Torpedo Treasure: The last defence in a deadly war against terrorism (Depth Force Submarine Thrillers Book 14) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 422 ratings

An unputdownable submarine thriller! Perfect for fans of Douglas Reeman, Michael DiMercurio, George Wallace and Don Keith.

Jack Boxer is on a deadly mission to retrieve sunken gold…

When brigands board his ketch in the South China Sea,
Admiral Jack Boxer finds himself prisoner on a volcanic island — his guard, a former German U-boat commander desperate to return to the Fatherland.

And the
Kapitän has a strange tale to tell from his war days — one of sunken treasure.

Escaping under fire in a rusting submarine, Boxer agrees to take the
Kapitän with him in return for the sea charts indicating the location of the gold.

In a joint U.S. and Soviet salvage operation, Boxer’s former nemesis
Igor Borodine is assigned to the mission.

But what the two men don’t know is that they are being shadowed by the ruthless brigands, who don’t want to share the gold with anyone.

In a fierce submarine battle beneath the waves, who will recover the gold?

And who is doomed to a watery grave…?

As a retired submariner, this series has been enjoyable. I was glad when Greenfield corrected his terminology errors - we never have say so & so target was 2-zero-zero-zero yards away or make your depth “3-zero-zero” feet. Instead we say “2-thousand” yards, away and we say “300” feet. Also, Naval officers do not salute indoors. This is something Army officers do. The mixture of submarine warfare, political struggles on both sides, as well as the “romantic” adventures made this series a quick, exciting and very enjoyable read.

Not anything like other submarine stories. Unrealistic and inconsistent scenarios, poorly written ("Boxer drank from the bottle then set his glass down." Did he drink from the bottle or the glass?). Side stories rushed through. Not a good read.

Toni Ann was engaged to Admiral Boxer in book 13, and disappeared like the author forget about the events of book 13. Of the 14 I’ve read, this one wasn’t worth the time to read. I found it boring. I found the plot unbelievable.

Had to go to sea again on another CIA mission to save the world, at least in the CIA perspective. Jack's mind figures out how to & all angles under water faster than any other submariner

What happened to the continuity of the story after Deep Rescue? And Boxer's relation with Toni-Ann? Torpedo Treasure did not seem to fit and I didn't understand the story. Disappointed in this sequence.

Almost boring and totally predictable. And in #13 Toni Ann was introduced as Boxer’s future wife. She never reappeared in #14.
