Sherlock Holmes and the Ebony Idol (The Early Casebook of Sherlock Holmes 3) Kindle Edition
Sherlock Holmes dons his boxing gloves to catch a killer…
London, 1876
When a pugilist dies at a local boxing demonstration attended by medical student Mr Stamford and his acquaintance Sherlock Holmes, a post-mortem reveals the death is due to natural causes.
But when the corpse of another boxer is discovered clutching a small wooden carving – the ebony idol – Holmes begins to suspect that sinister forces are at work.
His suspicions seem confirmed when the companions hear about a previous death in the ring.
Tasked by the man’s widow to bring his killer to justice, Holmes and Stamford are swiftly drawn into their most curious case to date.
Are the deaths connected? Is there a murderer at work?
Holmes must employ all his powers of deduction if he is to discover the truth of the mystery.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2022I found this book to be just as good as the authors other 2 in this series. I loved the connection to early boxing and finding out how it went from basically brute fights to a sport. The author captures Holmes in full yet again with all his brilliance and deductive powers of observation. The author brings to life some often wondered about times of Holmes's life in such a most excellent way.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2023The plot of this book is very wll thought out. It kept me guessing up to the end. The history of boxing in the story is most educating. I really enjoyed the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2022It’s no mystery that I enjoyed this book. Like the other two, getting insight of Holmes as a young man is interesting to as Holmesian like myself. It’s a good read! Go ahead and take a walk in the past.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2022This story lost my interest quickly. Too many charcacters and plots . Confusing and boring . I gave it 3 stars as I am disinterested in boxing but others may enjoy it.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2022This novel kept me in thrall to the very end. I had so many different hypotheses, bouncing from one to another until finally it was all sorted out. Whew! Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2022True to the Sherlock Holmes cannon, this book is an easy, intelligent read. Well paced and well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
I have now read the first three books in the series and they get better. It is interesting seeing the relationship between Holmes and Stamford develop. Also, seeing how Holmes had developed such amazing detecting skills at such a young age. Well worth reading if you like Holmes and crime novels in the Victorian era.
