The Price of Winning: A High Stakes Romantic Suspense (London Calling Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 35 ratings

He’s the very last thing she wants. Which is too bad, because he’s also the exact thing she needs.

Madeleine Price is a former child star who paid a high cost for fame. Now, she’s a recluse with fear her closest companion.

When an act of random violence destroys her safe cocoon, she’s forced to accept the help of a man she heartily dislikes but offers her the best way out.

Sebastian Payne is an honorable man who also understands pain and grief. But rather than hiding away, he chooses action and takes the fight to his enemies. And he doesn’t accept losing.

When terrible circumstances catapult them together, he vows to shelter and protect Madeleine from further loss. What he doesn’t count on are his unwanted feelings for her.

Passion blooms as their forced proximity fans the flames of attraction. And while Sebastian tries to rein in his reluctant yet rampant desire, Madeleine has other ideas. She resolves to seduce him, forcing him to see her as a woman rather than just a responsibility.

But outside forces are gathering against them. Sebastian is orchestrating a dangerous dance to bring a sex trafficking ring to justice. And Madeleine has enemies of her own…

Can two opposites bridge the gap between them to find forever love? Or will tragedy strike again, this time costing them their lives?

About the Author

Kat Faitour lives in Wisconsin with her husband and two cats. She graduated with a B.A. in Economics from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and promptly decided to write romance. She also attended Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa where she studied cuisine, pastry, and wine. So, when not reading and writing, she can whip up a mean coq au vin. Or apple galette. Just don't expect both at the same time, because she's not that coordinated.

Kat Faitour is the author of romantic suspense stories with a dash of heat and loads of heart. Her characters are brave, daring, and adventurous, just like her!

Well…

Okay, nothing like her.

Kat lives in the upper Midwest of the United States with her stoic husband and two ridiculous cats. She’s never trained in Krav Maga, been a jewel thief, or flirted with an Interpol agent.

She is deathly afraid of bugs.

This is the fourth book in Kat Faitour's London Calling series. While we've met the main characters -- Sebastian and Madeleine -- briefly in a previous book, this novel is devoted to them. And I'm glad she decided to focus on these two, because they're complex and damned interesting.

The Price of Winning begins with action -- both sexy action and another kind. It's fast-paced and heartbreaking, all at once. The second half of the book is more complex, tackling an issue that's ripped from today's headlines (human trafficking) and combining it with the blooming romance between Seb and Madeleine. Trust me, Faitour weaves the two storylines together seamlessly into an emotionally punchy read.

I can't wait for the fifth book in this series!

Oh my goodness! The fourth book in the series is the BEST! Ms. Faitour and her books improve as time goes on! As with the others, I just couldn't put this book down once I started reading. The characters, action, suspense, drama, relationships are twisting, complex and yet wrapped up enticing you to want to know more about the story. I cannot wait until the fifth and final book in this series arrives! Thank you Ms. Faitour for giving us such great stories to read and get lost in. Congratulations and well done!

I all but gobbled this book like a turkey dinner, and it was twice as delicious, but I am already hungry for more. I anxiously await the fifth installment in this impossible-to-put-down series. More, please.

The characters Sebastian and Madeleine were still in my mind days after I finished the book. A sign of great and believable characters. This serie is among the best I have read in a long time.

I have read 4 of the 5 books in this series. This is a fantastic series. Kat Faitour is a fantastic writer. All the characters are very likeable and realistic. However, for me, this book is the best yet. Concentrating on Madeleine and Sabestian brings the stories and characters together, with some action thrown in. One of the other reviewers ( written in 2016) says it all. I will savour book 5 for a later date. It is like having a fantastic dinner, with great company (the characters) and now looking forward to a delicious desert. As it is said "leave the best for last". Well done Kat Faitour.

This series is page turning and I have read 4 of 5. I have found the characters are realistic and the things they live with and in some instances overcome have shaped their lives. The romance part is well done and the tension levels between the couples are believable. Great series.
