The Camino Inglés is a smart choice if you want to walk in 2022 and beyond.
The Camino Inglés spans one province, Galicia, and its capital is Santiago de Compostela, the hallowed goal of the centuries-old pilgrimage.
Did you want to thru-hike the famous pilgrimage trail, the 500 mile/800 km Camino Frances, but are rethinking because of the reduced beds and increased footfall? Do you worry about finding a bed, getting a meal or help on a six-week hike in a rapidly changing situation in Spain? Or, if you have already walked the Frances, are you looking for another camino?
The Camino Inglés is a shorter walking adventure for anyone of moderate fitness through quiet and beautiful landscape. The English Way or Camino Ingles is one of the most accessible and doable of them all. At 120 kms, you qualify for the coveted Compostela, the certificate that pilgrims have been awarded for over a thousand years. And in case of outbreaks, this Camino is completely contained in Galicia, so you do not need to navigate a maze of possible local restrictions across different provinces.
This book helps you achieve your Camino goal, by showing you exactly how to:
- Walk the Camino Inglés, a Galician route as old as the Camino Frances
- Prepare your mind, body and feet to enjoy the long walk
- Pack for a changed Camino
- Get your credencial and get it stamped safely along the way
- Find out about the new safety rules in Spain, from masks to handwashing
- Make sure you enjoy the food of the region, and not get hungry if cafes are closed
- Find out how to get a bed when albergues have reduced capacity or are closed
- Learn the Spanish words you need to know in la neuva normalidad
- Find out where to attend Mass along the way and in Santiago

