The Santa Claus (Men Of The World) Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 40 ratings

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me ... a Santa Claus.

It’s the holidays. A time Deacon Brady spends with his family in New York City during the most wonderful time of the year.

This year, things are different for the former Hollywood Soap Opera star and A-Lister. Now, Deacon Brady is unemployed, and at the brink of losing everything due to the Global Financial Crisis.

All he wants to do is enjoy the holidays, be with Brodie, and try to get his life back on track. That quickly changes however, when he meets the attractive and mysterious stranger known as Kris ... Kris Kringle that is.

With news from Brodie that will change Deacon’s life forever, can he find happiness with Kris for the holidays?

The Santa Claus is told through the eyes of multiple character points of view who appear in the Men of the World Series. The main character, Deacon Brady, his sister Kate, Brodie, his boyfriend, the mysterious and gorgeous looking Kris, and producer of Tainted Love, Dante. It serves as a prequel to the Men of the World Series and ties in to the events of the first book.

Merry Christmas.

J.O. Mantel is an Australian author, and he loves creating characters that his readers fall in love with. He always had a love for reading from a very young age, and at night, could be found curled under the covers with his favourite Roald Dahl or Morris Gleitzman book. When he finds himself in a situation where he doesn't fit in, or things get tough, he escapes to a world of fiction.

He has a huge passion for writing and tries to do as much of it as he can, while juggling two regular day jobs. J.O. doesn't write your typical romance stories or romantic characters because let's be honest, that's so boring and not what all readers want!

And sometimes it's not always about an Alpha male, your average heroine, characters falling in love, or happily ever after's.

It was when random strangers started talking in his head, that he realised there were stories that needed to be told. And who was he to argue? After all, everyone wants that fictional book boyfriend that's so deliciously perfect in every way, right?

When he's not sitting behind his desk at a computer, he's busy constructing his latest creation with his crazy Lego obsession.

After reading the first six Men of the World books, I decided to go back and read the prequel since I already had it. This book is set early in the first few chapters of book one: The Australian, filling in the gaps of some of Deacons' life after losing his job and Brodie and meeting Dante and joining the show.

Honestly, the love interest in this one, a mall Santa slash exotic dancer conveniently named Kris Kringle didn't really intrigue me the way some of the other characters do in this series. I was honestly more interested in the POV chapters of characters we don't typically get to see the POV of. Reading Brodie's POV just before the breakup, a few chapters from Dante, and even a chapter of Kate made this book incredibly worth it.

Because I loved getting to know more about these characters who have an influence on the main series - either through the painful history (Brodie) or their ongoing relationships with Deacon. And well, I absolutely love Dante so any time I get more Dante is good for me.

This is absolutely low angst with some pretty good steam. The book left a smile on my face and a fulfillment from getting that extra bit of time with these characters. However, the Men of the World series would not feel incomplete without the information. A perfect prequel.

    4.5 Stars

Let me start this review by stating that I’ve already read books 1-6, and I am hooked. I’m anxiously waiting for the last half of the series. When I heard the author was writing a prequel. I was game, and raring to go.

This is a quick read, set around the holidays. It technically is a Christmas book, BUT it had only one thing that was dependent on it being Christmas, and that is one Mr. Kris Kringle. I’m convinced Deacon never really believed that was his real name.

This novella was told from different points of view. Personally, I could’ve done without Brodie’s POV, but that’s just because I already knew the story, and hated him. I had zero interest in his thoughts. That said, if this is the first book you’ve read in this series, it wouldn’t be the same experience. You’re reading this book with fresh Deacon Brady virgin eyes. By the way...Deacon is a bit of a mess, but can you blame the guy? He’s had a rough year.

As always, it was a lot of fun catching back up with Deacon. I’m firmly on Team Deacon, so any time is a good time. He definitely keeps things interesting. It was good getting to spend more time with his sister, Kate. They’re very close, and it just makes him all the more endearing.

Mantel has created an intriguing world, and I’m happy to go along for the ride.

The Santa Claus is the story of Deacon and Kris. It's a prequel novella to the Men Of The World series, and I think it would be more enjoyable to read after you know some of those characters. Deacon is obviously the main character who will be featured in the rest of the Men Of The World series. (In this series he's a reality show contestant who meets 12 different bachelors in 12 different countries.) It's not clear whether Kris ever shows up again.

Deacon is a well-known actor but he has fallen on hard times. His show has been cancelled and his ex-boyfriend has pretty much stolen everything from him, so he's moved home with his family to nurse his wounds. On a shopping trip with his sister he meets Kris (yes his name is actually Kris Kringle) who is playing Santa at the mall. Over the course of the holiday season, they develop a friendship of sorts, and they explore the physical chemistry that simmers between them - which does wonders for Deacon's state of mind. But it's not clear whether they keep up their friendship once Deacon starts filming the reality show. We don't get much back story on Kris, other than he seems to care a lot for Deacon.

It's a cute, fast read, but I definitely think it will be enjoyed more if you know more about the rest of the series.

Before Deacon became the bachelor for the show Tainted Love we get the back story to what exactly happened after the financial crisis and how his relationship with Brodie spiraled.

He’s in New York licking his wounds at his parent’s house to spend time with the family for Christmas. When his sister arrives she refuses to let him have a pity party so she forces him to go to the mall to take pics with Santa. There he meets a very attractive Santa who just happens to be named Kris Kringle. Their chemistry is undeniable but after Brodie shatters his confidence Deacon is questioning all his decisions.

I didn’t think this short story would have added anything to this series but I was mistaken. It gave me insight into Deacon and his relationship with Brodie. I absolutely loved Kris Kringle. I hope he makes an appearance in the series again. Can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

You can’t help but love Deacon! His life’s a hot mess! Brodie is a snake in the grass! But Christmas wishes do come true. Is his name really Kris Kringle? Who cares he’s what Deacon needed. This a quick sexy read! Fantastic book.

Find out how it all came to be -- how Dante and Deacon crossed paths, what exactly happened between Brodie and Deacon, and who is the enigmatic Kris. Deacon seemingly has it all, but we already know (if we have read the Men of The World so far), that he has lost so much and finding his way back may be way more difficult than even he could have imagined. But fate is sometimes mysterious and sometimes, just sometimes, what happened before brings you to a place that you need to be now in order for a brighter, more beautiful future.

This is a novella that is a prequel to the series, which has 6 books out. I haven't read anything else in the series but I'm certainly intrigued.

Really enjoyed getting Deacons backstop with that awful Brodie. Seeing how Dante came up with his show. Can't wait to finish this series
