The Wrong Sister: Brother-in-law second chance romance (The South & Sexy Series Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 766 ratings

A tender, sexy 'second chances' story of family relationships and long-time unrequited love.

Attraction explodes between Fiona and Christian when they meet on the day he marries Jan, her beloved sister. The only way Fiona has coped is by hiding on the far side of the world. The only way Christian has coped is by leaving on business whenever she visits her family back home in New Zealand.

After five long, frustrating years Fiona has the heart-wrenching six-week assignment of caring for newly widowed Christian and his tiny daughter. Their mutual love and respect for Jan holds them apart. Will their lost love ever be given a second chance?

Billionaire Christian would rather spend time with anyone except the tempting woman who reminds him so much of his cherished wife. But Fiona has leave from her cruise-liner job and seems determined to do her family duty. Passion and temptation simmer between them as they get to know each other again. This sensual feel-good romance novel is heart-warming, steamy and bittersweet. How can craving the wrong sister feel so right?

'Pearson's latest sizzles with passion and misconceptions as two souls struggle past social conventions to the love on the other side. Readers will relish the characters and will be praying that love will in fact triumph over convention. As Fiona and Christian struggle against it, their passion spills over, burning both of them in the process.'

From the Author

I like gently pushing the boundaries in my novels. In 'Out of Bounds', there's a whiff of incest. In 'Seduction on the Cards', my heroine has a gambling problem. In 'Resisting Nick', my teenage hero could barely leave under-age Sammie alone. (A good thing they both grew up before the book started!)
In 'The Wrong Sister', I've explored the attraction between a sister and brother-in-law. Nothing unacceptable. No giving in until it's legally possible. But it makes for an edgy story with a lot of yearning and delayed passion.
My hero Christian loved his wife Jan dearly, but he was so drawn to his sister-in-law Fiona that he knew he had to get right away whenever she visited.
For her part, Fiona sensed the crackling tension, and became super-aware when Christian was present. And then Jan died. Everything was now possible. Except, of course it was now even
less possible.
Join Christian and Fiona as fate traps them in his luxurious cliff-top home in Wellington, New Zealand. Temptation assails them at every turn, but they need to resist. What they both want is far too much and far too soon. This time it's Fiona who leaves, but there are still a few weeks before she's due to resume her cruise-liner job on the other side of the world...

Thanks for coming to meet me. I love words, and I use them to make the world a happier place by creating people who are perfect for each other – although maybe they can’t see that to start with.

I began writing at my local radio station in New Zealand and never stopped. TV followed, then horticultural articles (because I'm a keen gardener). After several advertising agencies, I then spent happy years as a retail ad manager. Totally hooked on fabrics, I surprised everyone by going into the curtain installation business with my husband and working for some of the capital city’s top designers. Good for my body, and it freed up my brain to write fiction. I didn't fall off my ladder once through drifting into romantic dreams, but I’ve certainly seen many beautiful homes and met wonderful people, and I may just have stolen glimpses of them for the books. (I didn’t say that, did I?)

I write sexy contemporary romance under my real name and the Merry Summerfield cozy mysteries as Kristie Klewes. These are funny and flirty and absolutely clean. (Well - apart from the bloodstains!)

I’m the author of more than thirty novellas and novels, three of which were finalists in New Zealand’s Clendon Award. Each can be read as a stand-alone, but some make up linked series. I hope you enjoy them all.

My more recent romances are billionaire beach stories about the wealthy Wynn family in Scarlet Bay - Summer Sparks, Summer Secrets, and Summer Spice. And the new Promise books - Promise You Nothing and Promise You Plenty.

Kris es una chispeante autora de romántica contemporánea, pura y simplemente. ¡Bueno, quizá no tan pura!

Romantic and sizzling hot story between Fiona and Christian. After Fiona’s sister dies, Fiona stays temporarily with Christian (her deceased sister’s husband) to help him with his baby and take care of a few things. However, both Fiona and Christian are head over heels in love with each other and have been for years, but they feel that they cannot act on it or even express it because he’s the husband of her sister who has recently passed away, and they don’t know that the other feels the same way. The sexual tension is so intense and keeps building between them. I loved this story — it pulled at my heart from beginning to end and I could not put it down. Well written and well edited, super hot and sexy, I will definitely read more by this author! I highly recommend this!

This is a different kind of love story. It is one that will make you think. The hero is a wealthy businessman in new Zealand. his young wife has died of breast cancer and has left him with a 2 year old daughter. His sister-in-law has taken leave from her job to stay with him and help him get back on his feet. He clearly wants her gone. Or so it seems. Lots of times things are not as they appear. He loved his wife and was faithful to her completely but she is gone and he is hurting. He has always had feelings for the other woman that looks so like his wife. he has never acted on his feelings. He made sure that he was out of town when she visited and he worked hard at keeping those feelings he experienced pressed down. But now she is in his house, in his thoughts and within easy reach.