About the author

Bestselling travel writer, tech nerd, pilgrim and mentor to rising authors. Mum, grandma & adventurer.
Susan Jagannath successfully combined a passion for reading, a love of writing and a fascination for technology, to create a career in technical writing. With over 50 technical manuals (not) to her name, she finally decided to use her writing and publishing skills for herself and write and publish her own books independently.
To her mild surprise, when her very niche books went bestseller regularly, she realised she had a system that could help others write and publish as well.
As an army brat and then military wife, her life included seven different schools, three universities and a couple of emergency evacuations from conflict zones. Travel and adventure were a normal part of life.
She now believes in seizing every opportunity to have a new adventure.
Whether it’s camping on the beach in Australia, trekking in the Himalayas, kayaking in Queensland, whitewater rafting down the Ganges, or walking the Camino in Spain and Portugal, her philosophy is to connect with people and create memories for a lifetime, (and disconnect from television and computer games).
Susan is now on the next adventure of her life, reinventing retirement, helping people write their first bestseller, and learning to be an awesome grandmother.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2016The Camino Inglés:6 days (or less) to Santiago is a delightful read about the less popular Camino Inglés or English Way of St.James, starting in La Coruña and ending in Santiago de Compostela.
I had no idea this Camino even existed so I thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the shorter trek. As the title suggests, it takes six days or less which feels considerably less intimidating than the month or more required to complete the more popular and arduous Camino Francés.
The book is easy to read, extremely practical and at the same time very inspiring. I particularly enjoyed Jagannath's humour which one finds evidence of throughout the book. For example, she writes, “If you feel blisters coming up, you need to treat them immediately. Walking on with blisters is not a good idea. Remember that you are a pilgrim, not a martyr!”
This is not just a book about how to complete the Camino Inglés but rather a guide about how to approach any worthwhile goal in life. But for those who have thought about doing a Camino and experienced cold feet syndrome, this is "must read". By the time you get to the end of this book there’s every chance you’ll be raring to go. If only I had known about this when I lived in Spain for two years. Now where did my passport get to?
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2018When I walked the Camino Inglés in June 2017, this was one of the guidebooks I used. I enjoyed reading this guide on my Kindle App the night before each stage. I often referred to it again before heading out for the day, and to look up points of interest.
First off, I love how she begins each day with a poem or quote. I thought the Irish blessing was a great way to start the chapter for Day One. And the one from The Hobbit for was so à propos for the toughest stage. She really put some thought into which quote to feature for each day.
But let’s get to the practical benefits of this guide. There are the requisites for any Camino guide such as daily walking distances, listings for accommodations, and elevation stats for each stage. Instead of maps embedded in the kindle guide, Susan offers a free PDF download of the maps which can be printed out.
Susan has lovely narrative and writing style that is humorous at times. I appreciated that Susan encourages pilgrims to split a few stages. Apparently, some pilgrims speed through the Camino Inglés in four or five days! I took her advice and split the first stage to stay in Neda.
I also split the hardest stage between Betanzos and Bruma. When I do this Camino again, I will also split the stage between Pontedeume and Betanzos to stay in Mino. Fortunately Susan mentions alternative options for pilgrims who want to take their time. My ideal Camino Inglés would be an 8-day walk so I can walk by water the first few days.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2016I love that this book is all practicality and no fluff. This isn't a romanticized retelling of an experience, this is nuts and bolts, how to WALK the Camino! This book has inspired me to believe that I can do more than I've imagined physically with real life advice on how to!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2018Last week, I read Chasing the Himalayan Dreams by this author and I knew I had to look up if she had written any other books. I got The Camino Ingles on my kindle and just finished reading it in just 2 sittings. and in One day I had gone from What is Camino Ingles to I must do my own Camino, to relive the experiences of the ancient pilgrims myself, of course, I know they had no maps, cameras and wifi yet the idea seems calling. The book is so detailed with clear step by step instructions, that there is no way one could go wrong! I just love Susan's writing style - clear, detailed and to the point, leaves no room for confusion. I love the author's motto which is so consistent in both of her books - Time to start your adventure is NOW, do not wait to be older, retire, when kids grow older... done with excuses. I have read many a travel books and blogs but I have never encountered such practical ideas down to pack 3 sets of underwears! in any other. Thank you Susan Jagannath for letting the rest of us believe in ourselves, that anything is possible! I can't wait to read about your next adventure!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2016Just finished reading this amazing little book. I've read 4 other books on Camino's, and although this is shorter and less descriptive - I know it's the book I'll come back to the most. Like the shorter Camino itself, the book is still packed full of everything you'll need for a great experience - without anything you don't. From the very beginning the book unfolds just how doable this shorter but exciting adventure is for the layperson. Especially when the training schedule starts out with a 1km walk each day and very simply, slowly and easily builds up to 15-20kms per day with back pack in toe. I had no idea how I was going to manage that and hold down a job/life etc, but the author really helps you factor those things in.
For me personally, I really appreciated the complete packing list and the Spanish phrases I would need to learn for the trip, as well as the route summary's with accommodation notes for each leg of the journey at the end of each chapter.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2023I liked the author’s cheerful conversational tone. However, I was very turned off and quite surprised by the frequency which the author encourages the use of a taxi or bus on the Camino! Unfortunately too, the editing was pretty bad in this book…It really should have been written with more care and proofreading. It felt like I was reading a draft at some points. Overall, the book has a lighthearted tone that made it fun to read but it will certainly be disappointing to readers seeking advice for an authentic Camino experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dream, a shorter walk to Santiago de Compostela as a tool to overcome difficulties
The idea to talk (and listen to) about this experience is particularly interesting for 2 reasons: a) you can do travelling at you own rythm. so even aged people can do b) you can enjoy this religious travel just organizing it good independently of your " filosophical beliefs". . So the journey- hike is for everybody, It can helps them talking with yourself.. and to a lot of other people too.. Susan gave us a well complete guide about what to do. Nice work for us. From Italy it is a long way. we reduced starting from France, i didnt know this Camino Ingles solution! Susan. your kind suggestions will encourage people to do.. even they are not so exercizied or a little bit lazy.. No excuse: this Camino Ingles we have to do once in our life and you makes our program/ plan easy.! . thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the writing style!
I'm planning to walk the Camino Ingles in Sept 2024. Awesome little book with lots of useful and practical information. Great Aussie humour. 'I am a peregrina, not a cultural guru.' That had me in fits of laughter 😁 Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars, Book gives good accurate information for anyone who wants to do the Camino
I read the book before walking the Camino, in Sept 2018, and just reread the newest edition, which has brought back my memories of the Camino. She paints an accurate picture of what the route is like, where to eat and what accommodations are available. This is a very doable and interesting experience which I would highly recommend. The book is a worthwhile read

5.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book very much
I enjoyed this book very much, especially since I walked (most of) the route last year. There's plenty of sound practical advice and terrific enthusiasm for what I too found a memorable experience. I was interested by the author's comment that the published distances for the various stages tend to be shorter than the distances she recorded along the Way. Although I didn't attempt to measure anything myself I think she is probably right about that. I wish I had allowed six days for my trip like the author. I tried to do it in five days with accommodation booked in advance and found I needed to miss out 17km in the middle by taking a taxi, which was a pity.
I originally bought this book as a Kindle edition but I liked it so much I bought the printed version a few days later. It's beautifully produced and a most welcome addition to my bookshelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars great read
Although it’s not the walk I plan this year I was in Ferrol a few weeks ago and drove from Santiago to get there
The book is a super description of the walk and the area
If you are looking for the whole trip laid out in easy steps
This is the book for you
