About the authors
Alison Ripley Cubitt started her writing career at age nine by winning first prize in a writing competition with a pony book.
Some years later, she left New Zealand with the ability to make a white sauce without a recipe, carry three plates at once, and ride a horse (though not at the same time). Dreaming of becoming a copywriter, she landed a job as the receptionist in an advertising agency in Sydney that made the TV series Mad Men’s work culture look tame.
But the lure of London proved too hard to resist, and she left Australia. Landing in London at the right time, she got her break in television production and lasted 15 years, working on Channel 4’s anarchic The Big Breakfast and at Walt Disney and the BBC.
For the past four years, she has divided her time between Melbourne, Australia and Jane Austen country, England.
An accomplished author of non-fiction works, including two travel guides and three memoirs, her literary achievements encompass works of fiction, from screenplays to short stories and thrillers.
Robert Fear has lived in Eastbourne, on the south coast of the UK for half his life. He moved there to be with Lynn, his future wife and is still there with her over thirty years later. As cat-lovers they have taken on several rescue cats over the years and are owned by three at the moment.
For his day job Robert works as a self-employed software consultant. In his spare time he writes, edits and self-publishes books, and organises annual creative writing showcases.
Robert’s interest in travel goes back to his twenties when he spent most of his time abroad. His experiences included; a summer in Ibiza, hitch-hiking around Europe and touring the USA & Canada. His most eventful trip was in 1981 when he travelled around Asia.
Born into a religious sect known as the Exclusive Brethren, his father John took the brave step of leaving it with his young family when Robert was nine years old. Robert never saw his grandparents again but is thankful for being able to grow up outside this restrictive group. His life has been full of adventures that he would never have experienced otherwise.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2018This compilation of international travel tales by Robert Fear is outstanding. I absolutely loved it! The stories capture the emotions--the excitement, fears, exhilaration, sometimes weariness, but mostly optimism--of travelers and expatriates tapping into foreign experiences. I felt like I was fording the rivers, climbing the mountains and exploring right along with the writers. I enjoyed the format--stories and highlights--made me yearn to travel again! A perfect book for those who long to know more about other cultures and lands without leaving the comfort of their own homes, too. Wonderful adventures await between the pages!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2018An excellent format to showcase the various travel experiences of the authors. The stories are unique, but resonate with a large variety of readers. Travel the world through the eyes and experiences of others. Whether you are an armchair traveller who simply enjoys travel adventures or are looking for new places to explore, you will enjoy these stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2018The writing in this book was pretty weak for the most part. The effort to be ironic when a story drifted off to nowhere was irritating and the amount of space devoted to the "authors" was ludicrous, especially because many travel stories were only a paragraph or two long. Glad it was free.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2018I like this book as I do like short stories on occasion. With a number of these, they are so good you might wish they were longer.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2018I enjoyed all of the stories! I plan to find books written by these author's for more good reading about travels!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2023My list of favorite authors is growing. Soon my Kindle will be packed with all the outstanding books I want to read. I look forward to reading the next book in this series, Travel Stories and Highlights: 2019 Edition. Check out Robert Fears’ edits of these amazing books.

A fascinating collection of stories and impressions from travel writers. A great way for new writers to introduce themselves to new audiences, and a great way for readers to discover new writing. A great collection for those who are interested in the world and in travel experience.
