Time for a Change: A grumpy vs sunshine gay romance Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 258 ratings

What if the last thing you want, might be the very thing you need?

Stuffy and uptight accountant Michael’s life is exactly the way he likes it: ordered, routine and risk-free. He doesn’t need chaos and he doesn’t need anything shaking it up and causing him anxiety. The only blot on the horizon is the small matter of getting his ex-boyfriend Christian back. That’s exactly the type of man Michael goes for: cultured, suave and sophisticated.

Coffee shop employee, Sam, Is none of those things. He’s a ball of energy and happiness who thinks nothing of flaunting his half-naked muscular body and devastating smile in front of Michael when he’s trying to work. He knows what he wants—and that’s Michael. And no matter how much Michael tries to resist him, he’s not going to take no for an answer.

Sam eventually chips through Michael’s barriers and straight into his bed. But Michael’s already made some questionable decisions that might just come back to haunt him. He’s got some difficult choices to make if he’s ever going to find love. And he might just find that he’s too set in his ways to make the right ones quickly enough. If Michael’s not careful, the best thing that’s ever happened to him might just slip right through his fingers. Because even a patient man like Sam has his limits.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

H.L Day grew up in the North of England. As a child she was an avid reader, spending lots of time at the local library or escaping into the imaginary worlds created by the books she read. Her grandmother first introduced her to the genre of romance novels, as a teenager, and all the steamy sex they entailed. Naughty Grandma!

One day, H.L Day stumbled upon the world of m/m romance. She remained content to read other people’s books for a while, before deciding to give it a go herself.

Now, she’s a teacher by day and a writer by night. Actually, that’s not quite true—she’s a teacher by day, procrastinates about writing at night and writes in the school holidays, when she’s not continuing to procrastinate. After all, there’s books to read, places to go, people to see, exercise at the gym to do, films to watch. So many things to do—so few hours to do it in. Every now and again, she musters enough self-discipline to actually get some words onto paper—sometimes they even make sense and are in the right order.

A Great Story
A great story by this author even though Michael frustrated me at times and I sometimes wished that Sam have given up but in the end patience paid out.

To be honest, when I first started this book, I had a hard time liking Michael. Especially the brusque way he spoke to Sam when they first met. But similar to the way Michael made assumptions about Sam when they met at the coffee shop where he chose to work, you need get to know the reasons behind Michael's gruff nature the more you read. Also, you learn more about Sam and the energetic, sometimes manic way he moves and acts, and you realize that both men have issues they need to work through. But one thing I loved was the connection between Michael and Sam, and the realizations both come to when the slowly fall in love. Another wonderful read and highly recommended!!

This was a well written book. The characterizations were well fleshed out and believable. In fact so believable I began to dislike Michael almost as much as Christian! Talk about uptight, clueless, closed off, socially inept and thoughtless. The only good decision he made was reluctantly becoming involved with Sam. And that decision was because of Sam's persistence in perusing Michael.
I could not understand Michael's continued reluctance to acknowledge his growing feelings for Sam. He apparently accepted his one sided relationship with the self absorbed shallow in the extreme Christian and even wanted to rekindle that self destructive relationship. Why couldn't he see the best thing that ever happened to him?...Sam.? His self blindness was really a turn off. Thank goodness Sam was so persistent.
As these romance stories usually evolve, it took an instant of miscommunication and hurt feelings to have an OMG moment of realization on Michael's part that he really did love Sam and that he had to work hard to open up and prove it to Sam. In doing so, he somewhat redeemed himself to me. I can't say I would have persisted quite so long in trying to win Michael over as Sam did but I am glad that he did and that Michael's innate personality shortcomings grew into a more open and demonstrably loving persona.

I enjoyed a lot this book, it was a huge surprise how good it was considering when I bought it there was only one review posted and this seems to be the first book for the author. I very seldom post reviews, but in this case I kept returning on it to see if it collected more reviews and it's a shame it's not happening!

Give it a try! The characters are so different, but well done and real! I was totally falling for Sam, for the way he battles real difficulties without giving up, for his persistence in front of so many unfair situations. The end is excellent, I read it many times because I loved the idea and the way it was written.

I honestly hope the author will publish something else soon, I'd love to see if she can deliver to the high expectations she set with this book.

This is a pretty good read. I have no real complaints beyond taking a while to warm up to one of the MCs. Sam was adorable and I loved his attitude. I wish more focus had gone onto him rather than Michael. I also wish that by the end of the book he'd have had a better acceptance of his ADHD and didn't see it as something shameful or wrong with him. Michael...was a grumpy jerk for a lot of the book. When he wasn't grumpy, he was wishy washy. He crossed the line too many times, I'm not sure why Sam gave him chance after chance, or that Sam SHOULD have given him another chance. But he isn't all bad. He's still getting over a bad break up (his ex is terrible and I honestly don't know what he saw in him). He never treats Sam like he's broken when it comes to his ADHD, it's never an issue or something to be tolerated. It's just part of Sam. So that's a good point in his favor. Sam's sister was...not my favorite and I don't care what excuse is spun. She was out of line, repeatedly. I don't see her actions as "loving" or "supportive" or "protective" at all. I've already said Micheal's ex Christian is terrible, but it bears repeating. He's so immensely hateable. That it took most of the book for Michael to finally see through him and cut ties is frustrating. But the Michael has a lot in common with him for most of the book, until Sam breaks through his snobbery.

But really, overall, there's some sweetness with Michael and Sam, and Michael's cats. It makes it worth it. I do like them together

    I LOVED IT!
This is a really good story!
This is not only a nice, slow burn love story, but also a book about dealing with ADHD, rejection and insecurities. I absolutely LOVED Sam, he is soooo sexy and sweet. I had a little problem with Michael since he was so unbelievably hung up on Christian, he was often hurting Sam :(

This is a lust-at-first-sight kind of a story and if You're looking for some scorching hot MM action this is definitely something for YOU!

This is a very enjoyable and relaxing read, apart from some misunderstandings between MCs there is almost no drama. This is a PERFECT READ to just sit and chill out <3

I love this story, Sam was such a happy, playful, sweetheart who fell for Michael, a grumpy fart. I did love Michael, he meant well but he drove me crazy! He had no idea how to deal with such a man as Sam, especially a gorgeous man with ADHD. Michael is not open or expressive, he likes sex but only at night, in the dark. Sam loves to touch to play around and be silly. Can this two work? There is angst here and a lot of frustration while you read it, thanks to Michael, but it’s a great story.

I love this book. Rounded characters. Humour. And a perfect ending. Relationship not rushed with gushing declarations that don’t feel true, instead the author makes you wait, on tender hooks, for the realisation and it’s worth it. Will be searching out more from this author.

Aah, this was adorable. I finished the book in a single day because I just couldn't put it down.

I did think Michael was an idiot in the beginning, which is why his character development impressed me so much.

Definitely a grumpy vs sunshine story. Sam is as bright as the sun but also shows vulnerability. Michael is very socially awkward that means he messes everything up and has no idea. The story focuses a lot on Sam's ADHD and this book cleverly doesn't use this to his disadvantage. It's Michael's uprightness and awkwardness that is the big problem between them. Slightly frustrating but I guess that shows how grumpy he is. Glad they got their HEA.
