The Unexpected Santa (The Sin Bin Book 5) Kindle Edition
When a rugby bad boy butts heads with a retired Marine, which alpha male becomes top dog?
Scottie Monk came out of the womb angry at the world. He's selfish and bitter. "Bah humbug!" rolls off his tongue far easier than "Happy Christmas."
Gray Baird has dedicated his life to public service as a Marine Corps officer and later as a police chief. The decorated hero finds it impossible to ignore autistic twins in desperate need of holiday spirit. He'll be the grumpiest Santa in the world if it puts a smile their faces. And he'll drag a reluctant Scottie along for the ride.
This December, Gray and Scottie collide while unexpectedly playing Santa.
***The short story, The Unexpected Santa, is book five in Dahlia Donovan's international bestselling gay romance series, The Sin Bin. Each one features hot rugby players and the men who steal their hearts. This is not a stand-alone story. It is recommended that readers have read at least The Royal Marine prior to reading The Unexpected Santa.***

About the author

Dahlia Donovan wrote her first romance series after a crazy dream about shifters and damsels in distress. She prefers irreverent humour and unconventional characters. An autistic and occasional hermit, her life wouldn’t be complete without her husband and her massive collection of books and video games.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2018This short Christmas prequel to book six of the series was well done. It definitely intrigued me enough to not only want to read book six but the rest of the series as well. The MC's are both quite complex and each have their own issues. I look forward to see how they work toward becoming a couple. Over all an interesting introduction to these two people.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2017It's hard to say how many stars to give this one. Part of me thinks it's a shameless marketing piece. However, the storytelling is consistent with the entire series, and I LOVE that we are getting to understand what the heck is the deal with the very cranky Scottie. I can assure you, if you've read the prior Sin Bin books, you will like this one. Yes, it ends VERY abruptly. That was a disappointment and that's the marketing part. These books are normally NOT cliffhangers.
This author has created this world where former rugby playing friends have retired to. I love all these guys from Caddock to BC to Tens...all of them. Their group of friends crossed over with security expert friends and now local people. I love that Donovan creates characters of other cultures and gives us glimpses into them. In this particular story, I love that gruff old Gray is showing a tender side toward the autistic twins that Wyatt and Akash have taken under their wing. And Scottie. Scottie is a total jerk, just like prior books. But now we are getting to see why he is the way he is. It's a little bit heartbreaking. Now that Gray has got Scottie on the hook and is about to reel him in, things are also getting a little bit hot. Great hint of what's coming next. I honestly can't wait!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2018The eBook I read was just the initial story setting introductory chapters. The two lead characters are introduced, the stage is set for the story to develop. Enough of a taste to intrigue, and either read the whole book, or, because of the style and voice of the author, start at the beginning of the series and meet the full"team".
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2018This book has been on my TBR list since it came out. The blurb itself is very intriguing. This book is a great quick introduction into Gray and Scottie's story. I liked how the author gives us a tease on what to expect between these two.
The characters are very well written. I certainly started off not liking Scottie because his whole attitude just sucks. Gray is very likeable from the start. However, both characters are very arrogant and stubborn.
Dahlia Donovan does a great job with the pace of their relationship. It's a good slow burn that keeps you wanting more. A great start to Scottie and Gray's journey.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2018I'm not sure what I expected but this wasn't it, don't take this wrong it was a great read but definitely too short! I NEED Scottie and Gray's story and this was just a tease!!! Unexpedcted, light, and interesting. If you haven't read the rest of the series I wouldn't recommend starting here but I would definitely recommend you start finding out about the Sin Bin!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2021New to me author. This is a sort mm novella set in Wales. Main characters are Scottie and club owner and ex rugby player and Gray an ex USA marine and dominant. Set at Christmas time this book has just enough story to want to read more of this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2020I love this series! What a teaser for this book, though - this is going to be one of the best, I think. Chemistry is already there, and it’s just getting started!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2018This was a quick read to introduce us to the relationship of Scottie and Grey. I enjoyed seeing how things started and really can't wait to finish their story with their novel, The Lion Tamer. I also liked how much they came to care about the twins in this book. Those two are some great sub-characters that deliver a lot of punch to the books!

3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating
I have enjoyed this series but this book was a massive disappointment. Not the story but the HFN ending. If I had been aware of the HFN ending of this book I would not have purchased it. My pet hate. Otherwise an okay read.
