Time and Blood (Evening Bower Book 1) Kindle Edition
But one creature survived.
Rhea is a scarlet phoenix and the last of her kind. She escaped Atlantis with The Great Book and for over ten thousand years roamed the earth, grieved for her lost immortal beloved, and endured nightmares from her past lives. Today, she hears a familiar voice on the wind luring her to a new place. Rhea follows and hopes for the impossible.
She crossed millennia to find him.
Jean-Louis is a 250-year-old vampire in New Orleans. For fifty years, nightmares plagued him, and a violent wind haunted him whispering in a foreign tongue. In his dreams, Jean-Louis sees the face of a woman he knows and aches for but has never met. He feels her approach; however, the vampire senses a connecting malevolence waits in the shadows.
He risks his immortality to keep her.
An accident will bring Rhea into Jean-Louis’ arms. The shock will give new life to the ancient prophecy. But others whisper of the legendary phoenix and are hunting for Rhea. They must steal The Great Book and prevent any chance of the prophecy’s fulfillment. If they fail, the phoenix must die.
Together they battle destiny for the future.
Rhea will risk everything for love, even death.
When time and blood converge, blood must win.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2017Sherry Rentshler, a vampire scholar and dragon collector, has gifted us with an interesting, eye-opener in “Time and Blood”. Her book is like a spotlight into the dark life of vampires and the paranormal, and we hear someone say: “We will give you a look into our lives. Don’t be surprised. We are as cruel as Man is. But we also have the gift of “sacred union”. You will see this as we fulfill a prophecy long made when our species were more like one.” Coming from an established author, this book and her story carries with it an associated authenticity as she opens up to us the world of the paranormal, vampires, cult history and fantasy.
The background to the book is the Atlantis era when Man slid from his pinnacle of greatness, and became savage animals killing those he previously worked with, including the Phoenix and Dragons who overlooked him. “This prophecy” (written in the Great Book of Forgetting, “ promised mankind a new future, one hinged on the survival of the scarlet phoenix and their connubial love. Two names are mentioned. “ The dragon sage foretold that my mate and I would break the twisted fabric binding convention and expectation. A new power would rise….” But, “the heinous murder of the phoenix’s mate obliterated this promise and destroyed destiny.”
So Ethyrea, the Scarlet Phoenix, went into self-imposed exile, and over time, she “transmorphed” and became immortal. Now Rhea, she is the custodian of the Book of Forgetting, and is followed by others wanting to take it. In her dreams, she hears calls from her long dead Atlantean lover, Khnuman. Can she believe that he is alive? The attendant question is, if so, can they pursue the fulfillment of the prophecy”. Khnuman is also appearing in the dreams and speaks to vampire, Jean-Louis. “Blood calls to blood”, and together the three seek to fulfil the prophecy. How they do it is, and the result of its fulfillment are the key threads of the story. Don’t try to guess, just read on.
And that is what this well written book will have you do as it provides us with an understandable view of the life of vampirism, magic, and the pursuit of love, and lore. The writing is quite clear in its depictions. Compared to the usual crunch of teeth and necks that we associate with vampires feeding, there is something very endearing of this depiction: “The blood called as surely as any voice. I wanted to give into it all. I kissed her again, trailing my hungered lips down along her neck and across her chest. The round tops of her breasts rose divinely over the low neckline of her gown, and my tongue danced over her flesh. I wanted to drink her from here, from this softness and this beauty.” There is suspense, excitement, and adventure to keep you riveted. The book definitely urges you to read it in one sitting. I hope the sequel is as good as this first in the series.
I like the way the plot develops: individuals and friends; focus on the trio for the solution; individual chases, then a battle of vampires, laced with weapons of magic and bathed in poisons; and the final achievement. All inspire excitement and expectation; the last was downright anxiety-provoking, and I was especially happy for the mantra:” Blood calls to blood’ which saved Rhea’s life in the end.