Most of the story is about the two of them going through serious bouts of guilt, despair, lust, etc. They know that even though they never betrayed her sister there is no way the two of them can be together. Society would never accept it and would think badly of both of them. Until his wife takes control of the situation. It was a good story. Lots of sex so if that is a problem for you, better pass on this one. it was a thought provoking story and I would definitely advise reading it with an open mind and heart. A good read.

Just a personal note -- I have a young neighbor that has a story much like this one. His young wife discovered a lump in her breast right after giving birth. The doctor assured her it was a swollen milk gland and to not worry about it. About 4-6 months later the area became so painful that she couldn't stand to be touched. After tests, etc. it was discovered that it was cancer, aggressive, and not much they could do. I have learned that this age group for women has the highest rate of deaths from breast cancer. I wonder if a lot don't detect it because it is assumed it is a swollen milk gland. Anyway, she went through every treatment possible. Chemo, etc. Even some experimental drugs were tried. Nothing worked and she just got sicker and sicker. Less than 3 years later she had passed. He said that he loved her and that if the cancer had not been there they would still be married today but that with her so sick she really left him long before she passed. She did stay at home until the very end. Her family helped him with her care and he had everything else. He took care of the baby, worked fulltime, prepared all the meals and did the housework. I really don't know how he did what he did at such a young age himself. So this story I just read could have been his in a way. We just don't know what a surviving spouse goes through emotionally, physically, etc. so it is very unfair for the rest of use to pass judgment on them for what they do or don't do. I really think the hero in our story loved his wife. I think he probably lusted after the sister!! But then I think he did love her at the end. My friend did eventually marry again. And, he seems to be happy.

I was not paid for my review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am a reader and this is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

When I started reading this book I didn't want to like it. I mean, I am very happily married and have a younger sister who's gorgeous. The contents of the story made me feel that the characters were being very disrespectful to the dead. Well, 2 chapters in and I was hooked. The characters are very likable and I was rooting for them both. This book is HOT and I could not put it down. Very well written, easy to read and makes New Zealand sound amazing. I have always wanted to visit and now I have to.
If you want a nice, easy to ready, sexy book, this is the one for you. Perfect for the beach, I suggest you read it with a big, cold glass of wine beside you.

There were things that I liked about the story. For one there was no cheating. Fiona and Christian didn't get together until his wife/her sister died. Then after his wife died Christian didn't go out and try to bang OW to forget about wanting Fiona and/or trying to heal his grief over losing his wife. Too many times that happens in romances like these, where you have a heroine pining over a hero that she shouldn't have because of someone else. Then the someone else is out of the picture but instead of turning to the heroine the hero turns to OW first. Totally makes me mad. Also in this story they both wanted each other and had for years. It was not just one sided. In addition, it was implied that the heroine was with OM after meeting the hero because she was on birth control when they got together. Therefore while the hero is with his wife the heroine is not in a sexual deep freeze which would also really bother me if she was. I cannot stand that, where the hero is with OW after meeting the heroine but she loses all interest in OM because she only wants the hero. Just no.

Also unlike some of the other reviewers I wanted Christian loving and wanting Fiona more than he did his wife. Fiona, not his deceased wife, is the heroine. I always want the hero to love the heroine/want the heroine MORE than he does anyone else, including a deceased spouse. (I feel the same way about the heroine and OM). Also it bothered the reviewers how quickly Christian seemed to move on. It didn’t bother me. Actually it seem to take forever b/c of how long they wanted and thought about each other. Also if a hero is mourning for years one of two things seem to happen sometimes both. The hero is more likely to screw OW, as stated above and I tend to lose interest because the hero and heroine are not romantically together.

Why not a 5 or 4 star rating? Because while there was a lot of sexual chemistry and foreplay when they finally did the deed, it fizzled. It was a dud. We have 75% of the story of them getting hot and bothered with each other, thinking of all the sexual stuff that they want to do to each other. Along the way there is some making out and touching. Then when they finally do the deed it is lukewarm, lacking in passion. It is like a couple of sentences and not hot, at all. I want hot sexy times in my romances including the final act and that didn’t happen here. It was all tease with no satisfaction, at least for me.

What a captivating and truly delicious read. Kris has a super scenario compiled for the readers enjoyment. I love the strong struggle of Christian, the widower, coming to terms with the loss of his much loved wife. And then there is Fiona, strikingly resembling her sister, his wife. Love never runs smoothly and this story is full of will they, won't they. It's passionate, soul-breaking and a fantastic read that you will not be able to put down. What a great romance!
