How many times can a heart break before it becomes completely irreparable? I knew it! I knew that Ashley and Drew’s story was going to be a tough one. I knew that this book was going to HURT SO GOOD!     BJ Harvey waited 4 years for a five-star review from me, and now she has had two on the trot. I absolutely adored Second Chance, but she blew it out the water for me with Third Strike, my new favourite of this series. This is testament to how her writing has grown in leaps and bounds and as she adds layers, depth, builds the angst, her character connection and a huge dose of emotion she has crafted a winning series.

    “I’ll make it right, then I’ll make her mine. I promise.”

    Third Strike is almost all written through the male POV with our hero, Drew. Drew has been a side character throughout this series, and now BJ Harvey has given us his story, and what a doozy it was. There is something for everyone in this book, with second chance romance, best friends’ sister and a forbidden love trope that was executed to perfection. Spanning more than a decade, BJ Harvey ramps up the angst as Drew fights his love for someone he knows is totally off-limits and no matter which way he swings, he knows he will lose someone…the love of his life, or his best friend.

    “I’d never want to hurt you. This is the only time I’ll ever do it willingly.”

    Throughout this series we have had glimmers of Drew as a character and if you thought you knew him…scrub the slate clean, because Drew is something else altogether. Drew wears his heart on his sleeve in this book and BJ Harvey cuts him open for the reader to see, there was no hiding for Drew in this book. The angst, the heartbreak and the pure devastation is testament to the deep-rooted feelings that both these characters have for one and other and knowing on the other hand that it would never, ever work.

    “I’m a hot mess, wrapped up in a cloud of f$$k-ups, with no light at the end of the tunnel to show me the way to future happiness.”

    My heart was put through the wringer in this book, every ounce of compassion, love and anger were expertly extracted as the tears fell, the frustration built and the anger bubbled to uncontrollable levels. If you have read this series you are well aware of she who shall not be named, and she is back to her vile best in Third Strike. This book was pure torture at times, but those are often the best kinds of books, infuriating, heart-breaking, heart-warming, stunningly beautiful, emotional and down-right tragic at times.

    “You’re either all the way in or you let me go. One of us has to draw a line in the sand.”

    Drew will capture your hearts as easily as he did Ashley’s, Millen’s sister and our flawed hero’s heart is pulled in all directions. Despite being confident, assured and sexy as hell, Drew still has his issues and being the “adopted” son of Millen’s family only pulls his moral compass even further from his hearts. Drew had so much to lose and always tries to do the best he can to juggle all the balls and keep everyone happy, even if that meant he was the loser in the end. Drew is the king of mistakes as he fumbles through his conscience and what his heart is telling him, but his heart was always in the right place. There is so much I want to spill, but I cannot ruin it for you, but wrap your Kindle in bubble wrap, as it is in for one hell of a bumpy ride. I cannot wait to see what comes next from BJ Harvey as we sadly say goodbye to this motley crew.

    This is a story that has been simmering away in the background of the first two books and it’s finally Drew’s time to shine… well that is a slight exaggeration, more like his time to finally get his life together is more apt?

    This story begins with a prologue, one that this author loves to dangle in front of the reader to build the anticipation of what is to come. A few bombshells are dropped and then we go back to the beginning of how Drew first met Ashley and how their friendship developed over the years.

    Drew has been flirting with Ashley since they were a young. However, she is forbidden fruit, his best friends baby sister. There are many reasons why he should stay away from her but there has always been this pull between them. Harmless flirtations as teenagers has led to many stolen moments between them. Most of them were times when Drew was entrusted with Ashley, as in his best mate was counting on him to look out for his sister.

    They have been there for each other through tough times and happy times but it has always been a carefree, casual thing. They may often go off in their own directions, sometimes for several years, but all roads seem to lead back to each other. It’s like there is an unspoken promise, that they belong to each other.

    They have never made a commitment to each other, how could he when Drew knew that Ashley would be better off with someone better than him. Someone that could give her everything she deserves. Why then does the thought of her settling down with someone else make him insanely jealous? Everyone knows the drill with these FWB arrangements right? It’s all fun and games until ‘feelings’ comes down the slide at the playground.

    To add to the complication of what they have together, Drew has a baby daddy drama to deal with plus the crazy mother of the baby drama. He has let his best mate down time after time and disappointed people he truly care about. He knows that if he is to ever have a real chance of a future with Ashley he needs to get his shit together to be the man worthy of her.

    This is a story that spans twelve years with a beautifully flawed man who desperately seeks his happy ever after with the girl he gave his heart to as a young man. Drew, you have redeemed yourself ☺

    New to me author! Ok so I listened to this book in one day at work. I was pulled in because I love the narrators voice and was told that this would be a good one.... It was not a good one. It was freaking awesome. I can not even come up with a word for how great it was to me. This was the story of a man that made some really stupid mistakes, but they came from a misguided sense of loyalty. Drew was raised by his mom and had no other family. It always seemed like there was something else to kick him down. There were so many great moments in this book! I cried more times that I care to admit.... and then by the end I was full on ugly crying! I cried happy tears.... I cried sad tears.... I cried sexually frustrated tears! I cried ALL THE TEARS!!! I went into this book with no knowledge of anything in it other than I love the male narrator so I was not at all prepared for the angst and emotional reaction I was going to have to it. This was a beautiful story of never giving up, there as so much heart in this story. I literally felt raw after I was done.... and here I am 8 hours later and I am still feeling emotionally drained! It took me for a ride with all the highs and lows! I am so glad that I listened to the recommendation because I feel like I have honestly found a total gem with this book and I am going to be looking into more books by BJ Harvey because I am hooked now. I can see myself listening to this book over and over.... and reading it too... I want to find some time to read it because I just KNOW that there are some passages that I want to highlight! If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would... this is absolutely in the category of "WTF did I just read?!?!?!" I would recommend that everyone one ONE-CLICK this book RFN! And if you like audio add that too!!! It is SO worth it!!!

    I have wanted to read Drew's story since he first appeared in One Shot.
    Drew and Ashley have had an again/off again relationship for years.
    B. J. Harvey pulled out all the angst for this one. What I loved most was it was told from Drew's perspective. The full timeline is there, from when he first meets Ashley, right up to Millen and Kenzie's wedding and beyond.

    Drew is put through the wringer of emotions throughout the story and my heart broke for him at one point. The emotion that poured from one particular scene was amazing. So much so, I cried as I read it, and it takes a lot for me to cry! But man oh man, the feels were all there!

    Ever since I read her first book, B. J. Harvey has been on my 'One-click' list. This book is another one that solidifies that status.

    I have been impatiently awaiting the arrive of Third Strike, and Ms Harvey has not disappointed.

    If you have read the previous two books, you will remember Drew and Ashley - Millen's best friend and his sister.

    Firstly, if you have read my One Shot review, you will remember that I was not a fan of Millen - and I didn't get 10% into this book before he was pissing me off again.

    But I digress - Drew and Ashley.

    Theirs is a story that spans a decade, and spanned the whole range of my emotions.

    Drew's life is all kinds of messed up, and there are people in his life that I just want to throat punch. I am sure you will too when you get reading.

    This book is such a heartbreaking, emotional rollercoaster of a story. I may have shed a tear or two as I was reading.

    I don't want to give anything away, as you need to feel the rush, the anger, the hurt, the love all for yourself.

    I am going to miss this gang now that the series is over.
