The Lost Heir is a mavelously romantic, gripping love story by Dorothy Mack. The main characters, Brianna and Christopher, are vividly drawn: beautiful, flawed, but redeemed by their good qualities. And their flaws can be forgiven when the reasons behind them are explained. This is a story of trust and forgiveness, and how essential they are to genuine love.

This book is fine, only the heroine is utterly helpless, spiritless and seems to think that nothing will change in her life even though with her father dead her house will soon belong to someone else and she is now Aunt to a very wealthy Earl.

She takes each snub and blow by going pale and bearing it with an easily overridden protest or stricken doe eyed look.

He is lightly fleshed out and not terrible but also not terribly interesting, and far too interested in a girl he's barely met, taking her side of things against people he's known all his life.

His fiancee was at least somewhat interesting, until she revealed herself to be a bitch, at which point I gave up, 25% in, as I knew I was not going to enjoy this book.

Your opinion may very, I just wasn't in the mood for this story and likely never will be.

This is a very good book and beautifully written. I did find it to have too much 'filler' at times but the story, which includes mystery, is very engaging.

Excellent book clean and well written, had a little mystery and a villain and a very strong h and H

I've liked all the other offerings by Dorothy Mack, but this one had far too much of the hero deciding everything for everyone and forcing the heroine to accept him.

This story is very interesting with an excellent plot and a bit of detective work all coated with romance. A pleasure to read it. Maria Rennard

The lead characters were disappointing and not very likeable. Very unlike the leads in Dorothy Mack's other books. The latter had heroines with character and humour.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't like the main characters much

It's a sad situation when you like the side characters better than the protagonists... I tried to like them, I really did. The storyline, the background, the plot, the other characters... all that was fine. But in the end not enough to compensate.

She was immature, holding on to grudges, behaving childishly, refusing to listen or see past her own desires... and he had moments of what I would dare to call sociopathy, making decisions and manipulating people without thought or guilt.

I didn't finish it. I reached a point where I was too disgusted and genuinely didn't care about their happy ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read

Another excellent book by Dorothy Mack. The book was well written and the plot quite entangled, although I think the 'baddie' was clearly identifiable at the beginning.
Brianna, the sweet heroine and aunt to the young unknown heir. Although Brianna was painfully shy at times she was able to hold her own against some of the aristocratic sticklers she encounters. Christopher Carbottee the displaced Earl was besotted by Brianna upon meeting her and whilst attempting to cover his feelings failed miserably in front of his betrothed, Lady Selina. Their were twists and turns in the story that kept me interested and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

A real glimpse into the Georgian world. From life in a small village as a kindly Rector’s daughter to becoming part of a magnificent estate and its interesting and dramatic goings on. Dorothy Mack is a brilliant writer who brings history to life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting plot, yet…
Reviewed in Australia on December 11, 2021
I just wasn’t wowed by the story. I found the characters rather staid and distant, and events progressed quickly with characters appearing (and disappearing), and interesting plot points being introduced and then dropped without further exploring. Villain was pretty obvious, and the romance element just didn’t work for me. Lady H was a great foil, yet not used to great effect. Perhaps this isn’t the Regency author for me?
