a star because there were some typos here and there (breath instead of breathe twice, the use of the wrong first name, …a couple of things like that). It didn’t annoy me too bad (it usually does, but I was in a mellow mood, lol).
I was a bit sad we didn’t get to be in Fal’ran’s head right after Patrick confessed what he confessed-that would’ve probably brought it right back up to 5 stars 🤭
I enjoyed the camaraderie, the action and -surprisingly-the somewhat obvious introduction of new characters that mean another branch has spun off…
Though I’m reserving judgement on Dom. Really? Hmpf…

Excellent read for the mood I was in today!

I think this one might be my favorite in the series. The author does a great job of making every couple feel like a different couple. Nothing like same dialogue or witty comments. They read as their own relationship. It’s hard I’m sure to have so many different personalities but the author does a pretty good job of this

I was a bit hesitant to read another book in this series as the main storyline had seemed to be complete and I was afraid this would be an unnecessary extra but I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed it. We finally got to read Patrick's story and are introduced to some new characters along with seeing some familiar ones. The world building is still well done, and the overall storyline kept me interested. Can't wait to see what happens next.