I think the author did a very good job with the characters – loyal Franklyn (was he a vampire?); don’t-mess-with-Drahomira and her dog; Victoria and her magic. I like Rhea’s friendships and their loyalty. I grew to like the overlaps of the individual telling of events as serving the purpose in linking events backward and forward, but at times this seemed overdone. And at times I struggled with the many names of the persona that used to be Jean-Louis, sometimes being used in quick succession. But like me you can get around this by choosing one name, unless otherwise directed.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2017Time and Blood by Sherry Rentschler it is a story full of imagination, fantasy, adventure, romance and suspense, about the phoenix that survived when Atlantis was swollen by the sea, the name of the phoenix that survived the tragedy of Atlantis carrying The Great Book of Forgetting is Reha,
as a supernatural creature she is able to travel in time to find with a vampire named Jean-Louis that with her will allow the resurrection of the prophecy written in the book and from there on the plot is about how to stay together in this huge romance that develops between them and also to take care of the book that others want to steal to prevent the prophecy to come true. The pace of the novel is quick, the plot is well described and has many twist and turns, the characters are very real in their supernatural status and the book embraces you till the end with his supernatural background.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2017When I read the reviews about Time and Blood I was completely sold and decided to try even if I wasn’t convinced by the summary given. I was right. The author is extremely talented and creates an amazing story, filled with so many details that add so much to the plotline. The characters are great, three-dimensional, multi-layered, and imperfect. Yes, this is a supernatural romance, so expect chapters talking about destiny and love and soul mates. But there is a lot more to it. The story does not go flat. It lives up to the expectations, creating a story that has a lot more to it than your traditional romances.
I was very impressed with the quality of the writing and how complex and well-built the world is in the novel. The author really does a splendid job delivering an incredible flow to it, where everything just feels in the right place and nothing is misplaced. Great literary work and attention to details.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2017Time and Blood (Evening Bower Book 1) by Sherry Rentschler is a supernatural story which spans several centuries. In the beginning, there was man and the supernatural creatures around him. Atlantis was the home of man and one creature lived in harmony with him and fascinated him: the phoenix. The Phoenix chose eternal mates and would go through their burning at the end of a life cycle only to be reborn out of the ashes of their own passing. Their beautiful feathers drew the attention of man, and eventually began to draw his jealousy. As we know, jealousy can lead to other horrible things and soon man was hunting the phoenix for their feathers. The phoenix fled, but man followed and soon began to kill in order to get what they want. It was then that man discovered the blood of a phoenix can give eternal life. Suddenly, man was no longer jealous but was committing murder. The phoenix began to fight back until eventually there was only one phoenix left. Her name was Rhea and she has come to live among the humans in disguise, blending in while not being one. She still mourns the loss of her mate, but has come to forgive man for the horrible act. Still, she remembers the prophesy that was told of two phoenix which would change the future for the supernatural creatures of the world. Then one night, she hears her name over the ocean as if called by a very familiar voice. Could it be her mate, returned after all these years or is something more sinister taking place.
I really enjoyed this read. The opening was my favorite part because of the way the phoenix went through such a dramatic change both emotionally and visually. Mankind is again painted as the villain in the story, but it makes sense because we usually find a way to mess things up in the first place. I like that this is the beginning of a series and I look forward to what else the author has in store. There were a few typos throughout the narrative, but not enough to distract from the story. I would have liked more action spread out throughout, but the story still moved at a good pace.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Fantasy Story!
Time and Blood (Evening Bower Book 1) written by Sherry Rentschler is not your typical fantasy book. This novel is beautifully written and the writing really showcases the extreme talent of Sherry Rentschler. I loved the detail that went into this novel and really enjoyed the unique plot. The story starts off with the reader being introduced to magical creatures, dragons and their cousins, phoenix type creatures that live alongside man. Both man and creature evolve, man falls into chaos and eventually desecrate the majestic creatures that once were friends. The creatures evolve and the divine word is bestowed, a wonderful prophecy is born speaking of how the phoenix will bring man out of chaos. I truly loved this unique story and highly recommend it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I found the jumping between characters slightly hard to follow, as in the beginning all the names were not linked to characters yet. As the novel progressed, I found it easier to follow and the writing was captivating. I highly recommend this book, especially those who love fantasy stories that involve things like dragons, elves, magic, fae, vampires, etc. Great read!
