The Fulbourn - Pitch & Sickle Book Five: The Diabolus Chronicles - Historical Fantasy Series Kindle Edition
After Lucifer’s disturbing visit, the quest to destroy the Blight takes on a desperate urgency.
Finding Lieutenant Edward Charters is paramount.
But what role does a mortal man play in Seraphiel’s dangerous game?
The angel has sent Pitch a talisman from beyond the grave, a seemingly innocuous watch that may be the key to ending the Watcher King’s dark legacy. But to learn its secret Pitch and Silas must find the man intended to carry it.
As the search for the lieutenant begins, the Horsemen find themselves gifted with something more precious than any angelic token. An evening of unexpected freedom.
A night that will deepen their intimacy and bring long-stifled feelings to the fore.
But what price will they pay for choosing breathless pleasure over rigid duty?
The Morrigan have not forgiven the destruction at the greensward. They are prepared to do whatever it takes to rid themselves of the Horsemen and heed the Watcher King's ghostly call.
The Fulbourn is Pitch and Silas's greatest threat yet.
A place that will drive them into the depths of their most terrible fears and seek to tear them apart.
They are closer than ever before but will that fragile new bond be enough to save them?
Or have the daemon prince and his ankou found the nemesis that will destroy them once and for all?

- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2022Each new installment of this series makes me dance with delight and shudder with dread. I love the intimate moments between Silas and Pitch, which are as restorative for me as they appear to be for the unlikely couple. I was over the moon with glee when they get a rare moment to themselves at the start of the book. So much so I was filled with dread knowing more torment awaited them.
Ah, but what peril the Fulbourn brings! I do love how utterly absorbing these books are when the action starts rolling. Just like with The Greensward, I absolutely didn’t want to put this down until I saw our heroes safe.
With this book we finally have much more understanding of the shape of things as schemes are illuminated. I won’t lie, the arduous tasks they have before them definitely have me worried about how this epic narrative may conclude—which, really, is a compliment to the author’s skill and writing. I’m so invested. D K Girl delivers both heart-pounding peril and utterly satisfying intimacy.
Bring on the Herlequin!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2023This book continues the story of Pitch and Sickle and all the characters around them. Their slow burn attraction between them, advances more in this book than the previous ones.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2024I had a very difficult time putting this book Down just to go to bed. It propels you through the darkness just to make sure Pitch and Sickle survive this horrendous and torturous ordeal!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024love the characters and how they change and grow throughout this series
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2023I really loved the cantankerous yet believable relationship between the two main characters and how well the companions all molded together for strength.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2023Another great chapter in the trials and travails of Pitch and Sickle! Their romance grows in depth, as the plot thickens! I can’t wait until their next adventure!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2022I feel like each book in this series is better than the last, and The Fulbourn, for me, was the best yet. This story was epic in every way, and had me desperately devouring the pages until the end.
This is the book Pitch & Sickle fans have been waiting for! So many questions were answered (although several new ones were created, of course), and there was so much more development of the blossoming relationship between our two foolish and unlikely heroes. Their hard-won romance is one for the ages, and this book left me breathless with it. Siiiiggggh.
This installment is filled with action, suspense, and more than a little terror (and teratisms, of course). Our favorite side characters fill the story out, but the Fulbourn is very much a book dedicated to the lengths Pitch & Sickle will go for each other. Though heartbreaking and torturous at times, we are given many heartwarming and intimate moments to help ease the pain.
My partner said I either had a “glorious smile” or a “very worried look” plastered on my face as I devoured this book in a span of 24 hours. I was voracious and refused to succumb to real life as I was transported by the author into their world. Now that I have my feet firmly back in my own life after finishing the book (and re-reading some choice passages!), I find myself wishing I could read it fresh all over again and experience all of the wonderful feelings it gave me as I read it. I can’t even remember the last book that left me feeling this way, if there even is one.
I fiercely adore Tobias & Silas. I will be counting down the days until their next adventure finds it’s way to my Kindle. Until then, I’ll have to make due with re-reading a few parts of this book that left me warmed to my core & grinning like a fool in love (…or two fools).
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2022Where to start? I loved this book for so many different reasons. As someone who’s watched Pitch and Sickle’s journeys from the beginning (gentle hint here to readers that if they haven’t already started with previous books in the series, it’s a good idea–and a true pleasure– to do so) this book had so many things I’d been wanting to see. Long held questions are answered, and, of course, new ones posed. There’s intrigue and action and machinations and magic and plenty of peril, be it emotional, physical, spiritual, and/or all three combined. There’s also, and I admit I’d been pining more than a bit for this, genuine progress in our protagonists’ relationship. It’s a mark of how easy it is to invest in Silas and Tobias, as individuals and a partnership, that I wanted them to have hundreds of moments that are sweet and hot and healing for them both: we don’t quite get that many, but there are a precious few and they’re more than enough to enrich the narrative and offset a bit of the darkness and pressure these two face (checks notes…constantly…) Each book in this series has pulled me in deeper than the last, and in the process of reading each one I’m sure it’s my favorite so far…which means now I’m waiting with baited breath for book 6 to appear. Well worth a read. *I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intense continuation of the story
I had to wait a bit after finishing this book before I could write a review because I needed the story to settle in my brain. This book is very intense as it continues the story of Pitch and Sickle and all the characters around them. The slow burn attraction between them definitely advances more in this volume than the previous ones and the overall story advances as well. This story is feeling more and more epic as it goes along.
